EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users

Also - I'm still trying to find a way to get all my Google/Gmail contacts out of my EVO 3D. It auto-synced them initially and even though the contact sync is unchecked in the Account settings they are all still there.

This is especially annoying because my Google contacts are exactly the same as my Exchange ones - when I initially got Google Voice I exported all my Exchange Contacts to Gmail for dialing/ID purposes. So I basically have duplicates of 99% of my contacts...

sadly after seeing the leak road map I will be done with WebOS soon this week. I hate to do it but Android's road map is looking better and better by the day. I will see you all soon on the Android front this week!

I've had the E3D for 10 days, after having a Pre for 2 years. I'm extremely/totally happy with this phone. webOS is the best IMO, but the ecosystem (for lack of a better word) is a pathetic joke by today's standards. Personally I'll give webOS a couple of years before I'd consider it again. :)

Just waiting for Sprint to ship me and my wife our new phones. I think the reason the Android roadmap looks so much better is COMPETITION. Multiple hardware makers. Yes this fragments the OS a little bit, but from what I can tell it is WORKING!

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I wanted to point out that my reception is MUCH better with my Evo 3D than the palm pre. I can make and receive phone calls in my office at work, where the pre wasn't able to get a signal. I also hold a call in my building's elevator. I have reception issues, but at least the phone holds on to the call and doesn't drop it immediately like the pre used to do.

I too, am enjoying my 3D much more than the Pre - even as much as I like WebOS, it was going absolutely no where. My speeds are better (abit not quite advertise) reception is better and sound is better. Plus, I like all the apps!! As nice as PreWare was, it does not hold a candle to the Android Apps.

Overall, I am glad I switched. If HP/Palm decides to join the smartphone game with real Apps, then I will look at them again and see what they have.

So glad I made the switch over to the Evo3D. I liked my launch day Pre for the first year or so I had it, and still really liked the OS, but the lack of apps, upgrades, etc. are going to kill it for HP. I'm still getting the hang of Android, as it's not quite as user friendly as WebOS... but really not by much.

The only thing I don't like about the "tweaking" stuff is, unless I'm missing something, in order to change something on the Android, you have to DL a whole separate app for whatever, like with my issue with incoming texts not lighting the screen up when coming in. Instead of maybe DLing a patch to apply, I had to go and download an entire new messaging app. Seems excessive, but again, maybe not all things that someone would want to tweak have that "problem".

About 200 of our webOS patches are built in options in Android so no download is needed.

webOS requires you to root the phone into developer mode to patch. Android apps do not require root. On webOS or Android, at least 95% of users will never root their phones. Fewer than 5% of webOS users will ever use a patch. 100% of Android users can download an app.

With either a patch or app, you download something that did not come standard on the phone. The difference is whether it is available to everyone or the nerdiest 5%. And patches may not work with a future update.

Later today I'm picking up the Evo 3D, my first Android phone. I've been a die-hard webOS user since the Pre was first released. I've also been a webOS developer for 2 years. Those of you who used to (or still do) visit the PreCentral forums may know some of my apps: Music Player (Remix), GeoStrings, and Quick Post.

NahtyaBoi from Twitter directed me over to this thread. I was very happy to see a thread like this to make the transition from webOS to Android easier. I remember milominderbinder was always very helpful in creating guides over on PreCentral, so it doesn't surprise me that he's still doing the same thing here on AndroidCentral.

I look forward to jumping into this community and learning about the Evo 3D and everything else Android related. I'm still going to be involved in the webOS community (still love the OS), but with my new tech toy coming soon, I think I'm going to be spending a lot of time here too.

Plus I've started to develop Android apps. My first one is a port of Quick Post, which happens to be the #1 rated social networking paid app in the webOS catalog! You can read more about it here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/android-applications/87739-coming-soon-quick-post-twitter-facebook-posting.html

Dan!

The one app I miss more than any other on my EVO is Music Player (Remix)!

I still use it on my Pre. Nothing else comes close to offering the lyrics and simplicity like you do.

As you know you can freely start with the Google music app and customize it. Add in the hooks to the new Google cloud music service and you have something amazing. The API's are open! You have voice search and each integration into Search. Wow. Just imagining where you might take us...

Good to see you here, Dan, and I'll echo the comments of others who lauded Music Player Remix. Definitely my most used app on my Pre and Pre 2. I'm having good luck with BeyondPod on Android, but that's because most of what I listen to is podcasts these days. I haven't explored music players much.

This is a good thread to post to here for webOS users, but I'm wondering if this (seemingly large) bunch of folks need some kind of organized group. Yahoo? Google? Facebook? Twitter?

All I can say is Hello Android! I have had a Palm Phone since the Treo 600. I can say I am done with Palm and HP. What a failure they have been. Always hoping and waiting for the next best thing they could put out and then nothing. Such a shame for what could have been. Nothing describes failure like Palm and HP. I really enjoyed WebOS it was wonderful.

After using my HTC EVO 3D I can say it is very nice! I am enjoying it and if anyone is on the fence about trying it I say go for it. The EVO 3D quality is much better than the Pre.

I can honestly say I am not missing much. The screen size, quality and use flash player have made it a much better experience. I have only one program I need that is unavailable at this time which I am sure will eventually come to Android. I am glad I have switched and the EVO 3D is Awesome!!!!

Last thought HP/Palm, Thanks for dropping the ball.

My wife and I got our EVO 3Ds yesterday (after over 2 years on launch-day pre-). So far there are many little things we miss, but this forum is making things easier.

EDIT: As to the charger, that's ridiculous, both the Pre and evo 3D chargers put out 5volts and 1amp... Not sure what happened to your phone, but it wasn't the charger.

Exactly... Should be no problem using the Pre charger with the 3D.
