Fedex stole my fold 4 return

They didn't ask me for the IMEI number before shipping. Most people don't have their IMEI number either. You might be able to get it from the carrier but if it's already on someone's account they can't block it. So I suppose they could, but they won't put that kind of work into it, the person that owned it would have to do it.

And chances are if it was stolen is probably leaving the country and I think they can change the IMEI number also. That I'm not sure on
Just to clarify OP did a return on his fold 4... not his trade-in device

And I want to add to the op of this thread to file a claim with the BBB. Make sure, however, that your claim is specific and details exactly what went wrong as well as what you want for a resolution. I think what helped me to finally get results from Samsung was how detailed and specific my claim was. Hope this helps and I hope that you get this worked out.

It's still basically the same issue though because his device was entrusted to FedEx for shipment and apparently it was stolen on the way to Samsung. Since it was a return Samsung most likely generated the return shipping label which means he will not be able file a claim with FedEx. FedEx will tell him that only Samsung can file a claim since they are the originator of the label. Samsung will then tell him that they will not file a claim against FedEx because it is not their policy. He will be told that he has to do it himself. He'll get bounced around to different reps and they will promise one thing or another only to tell you that they can't help. At this point the BBB is his best option imo.

My advice from now on to anyone who uses Samsung's trade in program is to NOT use it. Go through best buy or sell your old device on swappa or ebay instead. However, if you just can't resist those high trade in values and decide to keep using them I would record yourself packing up your item INSIDE the FedEx store and handing it to one of their representatives.
One side of the coin is… people doing trade-ins can be dishonest as well. Not directing this to the OP, but there was one thread where it was a situation when a seller sold a new S22U, apparently the seller took advantage of the trade in.. but never actually traded in his device. Come to find out… S22U later became blacklisted because of this.

I absolutely feel for the OP, I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes. But I’m only stating that people sometimes attempt to scam in these scenarios.

It's unfortunate..I've seen this happen to a few ....I've always video captured my boxing up phone for return just something I've done all my years ...but still dealing with all the crap with Samsung and FedEx is a pain ...

I have to give it shot I can’t just loose almost $2000. On Reddit there’s other people with the same issue samsung got the package but content missing with video. Something tells me is a inside job

I know I could not lose 2k and I would try too but it will be hard to do anything about it since it is your word against them. That is why I mentioned the weight of the package shipped. It could prove you had more than a earbud case in it.

I’m really screwed because the same day I also send a trade in from my wife flip 4 and that also is lost. It was scanned at the fedex location and thats it no more movement. I called fedex they created a case also for that too and that was before samsung send me the email about the missing fold 4. I really don’t know what will happen. I know for sure never again I’m using samsung nor fedex.

Problem with the weighing argument.. its a prepaid package. FedEx representative told me the same when I wanted a receipt for my trade in. They told me that once it's scanned... that's the only receipt the customer is given.

This is the exact reason I go directly to the stores to purchase my phones. Plus AT&T is giving a much better deal than Samsung with the trade ins.

There have been too many of these horror stories about Samsung and Fed Ex.

Hopefully you can get this resolved.

What trade in deals did you use for AT&T? During that time... I didn't see any good deals compared to Samsung. Because I was worried about using Samsung for my trade in, but 1k for my Fold 2 along with the extra goodies... was too good to pass up.

No goodies are good if you have a risk of loosing more if you don’t like a device and have to return it. I wanted to try the new fold so bad and is a nice device but the screen was so narrow and got headache’s. next time especially with samsung I’m going through best buy or my carrier.

A post like this always makes me nervous. This time around I traded in two devices... $1,600 worth of devices. I got the email that both devices got "received" but but are waiting to be inspected... So I'm hoping at least both devices are in the box cuz I think it probably would have been flagged by now upon "received".

Any idea how it works? If an empty box is discovered it wouldn't get labeled as received? Or does a empty box get labeled "empty" upon inspection?

I would say empty on inspection.

Not exactly they received my package on Thursday early morning I got an email like around 7pm and next day at around 5:30pm they send me the email that it was missing.

When the package gets delivered it is only signed that the box was delivered. It might not get opened for a couple days.

Editm.i should say when it gets delivered it's scanned and that's how they know it got delivered. I don't know if anyone signs for it, they probably get a lot of boxes every day and they just get scanned and someone signs for the whole lot. That's my guess.

I don't order or return any expensive items through shipping any more... everything's done in person. It's a new world of lawlessness, and now that criminals have realized how easy it really is to "criminal" I don't think it's going to change.

One thing in your favor is I've read tons of these stories... many many of them here, and I don't think I remember one where the person lost their money. Samsung and FedEx knows this happens all the time ;)

I'm going to weigh in with this thread. I made a lengthy post about this issue close to 1 year ago when my wife's note 20 Ultra trade in was stolen through FedEx. Samsung was going to charge me $600 and dealing with their customer service was absolutely horrendous. It also won't work to try to contact FedEx and file a claim. Initially I was bounced back and forth between Samsung and FedEx as to how to resolve the issue. Samsung told me that I would have to contact FedEx about filing a claim for a stolen package. After contacting FedEx they informed me that they could only launch an investigation for a stolen package if I was the original shipper of the item. Since Samsung generated the shipping label only they could file the claim. I tried being nice and civil for a few weeks, then became ugly all to no avail. Finally I just filed a claim against Samsung with the BBB and the issue was surprisingly resolved by upper management within a week. I meant to post a warning message in the forum about this issue right before the fold 4 and flip 4 were released just to remind everyone of what could happen but I never got around to it. I really don't understand why Samsung still uses FedEx for shipping. I even asked Samsung reps why can't customers just use their own shipping services? At least that way we could insure packages ourselves against theft.

^^This^^.... I don't know why anyone would trust FelonEx with anything of value, especially Samsung shipping potentially thousands of dollars of highly desirable electronics to and from customers. Actually I do know why lol... it's because they probably save a buck on shipping, and don't give a crap about their customers ;)

Hopefully your right. I’ve been doing trade ins for years since the note 4 and never I had issues with my trade ins or returns. Is just crazy how everything has gone to crap lately is just sad.

I just noticed this in my news feed... Best Buy is offering the same trade-in values in-store as Samsung. So you can walk in with your trade-in and out with your new phone. I wonder why they're doing this now? LoL. Here's the link with the details: https://www.droid-life.com/2022/09/02/best-buy-fold4-flip4-best-deal/amp/
