Does it bother you that N5 doesn't have SD card slot?

SD cards are like floppy disk going the way of dinosaurs

Not quite, IMO. When phones with 128GB are VERY reasonably priced then I believe mSD cards will be like floppy disks but not until then. Especially with slickness like the Meenova out there.

LOL...I can store my entire media library (books, comics, movies, music) on something half the size of a postage stamp. If Dinosaurs were that good there'd be no humans right now.

I agree with that. The N5 has 32GB now and phones in a couple of years will have 128GB. Problem is our photos are getting bigger with more megapixels and things like HDR +.
All these new phones are recording in 1080p, and some in 4k. I have to wonder if people understand how much space these videos take up.

Until the cloud is reliable and fast (and cheap!) all the time, we need local storage.

Having owned both low and high end phones, I can tell you they are no different when it comes to connectivity. Not in my experience. My offline needs were exactly the same on both.

If anything it's the other way around. I am much more likely to consume local media on a high end device than a low end device.

Think of all the people migrating from dumb phones to <$100 smartphones. They may not have a premium data plan, or any data plan at all. But they still want maps (complete U.S. maps take a few GB), music, etc.

Which of them run vanilla android?

There is nothing comparable to the nexus in hardware or software that also has SD. Thats why I got a Nexus. It's not because I do not want SD.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 GPE runs vanilla Android and has a microSD card slot.

To answer the original question, no, it doesn't bother me that the Nexus 5 doesn't have a microSD card slot because I rarely use a microSD card. However, I do like choices and would prefer it if the Nexus 5 had a microSD card slot.

Slower CPU. No soft-buttons. Camera is worse IMO. You still rely on Samsung for updates (where is KitKat?).

This should NOT be taken to mean I don't like that phone. I think both GPE phones are awesome. I love the GPE program. But...it is not as good as the nexus 5 IMO.

I got the 16 GB model and feel that's plenty for my use. I'm very minimal in what I need to keep stored on the device. For me, photos/video taken with the device tends to clutter my storage. Most everything else can be stored online unless I need to carry a copy around for offline use.

As long as I keep photos and video organized I'll be ok with the amount of storage I opted to purchase.

So you don't plan ok taking a lot of video huh?

...and keeping it on the device until the end of time? Perhaps not.

It doesn't have to be on the device. It can be on the SD card. Thats the point of SD. It's portable. It can also be upgraded.

I do not need my media to be hogging the space I am using for my apps.

Which is why 16GB internal may be enough for some.

I've owned a Nexus phone since the Nexus One, I think SD cards are a pain, they get corrupt and if you don't have a class 10 card and store A lot of pictures on it then you better be prepared for the nice thumbnail lag when you open up your photo gallery. All my music is stored on Google Music (no I don't care about them owning my stuff)

Ive never had a corrupt card and they have always worked fine. The one problem i have w/ Google Music is the volume isnt as good as it is when i use Power Amp and Power Amp sounds much much better than using the GM player. I much prefer to have my music on my micro SD card..

16GB + SD would be enough for all.
Na, not for me really. 64+16 leaves some to be desired from my perspective. I have many more times music and movies that I like to carry around. 256GB would do me well with adequate room to grow. A media ho I am.

I think most can at least agree that both 16 and 32 GB should be standard options for every device on every carrier.

i like phones with SD card slot, now im thinking of buying N5, but whats keeping me back is NO CARD SLOT..

i can get 32GB version, but im not sure if 32GB will be enough for the apps today with few 1080p movies, HD games are like 1GB+, so if have like 5 of them, its going to take a lot of space.

so, which version did u guys get, 16GB or 32GB... and how to conserve space?

Don't have a Nexus. Can't imagine buying a phone with no SD card slot. So, if you go that route, get the biggest you can get. But my 50gb of MP3s won't fit on either ;) (and no, streaming is not always a good solution.)

Actually i wouldnt mind a 48GB option. It doesnt have to go from 32GB to 64GB but it always does.
