DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

Bricking. LOL. You do know I wrote the House of Bionic, right? LMAO :D If you get stuck, don't panic. Absolutely go for root, install safestrap, backup your phone, and have at it with the roms. Ain't no reason not to. And if you blow that thing up, HoB will restore you to factory 246 defaults. :)

I can never get my varied devices to check for updates while on wifi. How do you get it to check via wifi and not on cellular?

Just works for me. Didn't do anything special.

Fair enough, but I am a firm believer in "Murphy's Law."

Do you think my inability to check for updates could be because i have the eclipse rom installed in rom slot 2? Maybe i need to delete that installation also?

Lol, you and me both. I've had to punch him in the nose enough times, so what's one more, right? I'm on the fence, but still thinking about it just to prevent JB from installing until I know it's a good build.

What's that strange tick tock sound I'm hearing?

I'm not sure what happened to my reply. It went to a post in the past. Um, anyway, I asked....you're not seriously trying to do an update check from a rom........right???

No. I have stock in slot 1 and eclipse in rom slot 2. I am checking when booted on the stock rom and thought it may be an issue just having a rom installed in slot 2 even though it is not booted.

Something doesn't sound right with that. Stock isn't a slot afaik.

Try it on wifi when you get a chance and see if it makes any difference. Something's definitely not right...especially if a factory reset didn't fix it. sigh.

Yeah sorry. I guess its just the stock slot and eclipse rom in rom slot 1.

Ok. Just making sure. It's possible safestrap is screwing up the update check. I don't know much about SS.

I'll only take the update once someone confirms there's a working root exploit for it.

Sam, Will you be posting (here or elsewhere) when you have that (root exploit) info so we can follow your lead?

Yea. And if it requires a bounty I'll also let you all know. Meaning, we may have to put up some cash to get a working exploit if we want one. Or, we may get lucky, and one of the other Moto JB exploits might work. Until we get our build, we have no idea.

I suppose rooting my Bionic was worth it just to use the excellent Titanium Backup. I've seen on various forums it's the best one available for Android. Been using MyBackup+ in the past. Really the only thing I miss about iOS was its full synchronization with iTunes for backup purposes.

Great. My connection between charger and micro USB is beginning to falter.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

99.9 times out of 100 it's the cable. I hate the idea because USB cables are so weak, but I have found some advertised as "heavy duty" that I'm looking into. 6 ft for around US$18. May be worth it, but the ones I normally get are standard cables for less than $2 for 6 ft and I can get 3-6 months use out of them. That's about the same as the regular store bought ones I've tried, if not longer.

I always go with monoprice for all my cables. I haven't had any problems with them and they are super cheap.
