If it's at least Nexus 6 quality I won't be too disheartened. I was even mostly fine with the Nexus 5 after it got a software update, so hopefully Google has been working on that.

slightly better than the nexus 6, not quite s6/g4 ... in thinking iPhone 6 give or take ... they slap a 4200 in there, I'll buy it even if it doesn't have a camera, and I'm dead serious. camera just isn't all that important to me, as this will be my work phone (personal phone, different criteria)
I mostly agree. An iPhone 6 level camera would be great, just with more megapixels. Google really does need to focus on writing better camera software. That's been a big issue with just about every Nexus, and it's an issue we shouldn't have on any Nexus.

totally agree. it'll be very interesting and the camera will speak volumes on what direction Google plans to take Nexus. I believe they want their Nexus brand to go mainstream eventually, cause Fi is going to be a multi billion dollar project and Nexus is gonna be a big part of that. 2015 might be a little to early, but Google knows that in order to get these into as many hands as possible, it needs to have a competitive camera.
Saw this and thought it was interesting. Could the Camara be as good as the g4?

I'm no expert on cameras, but I don't think simply having the same laser focusing system equates into the same quality camera. Also very skeptical, when the author even questions the validity of the source, it's obviously difficult to believe.
.... and I've heard the term "take it with a grain of salt" at least 100x this week!!
It's hard to tell considering only the sensor because there is so much others factors (aperture, software, ...).
But the IMX278 seems to be a more advanced sensor than the IMX234 found in the G4.
Both have the same cells unit size and definition but the IMX278 uses a non-bayer RGBW arrangement which increase the low light sensibility of the sensor and proved to be even more capable than the S6 in poor light conditions.
But sensor don't tell the whole story : the G4 for has an aperture of f/1.8 which is pretty ******* good considering the actual standards on the industry. It also comes with nice features like laser-AF and a color spectrum sensor.

question: these phones are near max in the spec department, meaning it's more about optimization and features at this point.
is the same true with cameras? I keep hearing how Google needs to do a better job with their camera software, that I understand. but how much room is left for better camera hardware, considering price of course? would u say it's more about software and optimization, or do they simply need better parts .... or a combination of both? and if both, which is what I assume, what percentage of each would you estimate?

The problem with the 278 sensor, as evidenced by the P8, is this it struggles to retain small detail in a lot of situations, and at least compared to the S6 and G4.

I think it's not a problem of sensor but more likely due to others factors.
The S6 has more MPx and better sized cells units along with a wider aperture so it's expected that the IMX278 can't resolve the same amoung of details because S6 have a better exposition to light.
For the G4 we have a better aperture and again more MPx with same cells size than the P8. So again it will capture more light and resolve more details.
But if you put a P8 (IMX278) a Mate 7 (IMX214), both have the same aperture and cells units size and the P8 resolve far more details.

Hmm…based on what I can see, the metal frame doesn't quite cover the whole side. So could this just be completely polycarbonate? Maybe it's just a render error. Either way, I think I'm leaning towards Huawei for the full metal build.

Has there been any word on whether the back (of the LG anyway) will be removable? Because, these images certainly look to me as if it might be designed to come off. Would seem an odd design/aesthetic choice, otherwise. Or is that just my wishful thinking showing?

If it is just a G4 underneath, just like the Nexus 5 was a G2 underneath... it may come with a removable battery.
I do love how simple the designs are for the Nexus line, the fact they focus on the software and keep it neutral with the design really works for me.
Lol.... To many rumors and they have gotten pathetic... The Styrofoam cut out was way over the top.. Google needs to end the rumors and set it straight......
