Is this considered a major OS update? Or is it just a patch?
Ok, its just weird that its only .1. I know with palm those updates were pretty small. This is the big one. Well, it's still with in the same version number (2.1 to 2.2). It is Froyo (2.2) and some HTC updates all in one. Most of the updates are behind the scenes (speed, flash, etc.).
Gingerbread, due out later this year (Early next year on non-nexus ones), should be the Major change to a new version number (3.0). Google hired a UI expert from Palm and it is anticipated that stock Android in 3.0 will be filled with UI and behind the scenes goodness.

Could the update for OTA manual checking be tied to ESN #'s in order of activation? Those that got the phone on launch day might get a chance for the update a bit sooner than those just getting their phones. Or, the possibility of sending out the update to batches of ESNs?
Just throwing some ideas out there.
1) Put zip on SD card.
2) Power off phone.
3) Hold power button and volume up button at the same time.
4) Flash the zip.
Now about not closing the thread earlier![]()
I got the zip file, but what the heck do I do with it? I guess HTC has it posted on their site?
Other stupid question for us newbies, when putting the file on the SD card, can it be done by mounting the phone as a disk drive, or does the SD need to be removed to properly load it on there?
Nah, just copy it over how ever you want. Actually you can download it directly from your browser if you want.
