Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

I predict that all you who have hacked and rooted constantly will whine that stuff broke when the release comes, delaying Froyo for the rest of us.

Is this considered a major OS update? Or is it just a patch?

This is the big one. Well, it's still with in the same version number (2.1 to 2.2). It is Froyo (2.2) and some HTC updates all in one. Most of the updates are behind the scenes (speed, flash, etc.).

Gingerbread, due out later this year (Early next year on non-nexus ones), should be the Major change to a new version number (3.0). Google hired a UI expert from Palm and it is anticipated that stock Android in 3.0 will be filled with UI and behind the scenes goodness.

Ok, its just weird that its only .1. I know with palm those updates were pretty small.

With the Moto Droid also getting 2.2 next week, I'm hoping that Sprint will "release the hounds" earlier than Tuesday. I don't think they want big Red and Moto to beat them by giving the Droid 2.2 on Monday.

Re: Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd

From Unrevoked twitter:

Warning: this Froyo OTA for EVO will wipe out your ENG hboot as well.

Sent from my HTC EVO using Tapatalk

Could the update for OTA manual checking be tied to ESN #'s in order of activation? Those that got the phone on launch day might get a chance for the update a bit sooner than those just getting their phones. Or, the possibility of sending out the update to batches of ESNs?

Just throwing some ideas out there.

If that is the case I hope so.... I got mine on June 4th and was 2nd in line at my local best buy to get activated (which I am sure still put me pretty far back on that line)

I am sure they sent it out to a few "SELECT" people to test. Probably Sprint Employees and if there were any glitches or problems they would find out... We'll see I guess..... I did get teased in a way when at around 12:40 today I tried to do the HTC update and it told me I needed to be on WiFi to do preform this action so I switched over to my WiFi for it to tell me I am up to date..... DARN IT!!!!

Not sure exactly what to do with this either, got it from unrevoked's twitter, not from HTC directly.

1) Put zip on SD card.
2) Power off phone.
3) Hold power button and volume up button at the same time.
4) Flash the zip.

Now about not closing the thread earlier ;)

I got the zip file, but what the heck do I do with it? I guess HTC has it posted on their site?

First off you probably have to make sure it is indeed the correct file that HTC/Sprint is going to release for the phone (Hate to end up with a Bricked phone) and then like with most programs you probably have to install it to your SD card and then run it and see what happens........ Who's willing to try it???

Other stupid question for us newbies, when putting the file on the SD card, can it be done by mounting the phone as a disk drive, or does the SD need to be removed to properly load it on there?

Nah, just copy it over how ever you want. Actually you can download it directly from your browser if you want.

OKay... it brought up his dos looking screen with things like Bootloader and all that jazz... which one do I pick? :P I'm such a nub. :P
