This past Wednesday 12/22 I wanted to get my wife the RadioShack EVO deal
(so I could finally have someone to video chat with (had EVO since 7:00am launch day)) but wanted to charge it to our Sprint account so I called Sprint and asked them to match the price. They couldn't match the price exactly but offered to give me a free month of service which equates to a $129.99 credit for us!! She noted the account that the credit would be on my next bill which happened to come out the next day on the 23rd. So I went right to the local Sprint store, they asked which color she wanted, (she chose black), and we got her a Jelly/Skin case (purple) and she was all set. We also traded in her BB Tour, a Samsung Rant and a Samsung Exclaim for a total of $57.00 in trade in credits. So a new EVO and a case normally would be $219.98 she got for $33.00 with the free month of service credit and the trade ins.
Moral of the story, call Sprint, ask them to match the price and see what they offer you. I did select the "cancel my service" option when I called as I think the representatives at this dept. have more leeway to make generous "offers".
YMMV as I had an EVO(me), Tour(wife now EVO), Pre(hand me down to my daugter), Instinct HD(daughter), Optimus S (son), Airave, and 2 Dell Mini 1012 Netbooks (daughters for Christmas!) on my personal account which may have been the motivating factor for Sprint to make me an offer (although I doubt it since most are all under a current agreement)! Sprint Customer Service is/has been an absolute pleasure to deal with for approximately the last year / year and a half!! Good luck and Merry Christmas!!!
Oh forgot to mention, the rep I dealt with on the phone, called me back 2 hours later to check on how my upgrade went at the store, I told her great and she was excellent! She put her supervisor on and he let me know they waived the activation fee (not sure if it was $18.00 or $36.00) too!!

How about I tried that...and the rep was all ready to move up my upgrade date, had her supervisor on the phone as well to approve it....and then dropped this bomb: we'll go ahead and move up that upgrade date but you'll HAVE to purchase your new phone through sprint telesales or in store or our sprint website. otherwise we can't do that.

I was thinking that might be the situation but figured it was worth a shot. Sucks to you couldn't pull it off. Maybe you can get them to pricematch like the poster above.
Does anyone know if this is still going on in store, when you trade in an old phone? I'm gonna call them soon and ask, but I just wanted to make sure.

I work at Best Buy, and after I learned of this deal, I asked our mobile division if they price matched...I figured I'd give it a shot because they do price match a lot of other stuff. But no dice. I (jokingly) shunned them, then left the store after my shift.
So the search began. I probably called 5-10 Radioshacks within in a 45 mile radius. I thought I had hit success when I called a more rural store, but then found out that they do not honor the old phone deal.
I called one more store. This one was near my college, and the manager actually answered the phone. I told him of my dilemma, and he told me that his store didn't have any, but he would call all of the other stores and then call me back. I didn't think he would, so I headed home. Ten minutes later, he called me back. I thanked and then questioned him on the previous rural store's policy, and he explained that they wouldn't do it because it was a franchise store, when his and the others like his were corporate. He told me that he had 1 white evo (the one I wanted) shipped to his store for me from another store. Amazing.
Anyways, I turned around, drove in, (complete in my Best Buy uniform), have him my old HTC Diamond, and he had me activated in no time.
If any Radioshack reps are reading this, I really give this manager my applause. He literally went out of his way to help me, which sadly happens less and less these days.

Wow! That's great! You're right, people don't go out of their way like that too often nowadays. Customer service for the most part leaves a bad taste in our mouths, whether on the customer or service side....So this was refreshing to read. Ugh, I'm jealous LOL. Enjoy your new phone!
oh, i've been meaning to ask, when you all traded in your "old" phones, whatever they may have been, did you turn in all that came WITH the phones? like the charger, the case (if it came with it), the box and booklets, etc...
I did this deal yesterday in AZ. Walked in and saw signs all over for it. Asked a sales guy for help and he jumped right on it. I turned in an old blackberry curve I had sitting in my garage. Nothing else. Just the berry, battery and battery cover. He just made sure it powered up and I walked out with my Evo, screen protector and a hard case for $118.
So far I dig it a lot. Still getting use to not having actual buttons from my blackberry tour. I misspelled a lot of words. Haha. Thanks for all the info you guys all posted about this deal!

i need to find out if this is so for my local radio shack(s) cuz that's my upgrade eligibility date!
and i have maybe 2 phones i can turn in...one an old samsung m520 in perfect condition...my mother's old phone. she never used it without a skin and screen cover, cleaned the keys with alcohol pads everyday, always kept it in a case, never got it wet, never dropped it, etc...and maybe my bb curve 8530 i have now...although i may wanna hang onto it just in case, ya know? it works just fine. no issues other than the normal random RIM issues...there is a little bit of liquid damage tho, as the the lil square pad inside next to the battery is a bit pinkish more-so than white. not sure if that will make a difference to the sales rep or not @ RS.
part with my BB tho...whew, that's a big step. like taking the pacifier away from your baby...hmmm....then again, if it means i'll get the 100 off the walkin price of 199, and get a bit more of a credit to put towards maybe an accessory...((thinking...thinking...thinking...)) lol
That shenanagin with the crap trade in phone will more than likely cost the guy his job.
I guess it depends on the salesperson, but they seem to be pretty lienient. I asked my salesman "how does Radioshack make money off of this?"....he had no idea. But he took $100 off of the phone so I was happy. But to answer your question, I would try to bring that stuff just in case, but more than likely as long as you bring in the phone and it can turn on, you should be fine
When I traded mine (old Nokia 8290) I gave them the charger & the phone. He turned it on to see that it worked & that was that. It even had a cracked screen (cover). I hope the deal is still going on for you next week since Sprint is trying to screw you. They put me through the same thing though. I called & the rep on the phone told me that it was all set, just have the store clerk call in & verify. Of course when she called in it wasn't set up. Long story short their system said I would be eligible in 24 hours so I left the store pretty heated.....obviously glad I did now!

Thanks! I think I will bring in everything, box included. Best to always be prepared, right? As for sprint, shouldn't it just matter that I want to renew my contract with them. I've been with sprint for almost ten years. I don't have a bunch of lines of service, just my one phone, but my loyalty should speak for itself and I think it's honorable...that and the fact that I'm never late on paying my bill, and usually pay ahead/over so there's a cushion of credit on the account in case of emergencies...Whether I get it from them or RS or BB or Amazon or the back of Uncle Jailbird Joey's (lol) truck, I'm still using THEIR service. They'll still be getting my money because, quite frankly, they have the best plans IMHO. Sooooo, yep, I hope the sale is still going on next week...fingers crossed.

New to this forum, just did this deal and will be coming from the Palm Pre. Loved the Pre but couldn't pass up the Evo for $99...think I will enjoy the phone once I get it and get over the learning curve.

I was able to get Best Buy to price match this deal. I tried Radio Shack first, but they couldn't access my Sprint Referral plan. Best buy could and matched the price of the phone, but wouldn't throw in the free bluetooth headset, which was fine with me as I already have one that I don't use much anyway.
I'm also coming from a Palm Pre that finally got to be too unreliable (power/battery issues) and I'm enjoying the EVO and Android very much. At this price, I couldn't wait for a better deal.
