From OnLeaks, Get Excited

but there's no guarantee that'll have a larger battery either ... I agree it'll be a buzz kill, a huge one, but hopefully you won't be in that position. I'm coming from a Nexus 4 so I'm pretty much desperate. The LG or Hauwei version will be a monster upgrade for me. can't wait for quick charge, and check out M, specifically Doze, permissions and app data backup.

Oh wow. Well hopefully Google will be announcing the new Nexi early, since we've already gotten our final preview. Lollipop was officially announced about two and a half weeks after its final preview was released. If we get an announcement in early September I just might freak out! And we know at least the Nexus 5 is pretty much finalized, so it could definitely happen.

Qualcomm's Upcoming Mid-Range Snapdragon 620 Chip Outpaces Snapdragon 810 & Exynos 7420 in Leaked Geekbench Benchmark

SD 620 is benchmarking better than 810, and even holding its own against the Exynos 7420.

As for Kirin, Huawei's in house SOCs, they are total beasts.

Leaked Geekbench benchmarks of the 950 blew away the 7420 and can almost assuredly keep up with the 820.

BUT I'd personally prefer the SD820 for the Huawei Nexus 6 because of a few things.

1. Qualcomm makes a proprietary battery app called "battery guru" that spends 3 days studying how you use a phone and then automatically optimizes the settings across the phone to increase battery life 25%-50%. It's a crazy awesome app and any person with a phone with a Qualcomm chip that isn't using it is just wrong.

2. XDA support is much stronger for Qualcomm than for other chip sets. That means if you ever want to root and flash new roms (say once Google stops updating your Nexus) then it would be better to have a SD 820 than a Kirin 950.

Then again, given that the Nexus 4 got 3 years of upgrades I'm confident that any new premium Nexus flagship, especially a phablet, will get at least 3 maybe even 4 years of support which means you could own it 4 or even 5 years.

By then the battery will be shot to heck and useless and you'll definitely want to upgrade.

By the way, my philosophy for phone upgrades is like car upgrades. The anticipation is the best part and by waiting as long as possible to upgrade you really get a sense for the progress that phones have made.

For example, had I gotten a Nexus 4 I would still use it because its getting 5.1.1. That means I would now be finally looking to upgrade and have my choice of either a Nexus 6 for its bigger screen or the more advanced Nexus 6 by Huawei for its USB C, finger print scanner, and larger battery.

Upgrading from a Nexus 6 to a Nexus 6 (2015)? Other than a smaller screen and slightly bigger battery I won't really see a difference.

BUT 3 years from now? Oh yes, that will be something sweet.

It's even better with cars. My current car is a 2006 Volvo XC90 and within 6 months I'll be getting a 2016 Prius.

That upgrade will be like going from the 737 to the star ship enterprise!

Cars and phones are now both sufficiently advanced that you really can't tell the difference between annual or even bi-annual upgrades.

Wait 3, 4, or 5 years (assuming Google respects the premium Nexus phablet owners enough to go past its 2 year pledge) than you will still experience a child like thrill at a new phone.

Besides, I'm an investment writer for The Motley Fool and I can't get past the fact that $600 for a new phone that I don't need can be turned into $15,000 in the future, via deep value dividend investments.

Like Buffett, I'm cursed to never be able to buy cool toys, become I'm too darned practical;)

If there is no Huawei phablet I will be absolutely crushed.

Well not for myself, because I plan to own my Nexus 6 for at least 2 years, BUT thus far the rumors of 2 phones, both with front facing speakers seems to indicate that Google is developing a consistent and strong Nexus plan.

Each year there will be a Nexus for phone lovers and one for phablet lovers.

Each one will be premium, but naturally the phablet will be more premium and pack front facing speakers and the latest beastly specs.

That gives me hope that when I'm finally ready for a new phablet, even if Samsung, LG, and Moto let me down, a Nexus phablet will be there for me.

I kind of hate the spec wars with screens. To me anything over full HD 1080p is overkill. Yes, the quad hd screens are nice but so are the 1080p screens. I'd happily give up quad hd for extra SoT and I'd also give up thinness and a camera bump for extra SoT.

I absolutely agree with this. I mean, we're not talking about a primary TV here, or even a laptop; it's a phone! I enjoy watching things on my phone as much as anyone, but there comes a point of diminishing returns in terms of screen resolution on a device this small. Likewise the thinness factor; I mean, thin is nice, but my G2 is plenty thin for me, and I'd definitely forgo any further "thinning down" and screen res ramping-up in exchange for extended battery life and SOT.

Oh wow, yeah you definitely need an upgrade lol. But yeah, I'm still currently happy with my Nexus 5 so it won't be too hard waiting another year. I'll still get Android M with some of the features.

Yup I've been saying that for years. Two phones(regular/phablet) to please the masses. I hope this is the route they go from here on out.

I'd agree with you except for two points.

First, the quality of a phone's display does not only affect its entertainment value. In order to use a smartphone, you need to interact with text and objects on the phone's screen. If a higher quality display makes that easier across a wider range of environments & conditions for a greater number of users, then I say, "Go for it." I'd even be willing to take the inevitable hit on battery life.

Second, display quality is not just a matter of resolution. Brightness has to come into play, too (along with other potentially tweakable settings). And, again, if the current fascination with achieving the crispest and most color accurate display moves OEMs (and Google) to give users more adjustability options in "stock android," hip-hip-hooray.

At what point do the screen spec wars stop? I think the true turning point was 720p to full HD. After that, the extra PPI isn't that noticeable, if at all.

Should we expect Octa HD screens on 5-6" devices? Just think the battery life we could have if we just stuck with full HD!

LOL You people who obsess w/ batteries will never be happy. If the thing performs and lasts all day, regardless of battery size, you should be content. No phone will ever last two full days of heavy use on a charge.

Ever? It will happen soon.

If it wasn't possible, companies wouldn't tout it. The problem is, none have been able to actually deliver (ahem, Motorola). Until they do, don't write a check with your mouth that your arse can't cash.

I believe there will be way too much talk.. Question is what will it be as in size, hardware, etc..

I personally think it's a absolute must for a big battery with screens getting bigger, faster processor's .. Pretty pointless not to have at least 3200 MAH for a phablet....

couldn't disagree more. these phones keep getting more powerful, yet they choose thinness over battery. I'm a moderate to heavy user, and there's not a phone available in the US that would last me a day. there can and should be though, and I honestly believe one of these Chinese manufacturers will try and fill that void and we'll see two day battery life. ... since so many people "obsess" about battery it's obviously an issue. I'll be content when I see a 4000+ battery, until then I'll continue to voice my opinion.

and haven't you voiced your concerns and dislikes on this very thread? why is it OK for you to mention the features you prefer, yet we're not allowed to share our frustration with battery life, which is an issue for about 95% of us (per that recent poll here).

Agree 100% I want to know that I can use my phone as much as I want and it will last a full day, I'm not talking about streaming YouTube all day at full screen brightness. I am talking about using social media apps, watching some vids, playing some games, listening to music on the device, all the emails and texts I can handle. I work and do not have time to use my device all day long and still cannot go most days without pugging in. I am up at 5am and I struggle to find a device right now that lasts with moderate use past 3pm.
