Does it bother you that N5 doesn't have SD card slot?

I wish they'd make phones with at least a terabyte of storage.

I have the Nexus 4 16gb now. My Nexus 5 32gb is on order.

I use my Nexus 7 for most of my media, also 32gb. I haven't had a problem, but 16 is a little tight.

I figure the Nexus 7 is better for most of my media because, well, it's got a bigger screen and battery. I only keep my must haves (what if I am stranded somewhere without my Nexus 7 for a while) on my phone.

I know the Nexus 7 can support OTG USB drive transfer (with third party apps), so you always have that as a backup. I think you can also get that to work on a nexus 5 without rooting...

So long and short, I'm not worried about it and haven't had any issues with having less storage currently.. And I came from a galaxy s3 (16gb) with a 64gb card. Not a big deal, just had to change my approach. And I am so much happier with the Nexus experience. Things work the way they are supposed to, unlike my s3 after a year with little updates from att and Samsung.

So you don't plan ok taking a lot of video huh?
Actually I do. I have three kids, so I'm almost always shooting video. My previous issue has always been not moving the video/image files from the device to my home computer or online storage. Something I've been doing pretty well at since I got the Nexus 5.

That, and once auto-backup is complete and the video is stored safely in G+/Drive, why keep any but your favorites on the device itself? I've found you can take over a hundred photos, shoot some video, etc at whatever event and by the time you're home it's all already waiting on G+, already auto-enhanced, auto-awesome's are created and you're ready to rock and roll.

Maybe this is tangentially on topic... Would anyone know if the protective plastic that comes on phones in the packaging interferes with NFC file transfers between phones? Tia...

I'd prefer it if they had SDs. It wouldn't be such an issue if 16GB WAS 16GB but it's not. In these parts the N5 is not available at Google Play prices and given that you can get a 32 GB LTE S4 for the same price as a 16GB Nexus 5, one of the big reasons to choose the N5 for many people, price, takes a serious nose-dive!!

Just being a better device isn't enough of a reason? SD card trumps all the quality delta?

Now, "Better" is in the eye of beholders, and availability of SD slot is one of those criteria many people use to make that judgement.

I agree with both statements, but have a hard time putting that one metric on par with almost any metric, let alone equal to all others combined. At least to most people, I do understand that some people do want or need it to be weighted that heavily, but obviously one device not having it just takes one device off of the short list.

.

The SD card is central to how I use my device. Without the space, I won't be as happy. SD cards have other advantages as well, although those are not as important: for instance, they can just be flipped from device to device without reloading and re-setting things up every time I upgrade. I like that flexibility. It makes backing up easy, too.

So, to me it is a deal breaker. To answer your question...does its lack trump EVERYTHING else?
I'd compromise some quality to get an SD card slot. Where I would draw the line of "how much compromise"--I have no idea until I could see what we're talking about. Taken to its extreme, that's a hypothetical that's hard to answer, because it's not like there is a shortage at the moment of high quality devices with SD card slots. If my only choices were "mediocre" or "awful" with SD, versus "amazing with no SD," that would be a hard choice that created a serious dilemma. But that's definitely not this market.

Reality for me is that the market is configured so that I can easily make lack of an SD card slot a deal breaker without suffering even a little, let alone a lot. The devices that have SD card slots are so good that I might prefer them on their own merits. I love Samsung, for instance. So, if that's the universe I'm limited to, I can afford to make SD card slots a line in the sand without much worry.

Even after all this great debating back and forth the fact still remains the Nexus line never has and according to Google never will come with an SD card option.

Personally my opinion I think 32gb should be the minimum standard today with 64gb+ as options.

Yep. I tend to forget about the Nexus One.

Moving forward I can't seem them bringing it back. Google has been very firm on not including the option in the Nexus line.

If they ever did, great for those who would want it.
