To me, the LG Nexus should have that rumored 3,180 mAh battery, while the Huawei should have 4,000 mAh. For the prices that Google will charge, I'd say these are fair.

I agree. The only thing holding them back is how thin they're rumored to be, which is not even necessary for me. Give me an 8mm phone with a huge battery rather than 6.6 or whatever. That kills the hump too.

100% this, especially given Huawei's penchant for huge batteries in phones. The Mate S isn't the Mate 8, therefore it is a mid-range phone. The Nexus is Google's flagship, therefore should have no less than a 3,500 mAh, and at most the 4,200 mAh battery I heard they were testing.

I agree with you that the Mate S is just a phone released to have something to sell until the Mate 8 (and the Kirin 950) but it's not a mid-range phone.

It's the current Huawei flagship and it's official pricetag is 649€ for the 32Go model.
The P8 was their mid-range phone for this year.

It seems to me that the battery of the Mate S is more relative to a change of Huawei's policy regarding battery size. The P8 too comes with a pretty small battery (the P8 max comes with a 4300mAh battery but it is a 6.8" phablet).

Google don't have a flagship, and it's not a Huawei flagship either.

The Nexus device has always been a budget smartphone, with the weird exception of what Motorola came up with last year, and that bombed. And I bet you Google didn't have much say in the hardware that went in to the Motorola Shamu phone.

Don't kid yourself that Google wants the best of the best in hardware for their Nexus devices. They are used as a sales outlet to make profit out of their own platform. They never actually put any heavy marketing in to the product.

If you believe this is ever going to be considered a "Flagship" or premium device, you will be disappointed, every...single...year.

I would love to ask others here, what range do you see the Nexus device? A flagship?

This isn't really true. The Nexus line wasn't really considered budget friendly until the Nexus 4. The first two Nexus phones were $529 unsubsidized, and the Galaxy Nexus was well over $600. The 2015 models have the opportunity to restore balance like the Nexus 5 did. A lot of features that make phones super high-end aren't necessary, but Google can stack these phones with quality specs for an affordable price. It's definitely possible.

I'm not doubting for a second that two devices aren't better than one, I like the idea of having a premium Nexus or a cheaper Nexus to buy - my question was, why not give one manufacturer the task, why have two different designs for the same phone theoretically.

I might want a 5.7 inch phone, but prefer the LG design.

I think it has a lot to do with Google collaborating with the OEM's on the phone. I think it allows them to educate their OEM's about the Android OS from the base build (AOSP) and showing them how they can improve the other devices (non-Nexus) on Android. LG has upped their profile and quality of their devices since they built the Nexus 4 and I would expect Huawai to do the same going forward.

I've got to think that the 2GB of RAM is going to be a bigger problem than the battery. 2700mAh isn't great, but this (the 5X) isn't a 5.7" phablet either.

It's a slap in the face to all Nexus 6 owners and says that the greatest feature of our beloved phone is an abomination and mistake and promises/threatens to never again offer such a great screen on a Nexus.

It goes against everything I believe in.

It probably is fake, but I was really just posting to compare the bezels to another leak with giant ones. I think (read: hope) the real Nexus phones will cut down the top and bottom bezels some. With no fingerprint scanner on the front, those bezels need to be short.

I know I hate mine. The cool factor wore off fast. After 4 months, I wanted to throw it off a cliff. It does't fit in any of my scrubs with out weighing them down. What's worse? The battery wasn't even a lot better than my N5.

I put my sim in my N5, whoa! How bad I miss a regular sized phone.

If I could just cop a brand new Moto X 2013 with marshmallow and a non sucky battery...
