First impressions (no S-notes)

So I've played around a bit with the new Samsung Notes app. It has a few of the features, just set up a little different.

I'm still not really a fan. S-notes still seems to be easier and better. Maybe that's a familiarity issue.

I was able to install S-notes from the apks linked to the video above and everything seems to be working fine.

Has anyone successfully installed S Note on their N8 and if so were you able to migrate your old snotes/action memos to the new device. I'm wondering what the best way is to save my N5 action memos so at the very least I don't lose the information.

I have all my notes and action memos from my Note 5. I just signed in to my Samsung account and I think there was a switch to turn on sync for S-notes. I'll see if I can find that and post again.

So I found two places to import and sync old S-notes. One is from within the app and the other is in the account settings of the phone.

Thanks so much Connert. I do have premium Evernote but haven't checked it for a while. I just backed up to my PC with SmartSwitch but will backup to my Samsung account as well. My biggest concern will be if the restored notes will be capable of being read by the N8. I don't care if I can edit them or not. If not, I'm going to have to start typing them all into a document - ugh.

So, I just synced with Evernote and I can see all of my action memos. Don't know why the sync wasn't taking place automatically. Even, if they don't transfer or are not readable on the N8, I now have a history of them, which is a great relief.

I agree Action Memo was a really nice feature that complemented the S-Pen nicely. They need to bring it back.

I've used Google keep for years it's great

I'm very much into cloud based apps & have also been using Google Keep, but mainly on my iPad Pro, Windows laptop or Macbook Air. I'm very happy to see how smooth & seamless it is to use it on the Note 8. Only 1 thing I wish it had... I can't handwrite notes in Keep, only dictate or type?

I just copied the SnoteData folder from my N5 to my N8. Works great. I don't sync or backup my data to any cloud services, only to my pc.

I feel like a broken record, but I need to ask the same question. Probably because I can’t believe no ones figured it out. But did you get Photo Note, Easy Charts, Idea Sketch, etc to work or just Action Memo still? If you got the other things to work please tell me how because I must of did something wrong. I used the instructions from that video, too and wasn’t able to get those thing. Now, 1 thing looks like if you have Nova Launcher you still can’t pin your Action Memos to you home screen, which stinks. I have had that problem since the Note 4 and I just use a widget to sort of get around it for 1 item. (Better than nothing)

Yes and no. The truly big issue for those of us that are doing all the whining is Action Memo & Link to Action. If you watch the video you'll see. It's been a part of what makes a Note a Note for a lot of us for a long time.

I stopped by my local Verizon store today just to have a few minutes hands on time with the new Note 8.

I'm surprised a bit by the shape, I was uncertain about the new thinner, taller profile. I have to say I like it a lot. It felt very good in hand, as best I could tell with the security tether attached.

I went straight to the app drawer to see if I could find S-notes with no luck. I kinda expected this to be the case. So I opened Samsung Notes and I'm definitely disappointed that it doesn't seem to have been changed much from the version on my Note 7. If any of you remember, Samsung Notes is a joke compared to S-notes. I hope I'm wrong and I can find the same Action Memo type features baked in or on the way. I still have the S-notes apk that worked on the Note 7. I'm hoping it will work on the 8 also.

Go to Samsung apps and it's there! And as you can see, you can add it to your s-pen selection list.

Not exactly. Samsung Notes can only Link To three things - phone, email and Internet. And it's incredibly cumbersome to use:

- Open Samsung Notes
- Write info
- Save note
- Open Samsung Notes
- Open note (in saved, not edit mode)
- Hover over info (depending on what the info is (will give only that particular option)

On the other hand, S Note's Action Memo:

- Open Action Memo
- Write info
- Click on Link to Action
- Choose action

There is also an app to install a shortcut to Action Memo (love it) - https://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=832982 , since the hold-pen-button-double-tap-screen option now opens Samsung Notes.

I unfortunately erased a site that that I was on. They used the same version of Snote app and I think the widget (not certain, but I know 1 other was the same version as mine). However, the other versions of the other plug-ins like Easy Chart, Idea Sketch, Photo Note, etc. are all different. I, unfortunately can’t get anyone on that site to write me back, so I was hoping that maybe someone saw that site as well (if I find the name of the site I will post it) and used those different versions. I wanted to know if they worked because I will then go through the trouble and risk of uninstalling those plug-ins and re-installing. But if they don’t work, I don’t want to go through the time and effort in uninstalling and re-installing all those plug-ins and I DEFINITELY don’t want to risk losing Action Memo because it’s the best, even though I really wouldn’t mind having all those plugs, especially Easy Chart and Photo Note. Thanks in advance for anyone’s help in advance.

I just found the site. I found it on XDA Developers. So I’m hoping someone had experience trying that or found the solution. There’s got to be a way. Remember these are just plug-ins. Thanks again!

I've tried a number of different versions, but still can't get those those to work. However, I recently noticed when setting an "Activity" in Nova (launcher) that they are all there. They actually open, but don't end up doing anything within S Note. Hey, one step closer, lol.

(I'll post screenshots of what happened when I tried that with Easy Chart in a while. I'll post that on XDA too. Maybe someone there can take it a step further.)

and frankly, google for my searching is about all I want them to be in charge of. not my docs or my notes. I don't like the interfaces of other note apps except lecture notes. action notes and lecture notes work extremely well for me. now it will just be lecture notes. not the best solution, but losing action notes sucks.

didn't they take it away in the note 5 and then put it back? maybe they will again if enough concerned users contact them.

You can get action memo from an apk file.
But you have to delete Snotes first.
Then install the files.

Trust me follow the direction and its easy.
My wife has it, works just the same. And when you're done you have to put SNotes back on. So it all works out.
