So you can run the LG updater even with a custom recovery? Couldn't you just restore a 1.6.2 backup after getting to the vc baseband then flash 1.7 over that and have all your stuff?
I do not know, I just know a Nandroid for pre-TR so I used that since... Well it was the only Nandroid I made. lol.

This is a good idea. Can anyone confirm if the VC update * requires* going back to stock (stock room and recovery, unroot) or can the update be applied via the LG update tool as is?

I went back to stock cause it was the only Nandroid I had, so I had TR 1.7 and I couldn't apply the update. So, like I said if you have custom recovery working. If you apply the update via the LG update tool. Then it will be simple from there on out. Just do this...
TR 1.6.2 - LG update to VC (Make sure everything is up to date.) - TR 1.7 (Deluxe build prop, then if you would like.)

ALSO, I had bug me not used so I wasn't allowed to do the OTA update. That's why I couldn't just VC update then TR1.7 and call it a day.

If your talking about being able to turn the screen on with all the buttons instead of just the power button then yes it will be posted later today, I'm being lazy and don't feel like doing it right now.

It can be a pain I've had a lot of fun trying to test everything but i said screw and updated so i didn't have to worry about anything.

:D Thank you,This is true we did decide on this device that we were making this mainly for our personal preference. We don't mind making little things to add small tweaks or feature's but lego is the Rom to customise to your personal liking. Little things like keyboards, button mapping,or sprint apps no biggie they are very simple to make.Hope everyone enjoys the update.:p

I already am B, I can see the battery performance already kicking in.

If you guy's were girl's in your mid 20s and lived next door I'd kiss you. XD
bbuutt... your not girl's nor live next door. So... no.

ok so now we know the lg update tool works even with custom recovery, the only unknown now is how will 1.7 perform if it is flashed over a restored 1.6.2 on the vc baseband to prevent having to reload apps and layout your screens.

So, I HAVE to upgrade to the VC radio in order to use 1.7? Is there an easy way to do this as I rooted, recovery, and flashed without a computer.

Don't know if this helps anyone, but here are the steps I took.
The entire process took me about 1 hour on a freshly formatted IBM T40 relic of a laptop. This included downloading Andriod sdk, Java, TR, and the 10 other files you need to make it happen. So its really not bad.

My was phone running TR 1.6.2 and V9, I wanted the VC update so I:
1) Rolled back to stock V8, then updated to V9 link
2) Downloaded and installed LG moblie phone updater, Ran VC update link
3) Rooted link
4) Drellisdee's Custom Recovery link
5) TR 1.7

I dont have problems with the LG screen like some do, the battery life is also good. In the past 11 hours it dropped 22 % with light browsing and 11 short phone calls.

We don't know, we need to tester's...

One for a 1.6.7 to VC then TR1.7 for both to see if it will work fine, plus someone to do a wireless upgrade and see if it work's all the same.

Do any of the oc kernels work with 1.7? I've tried xionia 007 and 008 and they both stick me on the android splash for about ten minutes, then says that all of my space on my phone is gone. deletes half my apps and says there's only like 14 mb left. Has anyone else had success?

TR1.7 comes with stock kernal, I suggest you wait... as K n B was only making a Rom that could go off VC. I don't think they actually looked into custom kernal's for the VC update, just yet. Get the car rolling before you customize the engine? lol

Ok, so I'm running V9 with 1.6.2.

Do I DL the OTA from 6.2, then flash 1.7 from the BIOS? I'm just trying to get the steps right to keep things from bricking.

Thanks.

I guess for us non-devs and adb junkies we'll have to wait for an easy way to go V9 TR 1.6.2 to 1.7

I just can't go thru flashing back to V8->v9->VC->Tr and losing all my apps, settings and data....

If you have v9 TR1.6.2, then you can try this.... Make a Nandroid backup. Update to VC on phone (Uncomfirmed) or LG Updater Tool (Confirmed)

Which it will break your root, but if you flash to TR 1.7, you will have root back. Plus all the personal stuff.

1. nandroid backup
2. LG updater to download and isntall Sprint VC update.
3. Boot to recovery and flash TR1.7

If someone can verify I will give this a try.

These are my steps from TR 1.6.2.

Confirmed (By me)

1. Nandroid backup from before ThundeROM. (Stock everything, but custom recovery (BIOS))
2. Updated to VC via LG Updater Tool. (Still had custom recovery (BIOS))
3. Ran all updates to make sure phone is fully updated. (Unrooted)
4. Flashed TR 1.7 then TR Deluxe Buildprop (Which is unpacked after you flash 1.7)
5. Started up phone, rechecked for update's. (Was rooted again.)
6. Downloaded all my nooby stuff back.

These are unconfirmed, but may work just all the same... As 1.6.2 is on the same number's.

1. Make Nandroid backup
2. 1.6.2 - VC Update via Phone (Unrooted, Still custom recovery)
3. TR1.7 (Deluxe buildprop if desire)
4. Enjoy all your stuff and TR1.7

AND

1. Make Nandroid backup
2. 1.6.2 - VC Update via LG Updater Tool (Unrooted, Still custom recovery)
3. Flash TR1.7 (Deluxe buildprop if desire)
4. Enjoy all your stuff and TR1.7

Either way there is no custom kernal right now, as too TR1.7 just set to make it run off the VC update.
Also, if you have bugmenot.zip installed then I have no clue how to disable that just to beable to update to VC from 1.6.2
That's the only reason why I just went then Nandroid way, is because I didn't know how to disable bugmenot.

Again I do not think you have to lose everything, as its just you have to VC update from 1.6.2 which you will lose root, but keep custom recovery.... then you can flash to 1.7 which you will have root again.

issues with custom recovery and 1.7

I had a few strange issues with loading up the custom recovery (and 1.7 after restoring to stock, then updating to VC.

(I did this twice with the same issues each time)

I loaded the custom recovery, wiped the cache (just to be sure), flashed 1.7, then tried to reboot. The system got stuck in a custom recovery (recovery-RA-GNM-thunderc-s-1.1.0) boot loop. It would never boot to 1.7.

I backed out and restored to stock and went thru everything again. same thing.

I was able to restore the stock recovery, reboot into it. It complained that there was an issue with the cache, then after rebooting again, ThundeROM 1.7 launched just fine.

After 1.7 launching, I was able to adb shell into the phone, redo the custom recovery, and now it works fine.

Not sure if it was because I did two things at once (custom recovery and immediate flash), or it was because of some weird error with the wiped cache.

Not sure if this is a custom recovery issue or a ROM issue. Just thought I'd put this out there since I spent the last 4 hours or so trying to get it working.

I did this on my phone and it worked but my wife's is Havering a problem LG tool ?rashed and now the phone is stuck on the LG screen how do I fix this. I show say it is stuck on the LG download is in progress do not disconnect cable screen

Did it this way

If you have v9 TR1.6.2, then you can try this.... Make a Nandroid backup. Update to VC on phone (Uncomfirmed) or LG Updater Tool (Confirmed)

Which it will break your root, but if you flash to TR 1.7, you will have root back. Plus all the personal stuff.

I did the V9 1.6.2 to VC through LG update then flashed 1.7. All of my contacts were wiped as well as my Google and Facebook accounts. Since i always sync my contacts this was fine to re enter my google and go with it. Weird though, my other mail accounts are still in the phone and i didnt have to re-add them.
Most of my other settings are still in tact even the ringer i had. I did have to change the messaging notification as it wasnt going off when i got a text.

I do have root, but my phone is noticeably sluggish compared to 1.6.2. sliding between screens sometimes jerks even with animations off. My apps are all here, but to use Estrongs file explorer i had to uninstall and reinstall it. The screen showed one folder and i couldn't navigate up or into that folder at first.

The Winamp icon won't go away from the notification bar after the update when music is no longer playing.

I did have to add my widgets and icons back to my screens again.

Should i reflash? I don't want to wipe everything.

Recovery issue or more likely an issue with the way the process was done on your phone. ROM's don't touch the recovery partition.

See the unbrick thread. This thread should be focused around ThundeROM but there is a specific thread for people having issues where they cant get past the LG screen.

EDIT - On second read, your issue is unique. Create a thread. I'd like to see how simple or hard this gets :) (if i had to guess it's either really hosed or really easy to fix but doubt there is a middle ground)

Sluggish could be 2 reasons ... a) Your not OC'ed anymore although i'm not either and my phone flies like a mad man so highly unlikely B) Much more likely/probably due to your other issues you got something going on with your phone. ALways Always Always full wipe when in doubt ....

How about using "MyBackup Root" from the market? IMO, does a pretty good job of backing up all the apps and their data and restoring with one click. Then all you have to do is push the apps to your sd card.
