Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

I've certainly learned quite a bit about this phone tonight. Definitely a lot of help. Thanks Cory & the gang who have chimed in.

yep those options don't work. keeps saying a specific zip file is not found? do we have to rename it to that? I tried every option in the bootloader menu and nothing worked.

Mind telling us exactly how you did it?

Pretty much followed the instructions everyone here posted (power + UP volume buttons), as for renaming of the file, I just copied it over 4 times, and renamed it the PC36IMG.zip, PC36IMG, update.zip, update. I kept seeing people ask for which one was right, so I just put one of each. I couldn't tell you which one it loaded though.

And PS - don't do this with a phone that has 20% battery.

PS PS - if you guys downloaded this directly from the web onto your SD card, use Astro to verify the file extension says .zip.

Also, there is no folder called "root". When we say put it in the root folder we mean just put it at the top, not inside some other folder on the card.

Oh I wasn't about to even attempt it with 19% battery remaining... She is on the charger right now and I figure I will just wait for it to get back up to 100% before I try it.... No rush at all.....

Just go to recovery, click on load zip from SD card, select the ZIP, then select it in the next screen. it wshould take about 15 minutes to load. i am running on it right now.

I clicked on recovery and it gave me the red ! on screen. I didn't get any option to change that when I got there.

I'm going to try making the filename shorter so that I can (hopefully) find it in the recovery portion of the phone.

Hmm. For me it was the last file on the phone, starts with OTA. I was running rooted before this though.

What do you think.. 1 story or two story house from the bricks people will make with this update?

Here are the instuctions Jerry gave me, which pretty much mirrors what I told you to do earlier

Put the DL'd file on root of SD card
reboot into recovery (volume down + power)
select install update from SD card
