Froyo OTA: First Impressions

I tried that, said mine was already disabled. Wonder if it will be enabled when I connect to a PC which I haven't done yet since the upgrade.

Also, found this...
+->Shortcut->Settings->Device Administration Settings

Shows no administrators, but makes me wonder if there isn't some secret way that VZW or HTC can get root for troubleshooting or whatnot.

has anyone else tried this besides Revolutionary?
I did it and the installation went smoothly. However, I couldn't notice any improvement in the browser's performance...it was still choppy/laggy. Things improved a lot after I set the Plugins setting to "on demand".

Got my update the day after the "launch". Installation went seamlessly. I'm impressed with some of the new features (Google Voice Search is cool!). But the update didn't get rid of some minor things in the old software. 1) My home screen will flip to one of the side screen randomly. 2) On the Power Off screen - my Silent Mode is toggled the wrong way (says it's on when it's off and vice versa). 3) Randomly the phone will select a box (just turn it green) on a given screen. Again small things, but I'm wondering if they ring a bell with anyone? Overall, I love my Dinc; wouldn't trade it for anything!

Blow some air into your optical pad, sounds like there may be a piece of lint or something that it is reading as a finger movement. When I get random screen changes, blowing out optical pad fixes it.

GRRRR I see what you are talking about now! I had to recharge my battery via usb here at work(battery drains terribly) and it asked me to install software UUUGGGHHHHHH I hate VCAST it was terrible for the BBStorm and its terrible for droid!! WHY can't they leave it alone it was PERFECT before- when you find out ....let us all know, since we're in the same boat. Thanks!!:)

the camera seems 100X better in 2.2

and i thought we were suppose to get copy/paste in gmail?

Advanced Task Killer WON'T kill Skype or Verizon Navigator. You can kill it, but two seconds later they are both right back. Is this going to drain battery? Anything we can do to kill it for good? I don't use Skype and sure as hell am not going to use the $10/month Verizon Navigator when the other one is free.

Help!

It's there. Open an email and push Menu > More > Select Text. Drag your finger to select text, and then the instant you pull your finger off the screen, it will copy the text to clipboard and deselect the text. :)

im surprised they made it so many steps but it works so i cant complain haha thanks

is this for rooted DINCs only? I'm getting my nuts together to do unrevoked on it for the bloatware and BS VZW shoves on it- my battery is being monstrously eatin' by apps mysteriously deciding they want to run.

If you upgraded to 2.2 before attempting to root, unrevoked3 won't currently work. They have not updated it to work with 2.2 units yet.

IF you already had root and had obtained S-OFF using unrevoked-forever, you could get root back after upgrading to 2.2

There are ways to downgrade etc... but I would just wait until they update the tool.

Yeah, I've noticed that ATK won't kill a lot of stuff any more. Like My Verizon, SportsTap, Amazon MP3, and lots of others. You actually have to go in and force close to get them to stay closed. It sucks.

And battery life is noticeably worse with Froyo. I can barely get through a work day on a charge, where before I was getting 1 1/2 to 2 days, on the Seidio 1750 battery.

Can't hear out of ear speaker after update. Can hear out of speaker phone. Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions?

I noticed that when I unlock my phone, sometimes the weather animation is at the bottom of the screen, whereas the sun or other non-animated part is at the bottom. As stated before, ATK does not kill a lot of apps. Unlocking the phone (swiping down) has been hit and miss. When I open my browser bookmarks it says there are none for up to five seconds before it shows my bookmarks, and then some are double entries.

Aside from rooting (if possible yet), is there a way to uninstall all the extra crap like Skype, Amazon MP3, VZW Navigator, etc?

SIAP but I'm on the road and haven't been on much...

Has anyone messed with the new Google Voice Search options?

They are awesome, but the only one I can't get to work is the "send text to" one. Has anyone had any success with this?

If I say "send text to Bob Jones meet me at the park" it doesn't work.

The recipient section will be empty, and the message part will say "send text to Bob Jones meet me at the park."

Any ideas?

from what everyone has mentioned. The only way to get rid of it is by root. Although people have assured me that is doesnt put any more drain on the battery having it just sit there. Im not sold on that yet tho. I just see no reason why an app has to be running if your not using it.....

That seems to be a well-known problem with Voice Search/Voice Actions. "text to" simply does not work. Alternatively, you can just say "Text" and use the individual microphone icons on "To" and "Message" to complete the message.

Not great but hopefully they'll fix this soon.

For now, I use VLingo for texting/mail and Google Voice Search for "Listen to" and navigation. "Listen To" combined with Pandora is excellent for use in a car.

It's when you charge your phone till the green light come on. Then turn off your phone and unplug the USB charger. Wait one minute and plug the USB charger back to the phone. The red light will go on, until a few minutes later the green light will on. Unplug USB, wait one minute, then plug it back in until the red light turns green. You repeat this process until when you plug the USB, the red light immediately turns green. It's suppose to "fill your battery to the rim" so to speak. I tried but quit. Too much work. Get 1750 battery, it's slim, and will give you more power to last all day.

Several times now, I've noticed that the Notification window (the one you swipe down to see your new notifications) does NOT automatically disappear when I select one of the notifications. In 2.1, selecting one of the items made the Notification window automatically retract while presenting you with the app/content that you selected.

Sucks, but it's just a minor nuisance.

I forgot to add, when I open Facebook and look at News Feed (or go to older posts when it actually works which is rare), I get an error: An error had occurred while fetching data. [null]

My Notifications gives me: Cannot retrieve the notifications. Please try again later. [601/Parser error: unexpected '-' at position 64.]

I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointed so far. The cons are starting to outweigh the pros (but then again, I could just be getting nit picky too).

I hear ya......I see very little benefit to 2.2 and there is a huge negative effect on battery life. I had my phone finely tuned with 2.1 where it would hardly use any battery power while sleeping. I could leave it sit for 8-10 hours and the battery level would barely move. And I could get 2 days of moderate use on a 1750 battery. Now with Froyo it is draining quickly even when asleep.
