From BB to Incredible (Have issues, need help, advice)

Come Thursday...RIP 8330...you served your purpose....I am now off the the land of the Droids....

bbm was a huge memory leak

I stopped using it early

Favorite things about my storm:

1) surepress - I love that it won't activate anything unless I actually click the screen
2) knowing more about it than the IT people at my firm
3) the badge of honor I had with my tech geek friends every time I was able to get my reputedly piece of crap phone to do something theirs could not

I would actually be able to use my phone as a viable internet source. Better than my slow BB browser now. Go though a day without rebooting my phone, which takes longer than my computer.

Just wanted to throw out my experience in switching from the storm1 to android.

I was one of the few that really liked the Storm, I had to modify the screen clicking but I got it work great. When the droid came out my wife needed a new phone so I decided to get the droid and give my wife the one I didn't like or take back the droid if I didn't like it. From the first 10 min of having the droid I was hooked, It's hard to explain how much better the overall experiance is.

I don't miss anything from my storm, I'm a mortgage broker and do a lot of emailing and I have 0 issues, in fact it seemed that BB had BIS outages all the time. I have also gotten used to NEVER having to plug my phone into a computer, make a change on the computer or phone and they both just sync up, it's great!

The applications available for android are great, they work, and they are either free or CHEAP. I went to download a running app for my wifes storm and the only one I could find was $15 and looked $hity. I found 4 quickly for my droid (all free) and they are NICE.

So I'm going to rid my family of the BB for good now, my Increadible in on it's way. I'll give my wife the droid, and send the BB to my dad, he won't even realize the BB is running on 1990's software :)

I know some people are die hard BB users, just like the die hard Iphone users, and will never even give android a shot, but I really think it's the best thing out there right now and it has tons of momentum so it's only going to get better!

I'll miss BBM, but there's only four people on my list, so that won't be a heartbreak. I use Opera Mini as a browser on the BB, but the Inc's browser looks so much better. I do mail heavily. My personal email is Yahoo, so I guess I have to give up push. Does anyone know if IMAP mail services for a mail account hosted by Godaddy.com will push?

The stock browser on the incredible is better then then opera on the BB, but you can also download Opera for android (it's a little faster, but the stock one is better IMO.

Push email is probably the biggest thing I will miss. I loved getting emails on my phone 3 seconds after they were sent. That just rocked. But, waiting 5-10 minutes for the same email won't be bad. If someone needed me sooner than that, they should have called me. ;)

There are several ways to get email, I have 4 email accounts, I ended up forwarding my POP3 account to my gmail account and it gets pushed. explore the options I've never waited 5-10 min for any of my accounts.

Also, I hear that you can't voice dial using a bluetooth headset button push. Not on ANY Android device. It seems this has been a priority fix for the Android people. It'd be nice to have that (I haven't used it on my BB since it never seems to understand me).

This is true and a large complaint, however I have no problems with it. I have my phone on the car mount then I simply push the voice button (it's big in car mode) then the phone hears your command, it's not going through the blue tooth, but the phone call will. So really the only time this would be a problem is if your phone is not close enough to here you.

Thanks all, and if this phone works out, I'll sadly be leaving BB.

-J.

Good luck, I think you will be happy

I too am switching from the 8330 to the Incredible. Blackberry sucks. They are too slow to change and their build quality stinks. In 2 years I have had 6 Blackberrys all replaced do to manufacturing flaws. JUNK! I NEED MY INCREDIBLE!

Blackberry Tour converting to DROID INCREDIBLE (BLACKBERRY MESSENGER)

I currently have a blackberry tour and will be converting to the Droid Incredible as soon as it arrives at my front door. My only concern is Blackberry Messenger. I use it a lot with many friends and family. Is there an alternative in the Droid World that i can use to keep in touch with my Blackberry friends when ill be on the Droid Platform? Thanks.

There's obviously text-messaging, or you can have them download the Google Talk app for BlackBerry.

yea, google talk is the closest equivalent to bbm, however, all your friends will need data plans.

AIM is another alternative since a lot of people (at least a lot of people i know) already have an aim account.

a limitation of gtalk compared to bbm that i found kind of frustrating was the lack of an ability to send files to people.

BBM requires a data plan as well, so that shouldn't be an issue for them

Umm....I am using gtalk on my BB curve right now (until I get my Incredible) and I have sent files. Both pics and vids....

Can you not send files on gtalk from Droid devices??

Does Gtalk allow more than two users to message at the same time (like a chat room)? BBM allows you to invite other users into the discussion and my friends and I use that feature all the time. I'm also switching from the BB Curve to the Incred on Thursday, but will miss BBM for this very feature.

correct, it's a limitation on the android platform. my guess it that it stems from there being no built in file management system at all.
