[EI22][GINGERBREAD] Gingerbread " Bug Thread "

Since update there is a blue tint that grows from the edge when you reach the end of the scrolling limit, happens in any screen that scrolls, very annoying.
Its called Overscroll Glow. Its part of GB not a bug... On custom ROMs we can change the color of the overscroll glow.

Regarding the GPS issues. I know in the past when I had my epic rooted and also when going back to stock I would have similar issues if I didn't make sure I had a GPS lock before flashing anything to the phone. So basically, before applying the update.zip, it might help to make sure you have a GPS lock in advance and make sure you are in an area that gets GPS signal when you apply it just to be safe.

I forgot about doing this when I manually upgraded my Epic to gingerbread yesterday from the office (no GPS signal at all) and I was having some serious GPS issues - it would work for a few minutes, lose signal, and never recover without a reset.

Only fix for me after that is a hard reset. :/

Yes I used to do the same... Especially back in the early day of Eclair I would get a GPS lock then update to Froyo, GPS lock, then root and install custom ROM, GPS lock... Always worked good..

This is a real bug for me. When listening to mp3's the sound cuts on and of repeatedly, very quickly almost makes it sound like it's skipping. It doesn't matter what music player I use, it does the same thing. Kind of like wiggling a headphone connector in a bad port. But it's not, because it does the same thing with my bluetooth head phones as well on speaker phone. It doesn't do it all the time but at least once or twice every 3 or 4 songs.

I updated yesterday manually and so far everything is great EXCEPT for this annoying pop up that comes up when I use the pop up key board:

"Sorry! The application TTS Service Extended (process com.goggle.tts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

It is very annoying. I am not sure if it is an update bug or if it is a setting that I need to reconfigure after the update.
Does anyone have an answer.
Much appreciated.

This is just a bug from you updating...

Go to Settings/Apps/Manage Apps/
Look for your Text to Speech application in the list and click on it. Then clear data/cache.

That should resolve the problem.

A couple of comment from my experience and skimming through here (didn't read everything, sorry).

GPS seems to have some issues for me. It can be slow to get a lock, even with some assistance from an app to clear and download data, and when it does, it's sometimes with less than 3-4 satellites. I think it always needed 3+ before. Not sure if there's a simple fix (unrooted, at least), but since I don't use location services much, I can probably deal with this, at least for now.

I have no silent option on my camera, which is definitely annoying, even more so when it makes a sound even though the phone is silenced. I thought that renaming the shutter sound files would work, and it probably will if you're rooted -- I can't rename the files on the stock ROM unrooted. If there's some other option that will work unrooted, please let me know. (OTOH, it looks like they put back a geotagging switch with the "GPS tag" option, which is good.)

As for moving apps to the SD card, yeah, calling it USB storage is kind of dumb, and I also noticed that it often took two taps to work, with the first one failing. However, it seemed to me that it only did that with apps I had previously installed to SD. If I installed an app I hadn't before, it took one tap to move. So my guess is that they changed something about how/where apps move to SD, the first click that fails for existing apps on the SD card does something to fix it so that the second click works, while apps that aren't on the SD card work right the first time. *shrug* This is an annoyance, but looks like it'll happen only once per app already on the SD, so it should basically go away eventually, I think.

Just a few things for now. I'll probably check back for other issues and hopefully fixes for them. I'd prefer things I can do unrooted, but since Gingerbread's probably the last official OS update the Epic will get, I'm more inclined to root now to get what I need. BTW as an aside, pointers for good, easy-to-follow, beginner root/ROM guides would be appreciated; I'm generally not bad with technical stuff, but have never rooted my phone before. Thanks.

The text "zoom" function in the browser is more pixelated than usual. On a related note, when I first open the browser, the stock gingerbread URL bad shows, and then its replaced by the touchwiz one.
EDIT: I had some issues with rotation lag, and calibrating with the phone face down didn't help. However, calibrating face up fixed the issue. I'm guessing Samsung has compensated for the camera bulge in calibration.

My led notification light in front now is even more random flashing when I get a text message and no longer flashes when I get a new email in K9. Facebook notifications the led stays on for 3 seconds then randomly
flashes. Weird

Only thing I have noticed in regards to the gps is that it isn't as close. I use runkeeper quite a bit so I use the gps capabilities to track my runs and on EC05 I was accurate to a distance of 2m usually, and with EI22 I can't get closer than 20m and it sometimes just doesn't lock on.

I'm having the same issue with the GPS after the GB manual update. Do I understand right, that I have to do a hard reset? Will this result in the phone still having GB, but without any of my apps? If so, do all my apps have to be re-installed manually? (I think I've got about 60 installed, if the 'My Library' on Android Market is accurate.)

Is there anywhere someone can point to that explains how to reset the phone and then re-install apps? Sorry for the basic questions - manually updating to GB is the most advanced thing I've done with the phone, so far...

My phone is locking up more, usually when their is a notification and I go to use the unlock pattern wipe, the screen is unresponsive.

I've pulled the battery more in the past few days than I've had to pull in the past 6 months.

I was rooted on Froyo, Odin'd back to stock, did the manual upgrade and then rooted again and restored apps via Titanium backup.

I'm willing to bet when you restored your apps via Titanium you did both the app & data correct?

Mostlikely your problems lie in doing the restore with Titanium. At the most I would of recommended doing a data only restore after manually redownloading your apps. I know its a lot of work in some cases but your talking about going from two completely different OS's... Froyo to GB.. Its not like updating from stock Froyo to rooted Froyo/custom ROM...

You may want to consider the option of a full factory wipe, possibly with Odin and redoing the GB update...

Yes, that's correct. It was the first time I did any restores and chose the wrong option.

That's probably what I'll end up doing. Going to set aside some time tomorrow. Another thing I learned is not to do a batch restore. I had a lot of apps moved to SD card and while Titanium was doing the batch restore, it was restoring them to the phone, so I ran out of room. I also had some strange crashing issues with Amazon MP3 player that got fixed by restoring it and had another issues with a google error that I found was caused by a strange duplicate entry in my calendar. Each time I would try to sync calendar, I got an error message. Finally got that all sorted out.

One good thing is I learned a lot about this whole process so I'm now brave enough to try some customer ROM's as they become available.

No problem... Many have learned the hard way up restores.. Back up apps are great but I have always advised on data only in most cases...

If you do choose to do a app restore I would then recommend doing your app first. Reboot after wards and play around for a little bit and make sure there is no conflicts going on. Then you can go back and restore data to those apps..

Anyhow take your time and I'm sure your second time around through this will turn out better :)

In the Camera Settings, do you see a 1/2, 2/2 and arrows to scroll up and down? Shutter Sound, Reset, and Firmare Check should be on 2/2
