Droid Bionic Not Released Before Tiered Data Plans!

The Bionic is getting majorly shafted. Those who purchase it will either be low-data users who are cool with tiered or 4-g locked in geeks paying full price after selling their Thunderbolt/Charge/Revolution on craigslist.

If Moto launched prior to the 7711 funeral, they would have sold a ton of Bionics. Not so moving forward. Shame, really. 4g has changed forever with LTE caps...

Not like moto cares. They have bigger fish to fry: the photon. ;)

That's one way of interpreting a repost on a blog of something some woman at VZW supposedly told someone after he learned of some leaked data that has yet to be officially confirmed. It also goes against what others have said, and even so, I haven't heard anything saying that you'll be able to upgrade at 2-year pricing and keep unlimited, just that you may be able to buy something full retail and run it on an existing unlimited 3g plan. Even that isn't confirmed though, and I certainly wouldn't count on what she said.

Again, if you want to make sure you get locked into unlimited LTE for the forseeable future, your best bet is to grab a Charge now (or T-Bolt or Rev if you hate battery life :p). A few things here and there seem to suggest that you may have other options, but its not likely and the majority of what we've heard suggests that you will only be grandfathered with your current plan. They may allow you to upgrade at 2-year pricing and keep unlimited, to get people to re-sign, but most likely you'll just have to go full retail. Even if they do allow it, which is unlikely, I don't expect you'd be able to switch from 3g to 4g.

None of this info has actually been confirmed, which means the plans may not yet be completely finalized, or possibly this info is incorrect (though not likely). Still, it may be correct at this time when it leaked, but may change before it becomes "official". We here in the Bionic forum are certainly no strangers to that. So if you wait you may find out there's a way to keep waiting, but we haven't heard anything reliable to suggest that's the case, and it honestly wouldn't make much sense if they truly are as committed to this tiered thing as they claim. So wait if you want to, but the safe call at this point would be to grab an LTE phone and unlimited data with your upgrade while you still can.

Does this apply to customers who have a unlimited everything plan that don't have a smartphone? I have unlimited data, and messaging and my contract ends in august. Am I better off waiting until the bionic or should I try to force Verizon to give me a early upgrade (which they've already told me I'm eligible for) and grab the charge and wait for the bionic just to lock in unlimited data?

You can either have unlimited 3G or 4G, but in your case, you have unlimited 3G. If you were to upgrade to a Charge, you would have unlimited 4G, but would have to buy the Bionic at full retail price. If you were to keep unlimited 3G, you could use your upgrade for the Bionic, but would have to sign under the new tiered prices.

Remember, there has been no full confirmation on this, but from what has been leaked so far, it fits in well.

Still not convinced that there will be a distinction between 3G and 4G when upgrading, and thus the requirement to move to tiered pricing. While Verizon may distinguish between them in their system, I don't think they do in the overall plan pricing or contracts. I just think it's an administrative thing at this point and an indication that an LTE SIM must be configured. Particularly since most areas do not have 4G/LTE service, including where I live, but I can still buy a 4G/LTE phone.

Apparently I should have been more clear about my conversation with the rep. I have a Storm and specifically asked them about having a 3G phone and upgrading after the switch date and getting a 4G phone. The lady specifically told me that there is no difference and I would keep unlimited data no matter which phone I have or upgrade to. To lose my unlimited data I would basically have to tell them to drop it from my plan.

Now maybe the rep was misinformed, I fully plan on going to a store on Wednesday and asking all of my same questions again to see if any answers are different after they have had more time to train and learn about the plans. I will post my answers then to help clear up anything that might still be confusing. I can say though that while this rep wasn't confident about everything, she was confident when she answered my question about 3G phones and keeping unlimited data if I upgrade to 4G after July 7th.

I'm not convinced either, but I'm keeping a close eye on this since I become eligible for an upgrade on July 6th. When I log into my account at vzw.com and click the link for "My Plan", in the Additional Features section, 3G Device and Unlimited Data are separate features. When I click the link for Unlimited Data, no where does it specify that it is 3G Data, so I would expect that when I get a LTE phone only the 3G Device section of my additional features would change.

My feelings exactly. I'll be pretty shocked if testt is right. I have a feeling he'll be eating crow though. Time will tell...

You're just wrong.

The Verizon employees are already being trained with the Droid Bionic down in the new mexico calling center. EXPECT RELEASE: July 28th :)

And in case your wondering, I got word from my neighbor who works at verizon co headquarters. So mark July 28th down on your calenders for a most likely Droid Bionic release!

Thats what people have been saying but we shall see in a few weeks. If not you are going to have a lot of angry people flaming you(not me but others will) They get mad when you say a date and it doesnt happen. I thought training was 2-3 weeks before release? That is over a month for training?

I don't mind, I'm just relaying what my neighbors heard around the office. But I have no clue how long training is, maybe they won't be training the whole month before. They also have to get the phones shipped to all the stores as well so we'll see if the 28th holds true!

If it is indeed the 28th we will start hearing things in a few weeks because it always seems things get leaked and when phones are sent out to the wearhouses. Lets hope for preorders like a week ahead that would be great.

For what it's worth, I talked briefly to one of the VZW reps to the place I work at, and she seemed to indicate that I could NOT wait until after tiered pricing hit then get grandfathered in to unlimited 4G. However, all federal phones are going to continue to have unlimited 3G/4G.

Since she's a business rep I'm not sure if she has the real story though. We have discounted rates on personal phones, and I'm going to call the person who handles those to see what they have to say for themselves.

This whole deal actually had me thinking of switching to Sprint, but they won't get any money from me until they cancel their deal with LightSquared (whole other rant, lets just say it horribly horribly breaks GPS, and don't listen to anything they say about "mitigating" or "meets the needs of 99.5% of GPS users"...

Seeing how leaked documents said u would be grandfathered. I think the rep was just clueless

Anyone heard of PopHerald? Anyway, here's another tidbit for the rumor mill...

Motorola Droid Bionic May Just Beat VZW Unlimited Data Plan Deadline

Yes, I have ranted several times about them GizmoCrunch and several other Garbage pusher websites. They are as reliable (or probably less) as having a penguin pick the Superbowl winner. They "create" their own rumors and drop the appropriate hot topic name in their story as many different ways as they can to get hits to their website.

So No, do not believe anything that you read on their website. I guarantee you that they know less than you do.

What about octopuses picking the World Cup winner?

I got the google alert showing the PoopHerald article. They have a "inside scoop" of what kitty litter, they put ZERO substance in their so called article its simply a traffic grab for clicks.

Ok so I don't know where to post this, I've looked. Anywayz since getting to know you all through this forum, and trusting you all in this one, decided to ask you all. I have a family plan 1400 min and we got that deal that only lasts for a year on unlimited data for $10 a piece (we get $20 credit for each our two phones) well apparantly that ends Jan. of 2012. So for 1400 min, unlimited text, and unlimited data we pay 140.00 plus taxes of course. Well when our plan expires it'll go up $40 bucks. I was wondering if there are and apps that can replace our texting that can do pics, video, and regular texts so we can drop the unlimited texting and come out close to what we pay now. Just don't want overages, and it to be a pain in the arse for friends to text us. Any suggestions?
I need to do this before tiered so to get my husband unlimited data and not screw mine up.
Thanks ahead o time.

P.S. we don't use a lot of texting but we might now that we have android! Yay
