Someone told me that the sides sense your fingers electrically somehow. Does that make sense? If so, the fact that even though you were in landscape, your fingers were very close to the sides and maybe the phone could sense them. That may also be why it seems to work for some with a very thin case, but not thicker?

Well, I also tested registering the fingerprint without the back covering on and noticed it registered it much quickly than with it on. I think the backing being plastic and your finger touching it while trying to register a fingerprint is interfering with it.

I ordered the Spigen clear plastic TPU case from Amazon and received it this morning. Fingerprint scanner works just fine with it on. No hesitation at all.

Sweet, mine is being delivered tomorrow. Ordered it before I read that it might be a issue. Glad it is not.

I have the T-Mobile Incipio case and successfully registered a fingerprint. It takes a few tries sometimes to unlock, but it does work.

Leykis, it looks like you have your whole hand on the back of the phone and like someone else mentioned, one of your fingers is probably close enough to the rail to register. I was holding the phone with just two fingers, over the LG symbol and directly behind it, making sure that my other fingers were not close to the rails. I'll probably never put a case on the phone so it most likely won't matter to me until I see a case that I really like. Thank you for the video though.

Well I didn't want to drop the phone lol. Yeah, my hands were on the back but no part of it was touching the side rails and was still able to register a fingerprint. I'm not saying there isn't any issue with the scanner...there is....but I don't believe the reason why fingerprints can't be registered is because your hands aren't holding the side rails of the phone.

I'm hoping to get my Obliq case next week and I'll see what happens. If the fingerprint scanner isn't going to function correctly with a case on then LG needs to do something to make this right and I don't think a software fix alone is going to resolve the issue.

This is my experience with my TPU case....my finger print scanner works the first time 98% of the time. HOWEVER, for the first two days (got my V10 on Friday) it was a little flaky but it seems to be very reliable now.

Here is a post that seems to indicate it is indeed sensing the electrical impulse of contact or proximity to the metal sides. If so, I can't see how this could ever be fixed in software? https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/895341

Look at the picture and description I linked above and it seems like it is definitely an electrical sensor on the sides. Have your fingers close enough and it works, even if not actually touching the sides. That would explain the thick vs thin cases also if a very close proximity is enough to get it to work.

I don't doubt some anecdotal stories that the fingerprint scanner does not always work. It is not an issue with every phone as we have read. Personally I held my phone without touching the sides and my scanner still worked. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I really do not want to play with tape and aluminum foil. It is so messy taking it off my head.

I went to T-Mobile last night to get a case for the V10. I had read that when put in a case that the finger print scanner would stop working so I tried it in the store.... sure nuf, finger print scanner couldn't read my finger print......what's up with that?

I have two cases that I use on my V10, the sleek silicone case and the leather Tridea anti shock grip improver, I have not yet had a single problem with my fingerprint scanner and I set it up without either case. Hope this helps you to not lose faith in the fp scanner as it is an amazing feature, star trek **** man.

Good news/bad news. Got my Spigen Slim and Soft case today. Good news is the finger print scanner works just fine, bad news is I hate the case. Looks cheap, ugly and does not feel good in my hand. Glass screen protector comes tomorrow, think I am just running with that.

If software only on certain models. Since I assume different carriers have slightly different software it must be only certain carriers. My Verizon does not have the issue.

Just got the V10 and love the phone however the fingerprint scanner does not work at all with the incipio case sold at T-Mobile...

Anyone using a case which allows the scanner to work flawlessly?
