EVO and the Pre Headphones

At least, from the collective experience, the Pre phone jack is not as prone to mechanical failure as the ones on the Treo line ~ my feeling this was related to the use of a 2.5mm jack on those models.

Kuddos to Palm, it only took about 5-years and about 6-8 devices to make a sturdy phone jack that would not break with normal use!

haha, Well i'm still getting used to not swiping on my EVO. WebOS will be missed, Palm hardware will not be

Does anyone know all the functions that the headset performs? I noticed already trying to change a song with the double click redials the last number called.

Thanks

Quite untrue, unfortunatly. I replaced 3 PREs for bad headphone jacks, 2 were mine and one was my wife's. A coworker of mine just had his replaced for the same problem. It would get stuck in headphone mode when you unplugged the headphones and the normal phone speaker would not work. You could only use the phone in speaker phone mode or with the headphones plugged in! Terrible experience. All 3 replacements Sprint confirmed that it was known defective hardware and that the PRE was prone to this issue (apparently they replaced a lot of PREs because of this).

No issues so far with my EVO, thank God! :D

So I guess we'll take the kuddos back from Palm... :o

Yeah, this problem became so prevalent that in the PalmOS versions of the Treo an enterprising developer devised code to bypass the headphone jack circuitry so the phone could be useful again... no fix from Palm itself for what was a very common Treo problem.
