DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

Different partitions. The hardware is close enough where it'd work but the security and the partitions they chose for each phone wouldn't allow it. I'm told that the D4 is close enough where it works. But you don't want that build. Trust me. :)

Are you saying the Razr Build is buggy?

I also want to point something out. I posted a link to a story that suggested that the Moto apps were removed in the RAZR JB build and replaced with Google apps. This story is WRONG. I don't know where they got their "change list" from but it's total nonsense. I was tipped off earlier by a RAZR user and so I pulled their update zip and looked at it. All the apps they claim are "replaced" are still there. So uh, no.

That info came straight from Motorola - https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/93191

as of this post, it says -

Changes

Removed Applications: Social Location, MOTOACTV, MOTOPRINT, Alarm and Timer (replaced by Google Clock), Verizon Video on Demand

Removed Widgets: My Gallery, My MOTOCAST, My Music, Picture Slideshow, Social Location, Sticky Note, Weather & World Clock

MOTOCAST? 2.0: MOTOCAST is no longer integrated into MyMusic, Files, and Gallery, and is a stand alone app on the device. It has been enhanced with an easy to understand interface, faster speeds, higher performance and ability to support large content libraries. Will need to re-log into the app using your MOTOCAST ID to continue remote access.

My Gallery: The My Gallery app has been removed and replaced with a standard Google Gallery app for viewing photos and videos.

My Music: The My Music app has been removed and replaced with Google Play Music app. Specific setup information can be found in the Android PLAY store.

Before anyone asks about the URL, moto.ly/upgrade (as mentioned on Motorola's official blogpost about the update, points you to motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/country-selector/software-upgrade

Yea, someone else gave me the link. I don't get why all the apk's are still in the update if they're being "pulled' and "replaced". Something doesn't make a lot of sense to me about all this. But since I don't own a RAZR I can't verify it for myself.

Hi SamuriHL - I've been following for quite a while. I am a Bionic ICS user. Just wanted to thank you and give you props for the updates. Very much appreciated.

That's why I nominated him. And you all clinched it for him.

Could they just be disabled?

It's possible, but, why include them at all if you're not going to use them? I really don't know what to make of it. I saw the reports earlier but then was told that they're nonsense by someone who has a RAZR. Other RAZR users are now telling me that it's not nonsense and also sent the link from Moto as additional proof. So I don't know what Moto did on this one.

Really, after all that work they are releasing it buggy? That's frustrating. I wouldn't care, except both my wife and mother in law have the RAZR, and guess who's their technical support guy...

I'm not sure why anyone expected anything different. The RAZR ICS build went out buggy. The Xmas accidental push was buggy. And it doesn't look like much was fixed since then. I can tell you it failed a lot of tests during the automated test suite. Yet VZW still accepted it and pushed it anyway. I don't get why there's such a disparity between the RAZR which gets ANYTHING pushed even if it doesn't work vs the Bionic which could have an almost flawless build and still be rejected. Thank VZW for that.

Over in the RAZR MAXX forum, users that have the update are saying those apps and widgets are gone.

Side note:
In my Supply Chain Management I keep hearing about "Six Sigma," and how it was created to improve quality to keep problems out of the system. Funny thing is that it was created by Motorola, and they pioneered the push back in the 80's. Funny how a company can change so much and lose its identity. Hopefully Google can turn this ship around. I know they are probably fighting tooth and nail right now to do just that.

Six Sigma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oh, and VZW accepted it because the RAZR was their baby, where the Bionic their neglected problem. So, they just keep rejecting us. But hey, the silver lining is that we get something completely baked, compared to only half done.

I know far too much about six sigma. I've written software that generates it. I'd prefer not to relive that. :D

Yes, VZW's decision was political...although the fact that people were locked on the accidentally pushed JB since December incentivised the push to get it out faster. With Bionic, they'd prefer the phone just drop off the face of the planet. Tomorrow is technical EOL for it. Happy 18 months, Bionic...

Really? Wow, it seems like just yesterday I was tearing towards my local Verizon store at 10 AM to get a hold of this phone because I was afraid they would sell out... I think I'm going to go buy myself a cake. Probably with jelly beans on it too. Maybe the Jelly Bean Gods will look down upon us and smile. :)

9/8/11. Can you believe it's been that long? And so far the JB gods aren't smiling. More like pissing on us and calling it rain. LOL

I was so amazed at the jump from the OG Droid to the Bionic. The Bionic still does everything I want it to do, while then my OG Droid was on it's last leg. It makes me wonder if I'll have the same jump of being amazed with my next phone. Here's hoping the Xphone comes out by the middle of this year, that it is mind blowing, and that I can be happy again for another 18 months.

I came from Photon 4G.. Missed jb..

So if I miss the jb this time, this will be my last Motorola... Motorola addicted but will prefer micromax... :p

Good enough then.

lol. Now there's at least one person saying they still have those Motorola apps after updating.
