Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

For those "newbies"

You can put it on your phone any way you want.. through the browser, through a micro sd to usb adapter from the computer, or from a usb connection via phone.

Leave it as a ZIP file.

Make sure its in the ROOT FOLDER If it shows up as f:/ on your computer then it should be in F:/
Dont put it in any other folders like DCIM or Camera etc..

Power phone off, Hold VOLUME KEY while phone is off, then power the phone on while holding volume key.

Then youll get a menu to update. Tap power to continue, let it work its course and the phone will reboot.

MAKE SURE THE PHONE IS NOT IN A POSITION FOR THE BATTERY TO DIE.. I suggest having it plugged into the wall with OVER 50% battery before even attempting. It may take up to 5-10 mins to install.

Good luck!

At the first bootloader, your options are:

Bootloader
Reboot
Reboot Bootloader
Power Down

Where to after this?

lol.. I love the "GOOD LUCK" at the end.... Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when attempting to screw around with my phone for the very first time.. Thanks.... :p

My battery is only at 20% remaining so I am going to let it charge up first... I have the zip file on the phone so now it's just a matter of powering her off and back on and then see what happens..... Any one else run it yet????

Hrmn... I did that and hitting power immediately brings up "Bootloader".

I hit Fastboot on the next screen and it says a bunch of stuff about the image file not being there. The file name is still intact and I have it in the root directory.

Bookmarking this thread. This should be fun to watch. :)

I put the zip in the root, but it doesn't give me the option to update on the bootload screen. Just the normal options.

And it said no image found after scanning for one.

i have the file coppied to the root of my SD card but when i hit fastboot and then bootloader, a few things come up saying wrong image...

Robbie: No, I do not have the EVO anymore. Just posted instructions for how I did it with my other phones.

Based on what I'm seeing posted above, it sounds different than what I've seen in the past. I thought you would see an option that says "fastboot" that then gives you an option for "recovery". From there you would normally select the zip.

Bootloader might do the same thing, but I'm not positive. I'll get Jerry involved in this thread. He'll know lol.

Re: Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd

Hey, I'm a prince in Nigeria, and if you send me $1000... :)

And PS - don't do this with a phone that has 20% battery.

PS PS - if you guys downloaded this directly from the web onto your SD card, use Astro to verify the file extension says .zip.

Also, there is no folder called "root". When we say put it in the root folder we mean just put it at the top, not inside some other folder on the card.

Well... I've gone through the "install process". Now I am waiting for the reboot, currently all I see is a phone with the reload and down arrow.

Edit: It went through the Sprint logo, and now stuck on the 4G screen for about 30 seconds.

It took me to my home screen, and woot I am on Froyo!

When I hit fastboot and then recovery, it brings up a black screen with a pic of a phone with a red exclamation mark. Then you have to do a hard reboot.

Mind telling us exactly how you did it?
