Droid Bionic coming in September

what are the chances the final design from the FCC of the droid bionic will be sporting a fingerprint scanner? it sounds like something that would not take much time to add to the design of the bionic unless the parts for the sensor cost to much to produce. coming from an ATRIX user i cannot live without it. and AT&T is really starting to grow on me. and tegra 2 chip-set is not really that versatile for app development. plus YouTube has been freezing my phone up. i know Verizon's plans is more expensive but i would really like to get service up in the mountains and oceanic routs of northern California where AT&T just does not work. i was thinking of getting my mom and me on a 2 person family plan while my dad stays on Walmart straight talk. yeah my dad is a sucker for the $30 a month 1000 minuets and 1000 texts plan on Walmart. but my mom really want to peruse a business license so she wants a touch screen smartphone when the time comes.

point is i want this phone but i feel i got trapped on my grandma's family plan with AT&T. heaven only knows how much longer till i can ditch her plan and start a new Verizon plan with my mom. sorry im not trying to troll on AT&T but i really am liking what this phone has turned into since CES of this year. and i know Motorola is doing the right thing by holding this phone back. the more time this phone is in developement the more solid the end user experience will become. the same cannot be said for the ATRIX. it was probably rushed because it has so many glitches

Serious doubt it it require a whole new body and way more testing which would put the release somtime in Jan or Feb

Yeah I mean look they couldnt even get the current one out until sept(supposedly) if they added that they would have to go back and test for another month or so and then if it has any issues go back again and they already know they are losing money the longer the phone goes without being able to be purchased and the new phones constantly coming out.

The 1st thread that I read about the photon kinda dumbfounded me. People are having issues not receiving calls and having to reboot several times. One person talk to level 2 support and said there was some known audio problem that would be fixed mid august.

I just hope the bionic doesn't fail when its released. I just dont see how that happens that certain phone have so many issues. Don't people test the phones?

My friend - one of the thousands of vp's at big red said they were told 9/1 or 9/15.

I hope so, too.

But, although, it seems any phone can have a bug or 2 at release, I think Verizon does a better job than the other carriers at releasing phones that actually work. I think that is why we often get the good phones last. Verizon does extensive testing even after the manufacturer completes there testing, Furthermore, Verizon requires that most problems be fixed prior to release. That is not to say that problems can't slip by, but Verizon really tries to put phones in their customers hands that work.

I feel ya on this, but I have seen verizon and/or the manufacturer drop a turd here and there. Tbolt is the last one I can think of.

I feel good about motorola on the hardware side of it. This phone better be gold after all the wait.

Yep, I'm jumping off the Bionic bandwagon! By the time it comes out, I will be looking at the HTC Vigor, SGSII, Prime, or ??? At this rate, it won't even be the first dual core LTE phone! Oh well, looks like I "suffer on" with my DInc 2 a while longer....

According to who?

why is it that there are not actual "advertisements" for the droid bionic? it is not on motorola.com or on verizonwireless.com. you would think that launch date is sept 2011 that you would see something being that it is now aug 2011.

It would be kind of embarrassing. AT&T has had the Atrix for months and Sprint is selling the Photon. Why would Verizon advertise they are the last to release a competing phone?

He said "At this rate, it won't even be the first dual core LTE phone". He wasn't quoting anyone. And with the way things are going, I'm tending to believe that as well. Actually, I'm hoping that is true and the GSII has LTE and comes out this month. ;)

I'll say this again. What makes anyone think the GS2 will come this month, let alone, with LTE? We have seen ZERO leaks of the Verizon version of the device nor have we seen it pass through the FCC. I say it's highly unlikely you see it this month.

While I agree, there's really been next to nothing as far as rumors/leaks on the GSII. It seems to be sown up tighter than the Bionic. However, the Samsung CEO did say August. And there's hope that it will. There's still time for it to release in August. It's only August 1.

I couldn't agree more. If its going to be released this month several things will to happen very shortly:

- Cases and accessories start to show up
- FCC certification with VZW CDMA/LTE radio bands.
- Phone showing up in the Celu-Brite <sp> machines in VZW
- Cosco/Best Buy leaked inventory screen shots with place holders
- Leaked advertisements/flyers
- Leaked slides from training
- Blurry cam shots of VZW branded GS2

So far we have had none [ZERO] of this happening. I highly doubt this phone will be released this month.

In spite of all the times we've had our chains yanked on by Motorola regarding the Bionic, I'm thankful they're doing this.

The Motorola of the past would have pushed out a half-baked buggy pile of junk that overheated twice a day on us. Nowadays, they're holding out until they can deliver a quality experience with the device.

Waiting for a phone really sucks, and I was going just as nuts over the Bionic as any of you. But few things stink worse than hyping yourself up for a garbage end result.

You make a great point, and in some ways, I agree with you. But this also means that the engineers working on this phone aren't good enough or aren't working fast enough to put a quality handset out there in a respectable amount of time.

I used to work for Motorola supporting their Engineering Dept. None of their project teams worked together. When one team encountered a problem, you would think they asked another team for assistance - nope. Sure, they tried working overtime to solve the problem and make their target dates, but that only lasted a short while. Deadlines were missed, excuses were given and eventually, devices were scrapped.

I'm glad they didn't scrap the Bionic (though they might have come pretty close to doing so!) But what does this experience tell us of the company? And God for-freaking-bid the Bionic has a Pentile screen!! That's when I'll go completely nuts!! Waiting all this time for a crappy screen!?! That won't jive well with most customers. :(

According to the CEO's remarks, Moto decided to develope the radio chip themselves for Patent purposes...that certainly takes time, and, HOPEFULLY, will make a better experience using the phone.

Buzzkill!

Not all of that has to happen (for instance, if it's a Verizon exclusive for a while, you probably wouldn't see any inventory screens, advertisements/flyers, etc.). And the FCC certification can happen within a short timeframe. But, while it doesn't look promising for an August release, I do have hope (until Sept. 1).

Motorola has waited far too long to release this phone. It will not be able to compete with the iPhone 4S/5 and it will get absolutely demolished by the SGSII if it launches with LTE. If they were to release it within the next few weeks, it seems like they would be in a much more competitive place, but that's not going to happen.

If the SGSII comes out with LTE within a month of the Bionic's release, I will definitely pick Samsung over Motorola. Blur is an abomination and there has only been one bootloader unlock thus far (the Atrix unlock probably wouldn't have been released without the leak). Samsung has actively supported the development community and I want to support them because of that.

I will only purchase the Bionic if the SGSII launches on Verizon without LTE.

I'm sure Moto/Verizon will be happy to hear you might buy it..;) I agree if SGSII lanches with LTE, that would offer some real competition, however, how can you say it won't be able to compete with the new iPhone? Other than a better screen, w/o LTE and a smaller screen, the Bionic wins IMHO. The people that buy the iPhone, would have bought it anyway, no mater what the other phones have to offer.

Wow, the new Blur is an abomination, yet, somehow, TouchWiz is not?? It's amazing how much hate is thrown at Blur vs. the other custom skins out there. Sense is almost universally praised and I actually prefer what I have seen of the latest Blur to it. Samsung somehow has managed to get praise for the latest version of TouchWiz after getting beaten up on the earlier versions almost as badly as Motorola did for Blur.

I have seen a lot of the reviewers of the Droid 3, grudgingly, say that the new Blur isn't all that bad, but I think most of them are afraid to say they like it because of the huge negative reaction it seems to incur from the masses of people that visit these forums/blogs.
