Hello all, I am a convert from the apple bubble. I have decided I needed a change from Apple and have given my iphone 5 to my wife so I can't go back (she has already sold her old iPhone)
So far my experience with my ONE has been mixed.. Its a bit of a shock when you first start using the ONE and there is all the bloatware.. did not like that one bit, I found Nova and that problem was sorted straight away. Blink feed is not for me, i want my social info on request, not feeding into my life all the time. Here are my installed apps (mostly paid for) that I am using to stumble by.
Nova launcher: Fantastic app, love the whole thing, although in 5 days it has crashed twice :/
Week calendar: The best looking calendar I have found for android - gives a month view with a daily preview below. Crashed once.
Google now : I like this.. if it is a bit eery. I am not sure about battery life impact yet... I am still trying to figure out the GPS usage indications.
Airdriod: Superb access to your phone to drag and drop content - The best solution I have found to get content on my device.
Double twist and Airsync : Double twist media player seems to be the best media player i have found so far. Air sync worked, but its a clunky user interface on the computer side, using airdroid instead.
Pocket casts : Podcast app, bought this after reading recommendations here, double twist has a podcast feature which i never tried, Pocket casts does the job, the interface could be better, it has a sleep timer and can skip forward 30 seconds at a time - essential for podcasts. I used instacast on iOS and pocket casts is not as polished as the ios app. You can download your casts and play them fine though.
widget locker: Bought this to get the lock screen behaving nicely, combined with NiLS this is essential, notifications that you can see and reply too from anywhere in the OS. Excellent. Crashed once.
Whats app: Using to send picture messages in stead of MMS. Crashed once.
Textra: Far far better than the stock messaging app, a good solid text app. Some things missing, like the ability to forward sms' but over all its massive improvement.
1password : Terrible looking app, bad GUI and barely usable, Essential to sync passwords between OSX and phone though. Needs work.
HD Widgets: Bought this and don't really use it, can be used to control various features, like light, wifi, bluetooth etc.. I may come back to it, not sure how badly the widgets impact battery life.
Chrome : Tried other browsers but chrome is doing the job nicely.. Has an infuriating 'bug' where touching the address bar does nothing for 3 touches.. then works. Then you touch the cross to remove the text in the box and it seems to miss a lot and ignore the touch.. This happens almost EVERY time.
Google music : Just a bad experience all round. Buggy, artwork displayed incorrectly, crashed twice.
Twitter : Using the stock app, looking for a good replacement (something like tweebot)
Looking for a good app to manage the images on the phone and a good app to manage contacts. The stock apps do this really badly..
So far my experience is middling, dont get me wrong, I am not hating on android or moaning, just passing on my experiences. I have left the iphone for a reason. I want to give th eone a good 6months of use before deciding where my phone future lies.
I am thinking about rooting the device to get the latest OS and use android as intended without all the HTC junk.. maybe.
Just my 2 cents
