Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

What about if you reactivate GV on the website rather than through installing GV app? Then instal the GV app after you've got GV set up the way you like through google.com/voice

I will try that this next run... I'm actually trying a fresh 3rd time flash to see if I notice anything different during virgin setup. I'm going to just leave Voice off of the Gapps install on bootup and will back my way into it like you suggest.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and help out, reltm, I very much appreciate it. I've lurked and learned quite a bit here, I feel bad that my first post has to be a hair-on-fire "help me!" plea. ;)

Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

OK, I have pinpointed the "problem"... it's not CM7, and it's not the Google Voice app. I was not aware of this, but back in May, Google Voice and Sprint rolled out some new integration:
Google Voice Blog: Google Voice and Sprint integration is live

Seeing as how I have not set one of these up in about four months, I had no idea they did this. I apologize for raising a false alarm here, I was sure something was off.

For the way I've used GV in the past, I don't like this. I regularly use both my Sprint # and my GV#, and it appears that with the current setup, that will no longer be allowed. It would be enough to keep me from flashing a new ROM on my own Evo, so as not to be forced into giving up my dual #s, but the GV blog says the changes will be rolled out to everyone gradually (though it hasn't affected any of my family's phones yet.) This sucks--if I want to continue making calls from both #s, I'm going to have to either (a) get a second phone, or (b) manually go through the mobile site, since the app will eventually force me to choose one # or the other. Damn.

But back on topic, CM7 on Optimus S looks great, and feels snappier right off the bat. Eager to see how it performs over time.

I use both numbers on my phone. It gives me the option. I originally set it up like you where it wouldn't give me the option. I have been meaning to writeup a tutorial on how to use both numbers separately since sprint and Google did the update but haven't got around to it. :( The simple fix is to login to Google voice from your computer, goto settings, "unsync" the phone from Google voice. THEN, uninstall the app from your phone then reinstall. THEN, install the app and on the very first screen that pops up you need to scroll to the bottom and tap on skip. This will allow you to make the choice between the two numbers when dialing. You will also have the option to text from the two numbers separately (if you have that setup). ;) and good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

I feel accomplished. I typed this on my phone using the default browser.

I haven't faced the predicament you have, but I think you should be able to keep GV forwarding to your Sprint number exactly as you had in the past. I was a GV-Sprint integration beta tester, and my understanding is this is only meant to add an *option* to existing GV and Sprint users. Nothing is being forced on anyone.

In the web interface, just make sure that you don't select to enable integration with your sprint account. As long as you keep the integration option disabled, you should be able to preserve your GV number and your Sprint numbers as separate numbers with all your old settings.

Good luck figuring this out! Most of my posts have been requests for help - so you're definitely not the only one. :-)

Yeah, there it is--I completely missed it on install. Thank you, basketthis!

I can now confirm that basketthis was right, and I absolutely cannot believe I missed it three times.:-[ Sure enough, scroll down at the beginning of the Voice install, and there's a skip button. I've now got the phone set up as it was before, with GV voicemail while maintaining the ability to use both phone numbers.

Now have the battery stats wiped, everything set up and tweaked, and eager to see how this phone does with CM7. :)

I just installed the stable version and I think it's great. Very fast and very stable so far. Is there a way to make a shortcut for wifi teathering on the homescreen?

I don't know about a homescreen shortcut but you can add the button to the notification dropdown.

You can use the drop-down method from the notification bar that Drew mentioned (very elegant - love those power notification bar settings!), or you can also create a custom power control widget on the homescreen:

1. Tap and hold blank spot on homescreen
2. Select widgets
3. Select power control
4. Check "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" (and uncheck everything else)
5. Set to create a 1 column x 1 row widget

This will create a hotspot-only control widget. You can create as many as you like with different configurations and different sizes.

You report bugs on this thread! The cm updater should be in your list of apps! And why would you want to switch from smartass to another governor anyway? Lol!

sent from my Cyanogen Optimus

The cm updater is not im my apps list i am running the lastest stable build. and the smartass distrubs pandora when the screen is off as mentioned earlier in the forum.

Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

OK, one more question. My voicemails are not going through to Google Voice and instead, callers are getting a message asking them to enter the number they wish to call followed by the pound key. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Google Voice to no avail. Not it can't verify my phone number after the "create a pin" screen. Any ideas?

Re: Drew's CM7 builds (stable: 08/09/2011 | experimental: 08/08/2

Need some help with the install of this ROM. Downloaded the "stable" zip 3 times and all three times I got "Install aborted". I am able to install ALL other ROMS just fine.

This is what "ens04" told me to do when I had a problem. Hope it helps.

Go to Menu -> Setting -> Calls -> Voicemail service now change it from Sprint to Google Voice
also under Menu -> Setting -> Calls -> Voicemail settings -> Voicemail Number. A message will pop up click the link that the message provides you (It is a phone number). After you dial that number google voice will hang up on you within 2 seconds. That should do it and now google voice is set up on your phone.

Also go to Google.com/voice and go to the settings button on the top right corner (looks like a steering wheel) and click on "voice settings" and then it should say something about enable or disable sprint (or something like that) you should see it, it will have the Sprint logo, and make sure you disable it.

Also you may need to uninstall the Google voice application and then re-install it and start over. But when you start over, when the application first opens up on the first or second page, scroll down and click on the "skip" button.

I've noticed that too, but not 100% sure if it's from the theme I'm using or a stock issue.

I'm running the stock cyanbread theme. Well to make it clearer, the rotary/rotary reamped are the ones blocking the photos & info. The regular android slider thing is fine. Small price to pay i suppose :)
