Discussion of the Fascinate root How-To

Why are you trying to root all the EB01 leaks have root preinstalled

Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk

Thanks DroidXcon. I apologize but I'm not too tech savvy. A friend loaded EB01 for me and it doesn't appear to be rooted. If possible I'd like to get root access back without having to reload all of my applications and settings again. Any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

well lets see if you actually dont have access anymore,,,download any terminal emulator from the market ,,,,open it,
if you see # , this means you are rooted
if you see $, then type su hit enter and it should either change to # or ask you for permission, if it does neither then you are not rooted

Thanks for the help. When opening terminal emulator I see

$ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH
$

Then I type su and hit enter and get

su: not found
$

Also forgot to mention that the terminal emulator I downloaded and installed is "Android Terminal Emulator" by Jack Palevich. Not sure if that makes a difference

Done. Is there a way for me to check and see if I did it correctly? :)

Download THIS
put it on your sd card

shut off your phone

hold vol up+down+power button, hold untill you see samsung flash twice then let go

use vol down to scroll to apply sdcard:update.zip

hit the home button

then in red recovery scroll down to install from sd card hit power button

then scroll to choose from sdcard hit power button

then scroll to su+busybox.zip (or somthing close to that) hit power button

hit the search button and then select reboot phone... then you should have root

ok so im at work and everyone is still here so my advice will be fragmented... for everyones future reference in this new thread i have added a trouble shooting section to some of the methods. if you look there things like the permission issue was address.

that stemmed from not gaining temporary root. rebooting your phone and starting the process over could have helped this.....ok so loss of USB. this has been a common issue covered in another thread found Here

In the mean time try this, with your phone in debbugging mode, while still plugged in, reboot your phone. this should give you a temporary solutions.

then try rooting again

in a situation like this i would go with ADB rooting vs One click.

This trick worked for me. I was banging my head trying to get the one click method to work and I kept losing the connection after the first reboot when it tried to establish temp root. I also thought I wasn't getting file transfer since after the command it would say something like 11kb/s [ 0 bytes in 5392 ms]. I went through the adb root method and got it to work after a minor hiccup. My phone locked up when I was ready to install Superuser so I did a battery pull and rebooted with the usb connected and it then installed fine. This was my first time rooting.

Thanks again to everyone who contributes here.

hello eagle welcome to android central. Why are you trying to unroot. maybe we can find an easier solution if we know what your ultimate goal is

virus in Fascinate Root_v02

when I unzipped this file I found Exploit.Linux.Lotoor.g quaranteened in my antivirus prog.

thats exactly what it is, you are breaching the phones security, thats how rooting works... you are exploiting a security hole to gain superuser access

Welcome to Android Central by the way.

its ok no worries i said the same thing when i first encountered it

Just rooted my phone for the first time using the adb method. Was easier then I thought it would be.

Now the hard part is gonna be getting some froyo'd voodoo roms onto my phone.

Now I have a couple of questions:

1. Will my SD card get formatted?
2. What will happen to my phone contacts and if they will disappear when I mess around with new ROMs, what should I use to back everything up? Is it titanium backup?
