Fingerprint Scanner Not Working Well

I've come to the conclusion we are going to agree to disagree. I don't think they should be bashed that bad but that's what I think. If you all believe that they should be bashed that's fine.

It's not bashing to be honest about the performance of the feature. It also wouldn't be bashing to say the camera is not a substantial improvement over the S9, and that the Pixel 3 still takes better pictures, especially in low light. That's not bashing the camera, it's being honest about the performance.

Re: Relax and Just Use Face Recognition

Facial recognition seems to be ridiculously fast so I'm already set on using it as my primary unlock

For what its worth guys, I have dry skin during the winter months so today I put a little moisturizer on, which I hate doing and I did notice a more accurate read. Also, I have to agree with the learning curve. Obviously its finger placement, but more importantly I think its timing.

Curious, does anyone have this "faster recognition" option in their settings that he talks about at around the 1:47 mark? I do not [TMO variant S10+ 128gb]

It's simply a learning curve. Yesterday once I got the phone setup, I probably was successful 30% of the time trying to unlock the device. Today, I've had hardly any rejections unless I had something on my finger (sweat after working out, water from my water bottle). I'd say my success rate today is 80% or more. I've had the device maybe 28 hours, and I was asleep for 7 of them.

By this weekend, I suspect I'll be close to a 99% success rate.

If you got FPS problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but FPS ain't one.

Faster recognition is only face unlock , I also have the tmobile version s10+ 128gb

I do not have that option on my Sprint unit.

I like that you don't have to hold the finger/thumb down so long.
It's just a tap. Fantastic tip.

Mav.

well when I get my phone I'm going to get the update and try to scan my thumb a couple times and see if it works. If not I'll unlock my phone a different way. I don't want to take off the screen protector. And I watched Flossys video he told me it didn't have a screen protector on the phone. Cuz I made a comment I'm thinking his review unit didn't and maybe they decided to put one on after the fact I don't know. It's still going to be a great awesome phone and Best Buy said they don't have my pink one yet :-(

It's gotten to the point where my thumbs are starting to feel sore from pressing harder (after being directed to do so). Sorry, but it's not cool. TBH, it's a PITA and I don't look forward to using the FPS because I know it's gonna likely be a PITA. I'm not going to return the phone or anything as I'm fine with using the pattern but to know the FPS doesn't work as intuitively or easily as the Note 9 I had and many phones before is, well, disappointing. I don't think I should have to "learn" how to use the new FPS. It should work as easily as the FPS that came before it, but perhaps I'm unique in expecting that. I like everything else about the phone though and perhaps AT&T will release the update that makes the fps work better, who knows.

I don't think you're unique. Hopefully there will be a fix for those having trouble.

I just don't know what to think. I've been having great luck with the FPS today. Is my skin different? Am I getting better at using it? Is it random?

Re: Relax and Just Use Face Recognition

@Maknora: You're point is completely valid in my eyes. I used it for me S9+ as well. I use my fingerprint for financial transactions, which I obviously don't perform as often as unlocking my phone.

Edit: And passwords when supported.

Re: Relax and Just Use Face Recognition

superfast. the fingerprint will get better

Re: Relax and Just Use Face Recognition

The thing about facial recognition is if someone looks somewhat similar to you. Apples faceID takes much more facial points and is accurate.

Lol...mine got worse after putting moisturizer on but it has mos Def been getting better over the course of 24 hours. And the update, available after I set it up yesterday, also helped.

I'm not trying to be dismissive of your opinion, but that's not a significant concern for most folks I don't believe.

I'm having the exact same issue with pushing so hard, I'm waiting for the screen to crack.
I even reluctantly removed the screen saver (that was so precisely installed by Samsung) and that didn't help. And as I expected, I was unable to replace the screen saver without air bubbles. Ugh. When I see videos of other users demonstrating the "proper" way to use the FPS, it looks so effortless. I need to perform the finger touch with vice grip like pressure to finally get an unlock.

I'm going to swap it out for another under the assumption that this is defective.
