Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

There we go! It'll say that it can't find something and then bring up the console. One of the selections is to load "update" or something or rather. That is loading something up... hopefully I did this right.

1) Put zip on SD card.
2) Power off phone.
3) Hold power button and volume up button at the same time.
4) Flash the zip.

Now about not closing the thread earlier ;)

Cory, I love your ability to be "to the point", but not everyone is as adept and for some it's the first time they've done any updating on Android. For starters, I don't even know how to get something to the SD card....... so I'm kind of stuck at #1.

I loved this forum because it wasn't as CRACKBERRY-esque, but it's quickly becoming it....... "Hey idiot, if you don't know what you're doing, don't come here and waste our time asking." That's the general impression all of us who are new to Android get, at least.....the impression I get.

Incidentally, I have the update. But I have no idea what to do with it.

Mine just finished the update process and is rebooting. Hopefully I'll have it up on Froyo here shortly.

that worked. changing the zip to update.zip and then going into recovery mode. currently updating the software now.

After much avail...let me break it down.

1. Load ROM onto main directory of SD Card
2. Rename file to update.zip
3. Turn off phone by holding Power
4. Hold volume up + Power until bootloader screen comes up
5. Select bootloader
6. Select recovery
7. At red exclamation screen, hold volume up + power again for a few seconds until blue text comes up
8. Select update from SD card

Is this the official ROM or is this an unrevoked rom? Sorry if that's a stupid question.. :\

Steps that seem to be working so far:

1. Copy file to SD card and rename to update.zip
2. Shutdown Phone
3. Hold Down Power and Volume Down button.
4. Wait for screen to to load up and it to do it's searching for file thing.
5. Select Recovery.
6. Once you get to picture of phone with red exclamation mark hold Volume Up and then press Power.
7. Select Update from update.zip
8. Once update is complete, and it tells you to, select reboot.
9. Wait for the reboot to complete. Phone will cycle and show the phone with a green arrow pointing down to it. Let it do it's thing and install. Once the phone is up, it will take you to a htc screen that will have a percentage loader as it finishes up the install.

Update worked for me. YMMV.

EDIT: Alright EVO_girl, I will update my original instructions.

Here's my best attempt at a walkthrough:

-Download update and place in main folder (root) of phone
-Power off
-Hold volume up button, then press and hold power button until boot screen appears
-Select "Bootloader" from first menu
-Select "Recovery" from second menu
-You will see a screen with a phone and a red exclamation mark, hold volume up and -power until you see blue text
-Select "update.zip" and it will start to load
-Once complete, select "reboot" and allow it to reboot and finish loading the updates.

1) Put zip on SD card. You can do this by connecting your phone to your computer through USB and then hitting the Charge function and changing it to Disk Drive. Then load the zip onto the main directory of your SD card. I renamed by file to "PCIMG36.zip" but I also had a copy of the file as "update.zip" as well, so I don't know which one is the right one.
2) Power off phone.
3) Hold Power button and Volume Up button at the same time.
4) Click Power, then Power again for Fastboot. It'll load stuff.
5) Scroll down (using the Volume Down) key to Recover. It'll bring up a picture of a phone with a red triangle and an exclaimation point. Hold down Volume Up and hit the Power button. Hit the "Update" option.

Just got my update completed. I could be wrong, but am I still rooted? I didn't have to reload any data it anything. My overclock says it is working.

So I'm sitting here with a red exclamation point and no idea what to do...I don't know how to do a hard power down (Is that a battery pull)?

Halp!

I got this one by going through recovery as well.

Well, it was different for me on a rooted install. I just repooted while holding vol. down, selected recovery from the hboot menu and then selected load zip from SD card. Did not realize it was different for some installs.
