Start on? Oh **** no. They've been working on 4.2.x upgrades for over a month or so at this point. I know this isn't what people want to hear, myself most definitely included, but, to me not much has changed with Moto as far as updates go. They really aren't good at it. I mean, just really BAD at doing updates. That's not to say it's 100% their fault, but, I figured with Google at the helm some stuff would change. Not so much. JB played out exactly as the ICS fiasco did. 4.2.x isn't looking all that great so far. The RAZR HD, RAZR, and D4 4.1 builds aren't awesome. We're hoping ours is, but, no guarantees. I want Moto to change and succeed. So far, I'm seeing it get neglected from the mothership. And that doesn't impress me one bit. It's certainly not motivating me into wanting to buy another phone from them...

I don't think any 4.2 builds will be ready this month but I could be wrong. It's been a few weeks since I could see the state of the builds. But it wasn't good when I last looked. All the OMAP4 phones are DONE. Not gonna get 4.2. 4.1.2 is it.

If the next Moto phone isn't officially announced by late summer, and/or my Bionic is failing to perform as needed with JB I'll probably be looking at the Galaxy S4 as its replacement. I certainly hope the next Moto flagship phone will be up to the task, as I love their durability and how they have offered longer battery life (in some cases). I also hear that Samsung phones sometimes lack the robust radios that their competitors possess.

Yea. I'm not impressed. If it's going to be run like this, honestly, just shut it down and stop making phones. Take the patents, cozy up more to Samsung, and sell a billion phones. Otherwise, do more than install a Google employee as the CEO and fix the damn company. We'll see what I/O brings. I'll have a much better feel for their likely success after that.

So if I have deleted some system apps, do I have to do a full fxz to receive the update? Can I just install from the SD card in recovery?

Not unless you enjoy error 7 and a failed update. Yes, you need to restore the apps.

I think the consensuses is no MFG does a good job if they are on Verizon's network.

No. They all suck. I put a lot of the blame on Google. They could do a lot to make things better. But then I blame the MFG's with their stupid skins for part of it, as well. And of course the rest of the blame goes to the carriers for delaying the updates when they actually do manage to create one. Samsung is better than Moto, but, isn't "good" by any means. Nexus is where it's at. VZW will never have another nexus phone. Ever. (God I hope I can eat those words some day but not unless VZW changes big time). Unlockable phones. Then screw MFG's and carriers.

Which sucks, because no one seems to come close to VzW in coverage and network reliability. Having used iOS up to the release of the Bionic, I like Android way more.

That is what I thought, with each mfg and provider going their own way the Nexus is the only answer. But the providers don't like the idea, especially VZW.

Blur's presence is being lessened in each new update. This is a good thing IMO. But VZW hates it. What I'd REALLY love to see is the stupid "Droid" partnership to end. That'd give Moto some control back.

I've been putting a lot of serious thought on getting off VZW. I've been looking at Sprint because they have a solid 4G network here (Wichita). What's this groups thoughts on Sprint network wise?

We don't have any real info about the so called X phone. This is why I'm waiting for I/O. Hopefully Google lays out what the strategy is going forward. The current one sucks. "Here's new hardware. It'll run some OS. It'll sell on mobile carriers" is not going to cut it for me.
