Rjh....were you stock or rooted?

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

I am writing up detailed instructions for manually installing the Stock Gingerbread OTA and I will post them in the Gingerbread OTA! thread when done so it will be closer to the OP and easier to find. For those having problems and don't want to wait, Make sure you SD card is formated as FAT32, not FAT and the Third download (The one in standalone quotes of Muddyml's Post) must be renamed update.zip, not update.zip.zip or PB31IMG.zip or anything else. If you have doubts - wait until I finish the Instructions. ;)

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

OK - My steps to success:

  1. Power down the Dinc
  2. Remove the SD Card
  3. Copy SD contents to PC
  4. Format SD Card FAT32
  5. Copy files / directories back to SD card
  6. Download the 6f37e6f6b9ab.OTA_Incredible_C_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_4.06.605.3-3.26.605.1_release_210690.zip file to your pc
  7. In Windows, F2 the file (rename) to update
  8. Copy the file to the root directory of the SD card
  9. Eject the SD card from the PC and reinstall in DInc
  10. Power and down volume buttons to boot to bootloader
  11. Power button to hload (I think that was the choice)
  12. Wait ;)

Dinc reports:
2.3.4
2.15.10.07.07
2.6.35-13-g55a06e5
Build 4.06.605.3 CL140944 release-keys

I was (and still am) Stock. Haven't been brave enough to root or build ROMs yet... Was more comfortable with the xda kitchen for Windows....

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

why does it take so long for the ota to hit phones?
Personally, I think it is a VZW marketing strategy... But is probably related to bandwidth and network load... ;)

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

Looks like I've had some success....

Took out the SD Card. Copied all file to my PC. Reformatted FAT32. Put all files back. Renamed the suggested file (Froyo to GB) from 6f37e6f6b9ab.OTA_Incredible_C_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_4.06.605.3-3.26.605.1_release_210690.zip to update

I did not include the zip extension because Win7 automatically attaches the extension (I think I checked the properties/details and it appeared as update.zip.zip - removing the .zip appeared to address my problem).

Right now the DInc is green arrows in a circle and a progress bar is slowly creeping towards complete...

That worked for me. :)

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

Sorry guys. I really thought I had something. From the way its looking it might not be so... The path seemed legit and the size and everything are matching up to what I've read.

Hoping someone with more experience can tell me what I've found if its not the update.

:(

Muddy - You nailed it.... Right file, just figuring out the correct steps.... Nothing is ever easy...

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

To follow up and clarify some earlier posts.....This is for "Stock" Dincs

When you move the file to Root Directory on your SD Card from Windows..... Do NOT name it "update.zip". The "zip" extension will be added automatically.

Instead, just rename the file "update"

Hold down the "Volume Down" key and the Power key....and the phone will do the rest.....recognizing the update file automatically.

The "eye" will stare at you for a bit after the D-R-O-I-D sound.....be patient....

Lockscreen will appear

From there, the phone will continue updating for another minute or two....

In less that 10 minutes, you will have the update installed....NO Apps lost.....EVERYTHING intact....media, sms, contacts and apps!

Good Luck and Enjoy....D

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

Already had a question.....I left a part out....

after renaming the file "update"....disconnect your phone from the computer and power it completely down.

Then...... hold the "Volume Down" button and the "Power" button simultaneously. Phone will power up and do the rest.

Apologies....D

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

Does anyone know how to switch between vibrate, silent and the selected ringtone? I used to hold down the power button, but that is not working now.

Re: Finally, Gingerbread for All DInc Owners! Part 2! Update's av

So phone still thinks its a 4.3 inch display. Also notice when in the Android market it brings up sprint apps not Verizon. Does it think its a sprint phone.

It pulls sprint specific apps. Wasn't this an error in the release that was pulled. Sorry new to this all.

Still can't get this to work. Going from .2 to .3 downloading the correct link. Change name to update and put on root of SD. Says no image found and returns to the hboot screen.

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. Odd that they would change something like that.

Not sure if you like this answer but there is a profile widget. I think it's under settings after you click tp add widget. It's a small icon but I've always had it on my home screen.
