My letter from Verizon this morning before the update even announced...

Good Morning Brooks,
I can certainly understand your frustration regarding the 2.2 software update and I would be happy to assist you today. My name is Jennifer and I attempted to call you today at 9:21 am PST to discuss your email directly over the phone but I was unable to reach you.
At this time, the 2.2 Froyo software update is not available for the Samsung Fascinate. We have been told that it currently is testing but we have not been given a date in which it will be released. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.
Please remember that software updates are processed and pushed out by the manufacturer. If you would like to voice your concerns regarding this update, please feel free to contact Samsung. They can be reached online at HDTV Televisions | LCD TVs, LED TVs, Plasma TVs | Samsung or by phone at 888-987-4357.
If you would still like to cancel your service, please let us know. Of course, we would hate to lose your business over your frustration with the 2.2 software update but we can understand. To cancel your service, please call us at 1-800-922-0204 or respond to this email.
Note: If you are planning on taking your number with you, the line must remain active in order for the porting process to complete.
Brooks, I am sorry for the delay in my response to your email but I hope that the Froyo update information I have provided to you is helpful. We appreciate your business and thank you for using Verizon Wireless products and services. Should you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this e-mail.
Sincerely,
Jennifer

SO IS IT SAMSUNG OR VERIZON??????????
It has to be Verizon, we know, know that Samsung has the update complete. At the very least the GSM U.S. phones should be updated by now, I can accept that being CDMA might slow down updating the Fascinate and Epic. U.S. carriers just don't seem very concerned with updates. I assume because they're already got you to pay for the phone, and updates really don't bring them any extra revenue. Which at this point I'd be willing to pay a small amount for Froyo, a very small amount, but just something to get them to actually care about it.

DL09 appears to have all the same fixes as 05...it may just be more stable if anything else. If you're 100% satisfied with DL05, I wouldn't bother.

Looks like I am going to be jumping into the world of ROMS. Not that I was afraid, I just didn't want to get into the cycle of having to completely clear out my phone every other week to play with them.

Your screen is saying server unavailable because you are on wifi, not 3g. I was having the same problem with my wife's phone. I had to turn off wifi, reboot phone and try the download and it came back and said that no update was available.

One thing is for certain, the naming of these updates is horrible, none of us can keep it straight.

Someone stands to lose money somewhere when some of these apps can only be used by 2.2. Heck Verizon is selling accessories that can only be used in 2.2. That is some business they are losing.

He makes an excellent point. I actually read one time that a Verizon rep told his customer that Froyo for the Fascinate was already out, but you had to pay $5 to get it and that's why people were frustrated. Laughs were had by all.

But yes, Samsung has released Froyo on other phones. There's nothing unique about Verizon's Fascinate albeit their own bloatware.

I guess there's a price to pay for having good reception even underground...but I'd rather there not be.

Well it must not be enough to concern them or they would do something about it.

Pretty much, which takes anyway any power we have to demand anything from them.

my phone is rooted can i still get the update? because it tells me its checking for the update but then says no updates availible

Any Luck?

Has anyone had luck actually getting the OTA update (either by manually going into Settings>About>System Updates or the actually update getting pushed to their phone)?

If my memory serves correctly, I didn't get my DI01 till like 3 days after the initial posting on AndroidCentral. At this point, I'm just happy to be getting anything at all..

BTW, posting from Florida, so that if anyone else in Florida has had luck, that be nice to know!

Dude, what are you talking about!?

a long post ago, in a thread far far away....
well acutally i think it was this thread, i made a joke about if you believe that we are getting an update then i have a bridge to sell you, and then some one said they had a some farm land in greenland they would trade me, the tractor came from some where, then i asked if i could float it to greenland. well you get the picture.

has anyone actually gotten this update from vzw, not xda, but the real live actual vzw update?

Yeah, I live in Florida too, but I haven't gotten any update. I've been checking like some crazy lunatic. Verizon is such a butt hole.
