DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update

In all honestly, does it really make a difference? I get that, in theory, the soak gives them a chance to only screw up a comparatively small percentage of users' phones if something goes wrong...but how often has something gone wrong?

I won't be getting the OTA update, anyway, so I guess I don't have anything to worry about :p

It doesn't matter. I've said this before. The soak test makes people feel "elite" by "getting accepted" but it really doesn't have any bearing on reality.

Sorry for the drama caused by the sig. Dr Strangelove is probably the single best comedy of all time. If you haven't see it: you must. If you have, then you understand the need reflect upon General Ripper.

Fortunately I was able to interpret these feelings correctly: loss of essence.

I really wasn't trying to create drama just a question as I didn't understand why you posted it each time. It makes sense now with the taptalk thing. I trip over it every time. Hopefully I'll eventually get it. :)

Yes, except the one time it would appear they "need" a good soak test (since they're going back to a "failed" build, albeit hopefully removing the cause of the failure), this all seems so illogical imho (and from one who has been responsible for software builds in the corporate enterprise)

Why do you think I'm holding off? :)

Right...I'd like to hold as well...see this forum to read results...if I'm on stock build...never rooted, can I prevent automatic download?

You'll need root to avoid the OTA update. Technically, you can probably decline a couple of times, but eventually, it'll get on there whether you like it or not :p

EDIT: Hah, I suppose you could just disable all data (mobile and WiFi) until the time that you want to get it.

Well I'm ready I changed the build prop to 247 so I don't get the update until I see what is going on with it. I also installed voodoo so I'm all set I'll down load the build and keep it when I'm ready to install.

Howard I do believe you can decline the build or the installation but it's playing roulette if it downloads and installs when your not looking. Why not just download the HoB and root it's really simple.

I believe we are going to get lollipop in the name of jellybean... seems like Motorola & Verizon are completing formalities in the name update...

So at the time of next big update this device got outdated and can be abandoned easily. ... :banghead:

Now a build which was failed earlier is going to be gifted...

I wonder, where are Motorola's standards now...???

I'm fairly certain we can thank VZW for the build. Sam's made it pretty clear that were the decisions up to the manufacture (Motorola, HTC, Samsung, etc), it would be a different situation. But VZW is the one calling the shots.

Everyone is a soak tester! Everyone wins! Yay!!!....or.. It goes badly and everyone loses... Then booo... Lol

Well, even though I'm in Technology, I still get nervous about rooting without that experience, particularly since this phone is not just for fun but very important for my day-to-day. If I screw it up, worried I can't get support to reset. Can someone send me the HoB link? I'll need to read the instructions and then consider...thanks

Yea, and I wonder if they would replace the potentially "bricked" Bionics caused by the update with other Bionics or force us to upgrade to something we don't want or can't afford?

Sam,

Is it possible that the root method Dan just released for the RAZR HD running 4.1.2 will work once we get updated to JB, or is that only for non-OMAP phones? I realize the bootloader unlock will not work, but wasn't sure if that was also true with root..

Thank you.

What moonlightinwhite said. I'm not sure disabling data is the way to go but you know. :D I just looked and updater is not an app you can disable through the app settings page. So yea, you'd need root.

This. Moto had NO intention of pushing 22 out the door. However, some whacked stuff went on with this so we will see it without ISIS and it may be better than I thought. Can't explain but we need to let the testers (my HoB volunteers) work over this build with their spare Bionics and see what can and can't be done with it and how good it really is. Patience will be a virtue.

Check my signature. *READ EVERYTHING* before doing please. I get very grouchy when I have to answer questions that I took the time to answer in the HoB OP and/or FAQ. The general idea is very simple in your case...I personally for posterity's sake would do an FXZ Keep Data to clean things up and return your system partition to full stock. (Won't touch your apps....don't panic. :) Your data partition will remain). Once that's done there's an option in the utility menu to root. Make sure to get the latest Moto drivers installed and follow all directions. If you run into problems, read to see if it's answered, and hit me up either here, the HoB discussion thread, or in a PM and I'll fix you up. If you JUST want to root and nothing more, use razr's edge (search for it or PM me and I'll send you my private link to it).

Not via OTA. The update is designed to update ONE specific version which is 246. 247 doesn't exist.
