I took advantage of this deal last Tuesday and scored me my Evo. I love it. BUT - it wasn't easy.
I took a couple of my older phones to the Shack nearest my work. I have two phones from 2004/5 that work just fine. I read on the RS twitter page, and on their own web page (early last week) that they would accept ANY phone. When I got there, I was told that wasnt the case - and of course the two phones I had were NOT on their list of acceptable phones. The manager was there and hooked me up anyway - they had a couple of old phones that other employees had brought in. So, he used one of those for me. When I mentioned I would like to get one for my wife as well - he said NO PROBLEM! And as long as the phone is on the list - it doesn't even have to work! Right on!
But, since I was off the rest of the week - I decided to get her phone at a RS closer to my house. There are 5 locations within 5 miles of my home.
Anyway - that is when I heard a number of different stipulations that were not in the original announcement for this promotion. I called or visited 6 RS locations and heard one or more of the following:
1) Phone must be working. 2) Must be a Sprint phone. 3) Phone must be on approved list. 4) Must be the phone currently on contract. 5) Only one deal per household. No two stores gave me the same story. Each one was different. One store offered to give me the phone anyway - but they were out of stock. Grrr. I have nothing against Radio Shack - but it is no shocker that they are struggling to remain relevant in this day and time. I am happy they are trying to remain competitive, and promote a great deal on a wonderful phone - but I wish they could get their story straight!
So - after all that, I just decided to order it from the RS website. No muss and fuss with a trade in. Just $99 bucks (plus tax) and 10 bucks shipping. Got the free BT headset as well and delivered right to my door (or soon to be).
