Evo 4G update to Froyo OFFICIAL August 3rd (OLD)

I got the same thing...... I renamed the file update.zip and put on the SD card and when I went to run it it tells me it can't find update.zip.... plugged the phone back up to the computer and it's there update.zip... removed and reinstalled but it's still telling me it can't find that file and aborts installation????

Not sure if this has been asked or not, but are you sure you did not rename the file to update.zip.zip?

If this has been addressed I apologize.

HTC's Latest Tweet 2 minutes ago... :\

htc

Please be aware any update.zip floating around for EVO are not final and may cause problems. Official updates are coming OTA next week!

Well isn't this fun...... I can't get it to install any way.. Even though I am looking at update.zip on the SD card when I try and install it tells me it can't find it.

I wouldn't doubt the zip file we have isn't the full final version and that is why Sprint originally said we would be able to manually install it today and then pushed it back to what is probably August 1.....

What to do? what to do?

Update:

Success. Froyo installed! Only thing to add to my previous instructions are to select reboot on the menu when it tells you to and then let it do it's thing.

mikemsd, why don't you go update your original instructions :)

Answer to a few questions on here. Yes it looks like the 30 FPS cap is still in effect. If anyone notices differently, then please correct me. Also, updating will not cause you to lose anything. It came back up with everything I had, plus the new apps the update added.

I am looking at it and at the bottom of my screen when looking in the SD card on the phone (from my computer) it says update.zip the date modified and date created and the compressed (Zipped) Folder and size 84.4

It may be because we named it "update.zip" which means it is "update.zip.zip"...I will let you guys know.

Still getting

Verifying update package...
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I'm using RA-evo-v1.7.0.1 from the 76 (not 79) HBOOT and it won't work.

No matter what I name it to, no matter what I try.

Grrr.

^^^^ Uh oh! :D

Again, it goes without saying... these forums are by far the source for what you need to do to get the most from your android device, and how to do it.

Ha Garry, I beat you to it!!!!

In windows 7 on the top left of your window click organize

select folder and search options

select view tab in the middle

un check hide known extensions

then take a look at the file again.

Luce hit the nail on the head for me. Instead of renaming the file "update.zip" i simply renamed it "update" and I'm currently installing now.

GUYS, if you are renaming it .zip make sure it's not .zip.zip...meaning if you don't have extensions showing (like .doc) just name it update.

Hmm out of curiosity.. try this..

On your SD card window, click Tools, then Folder Options.

Then click View.
Uncheck the box that says Hide File extensions for known type.
Click OK
Then recheck the name of the update file. If it says update.zip I am of no use.

If it says update.zip.zip then rename it again and proceed with updating your phone.
