DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

I've never heard a great answer to this question. Most the time it seems just the easy response to say: "I hate Blur, TW, Sense." Personally I like skins because it gives each manufacturer their own identity within Android.

I don't mind "skins" either. I want a Motorola phone to be a Motorola phone, just like I want a Samsung phone to be a Samsung phone... just like I want a Google phone to be a Google phone.

Plus, as an open source OS, all of these customizations and forks are a big part of the "spirit" of Android.

If Android wasn't meant to be customized, Android wouldn't be open. Also, some of the customizations done by the OEMs get picked up by AOSP as well. The software "innovation" going on within the Android ecosystem isn't just happening within AOSP.

I'm so excited. I wanted to post this animated gif, but it was next to impossible to do on my Droid Bionic with ICS. Here's to hoping Jelly Bean fixes some of the sluggishness plus makes a better user experience!

Also, I didn't get to be part of the soak. So what kind of NDA do you agree to when being a part of one. Can they really track you if you post anonymously on a forum?

We are never getting 4.2.2 so I don't understand the question. As for FXZ, yes, we'll get one, but, if we don't have a working root exploit, that could be ugly. First time you use it, you'll lose root and without an exploit for JB, you can't get it back. So be cognizant of that.

My version of this question: does the 4.1.x bionic may get use a kernel that we can then flash 4.2.x ROMs without the usual cam, BT, and other hardware issues?

Customizations, YES, and my favorite one would be a special options page where I can pick and choose which parts of said skins I like to use . . . along the lines of being able to remove (not just 'disable') bloatware ^~^

This is EXACTLY what worked on my wives Bionic. The update notification popped up literally seconds after I unchecked that box and good thing the battery was all charged up, as it went from .897 (I think it was) to.902, then .905 one right after another, whew.

Sure hope this does it for you!

Impossible to know.

Not unless you enjoy error 7 and a failed update. :) Yes, you need to restore the apps.
I've run into issues on a couple of OTA updates with apps that were merely frozen. I guess I'll go through both of the household Bionics this weekend to pull everything back out of the nooks and crannies where it's all stashed now: unhiding what I can via ICS' native capability, then unfreezing the remainder via Titanium Backup.

I also just refreshed my su backup in Voodoo OTA RootKeeper. Once this weekend's unfreezing task is complete, I guess we'll be as ready as we can be for the JB OTA.

I'm probably going to use the House of Bionic and blast mine to full factory settings + root when the update comes and I decide to actually install it.

Anybody have any updates on the soak? Has it started yet, or does anyone have an idea when?

Just curious. Thank you.

Okay. Thank you. There's light at the end of this tunnel. :)

Is everyone lining up for the Facebook phone? Yikes. I'd rather revert back to a flip phone.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

Well, I figured anytime after this weekend is game. Definitely not before...

I'll be surprised if it's this week. End of next week is possible I suppose. The soak emails for RAZR and D4 went out and it was almost 2 weeks before the soak started. Given this is the last one maybe they just wanna toss it out the door and be done with the OMAP4 phones forever. Who knows.
