Re: Headphones problem - filled with static

Sorry for what may seem like a silly question but are you pushing until you hear the headphones click into place? If not then static could be produced.

In addition, did he happen to give you the earbuds that would have originally come with the phone? If so for health reasons you may not want to put them in your ear but hold them up to your ear to see if the static is being produced, I often hear of this happening when headphones/earbuds other than those that came with the phone are used. Sounds silly, but I would try them if you have them.

Sometimes cases will prevent one from connecting all the way until hearing that click.

You could try factory reseting the device as well, not much to lose and may help resolve the issue. Also, is this happening when on both 3G and Wifi? I have heard of cases where static occurs while connected via Wifi but streams perfectly when using 3G. Result, Wifi overload from what I am told.

Just thinking out loud in attempt to help, I hope everything works out for you.

Yes I have to keep pushing until the scratchy noise no longer comes again, then minutes later it comes back again! Should I change the whole motherboard? I slent spent over $70 just to keep fixing my headphone jack (fixed it 3 times) and there's still that problem. I need the headphones because I workout, walk to school, etc. Please help! Should I go to a mobile store and tell them to replace the motherboard? Or are there any other solutions? I tried all the things the poor guy told you about. What's next?

I joined the site but still can't access the thumbnails. Any way to post them so they are visible to these of us not clever enough to figure out how to view them? Thanks.

WOW. Bagging the jack area against my knee worked!! This thread saved me tons of time and money I was going to spend on all types of stuff. +1 internet!

Exactly how hard did you guys bang the phone on your knees? I've tried but it's still filled with static. I can hear the song, but it's soft and static.

Re: Headphones problem - filled with static

I was having this exact same problem. Headphones clicked all the way in. Tried multiple headsets. No lint or debris in the jack. Saw the post about hitting it on the back with your knee. CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!! Sound quality is fine now.

I'm writing and registering only thank for the smart solution!
I've been trying with my Note 2 almost 6 months for the sound issue because sudden distortion and zzzz voices. Tried lots of custom, official ROMs but no joy..
I've come across here by googling and read that solution.. Can't believe knee tactic worked!
Thank you all thank you!

Thank you for that tip, I used the palm of my hand in the area near earphone jack and I can listen with my earphones for the first time since I received my phone. Thank you everyone.

Don't beat on your phones!! I had the same problem, along with horrible GPS reception. I saw the post about the missing screw, and looked inside mine - the same screw was missing, just below the camera. I moved one of the side screws to that location, and tightened several others that were loose. Works like new now!!

You're telling me. I just spent the evening replacing the headphone jack which didn't work. Just static and no input. Sharp smack against my knee. Problem fixed.

I got this galaxy note 2 used for a bargain because the headphone didn't work and I was so heartbroken when replacing the jack didn't work. Until now that is.

Thank God for folks sharing their experiences on the internet.

Holy hell, it worked lol Samsung should put this gold in the users manual haha wow still can't believe that worked...Thank you!

Hi,

Hope you guys might still be subscribed to this thread. Please don't whack your phones, that may work by jiggling the electronics, but it is hardly a solution. I had this exact problem, and investigated for weeks until I finally found the solution. Check your headphone plug. If it has 2 rings, it does not have a mic connector. If it has 3 rings, it does. All Android devices expect to have 3 rings on the plug. The interference you are hearing is the mic trying to communicate with your non-existent mic on your headphones. Try any set of headphones sold with a button on the wire, ones which come with a mic. Check the plug, you will see 3 rings. There will be no interference.

Here is a picture of the rings so that you know what I am talking about :

I know this is a old thread but its a grounding issue. I just fixed my old note 2 a couple days ago I wish I'd taken pics...Anyway
Dont go putting tinfoil under the screw head by the camera like Ive seen on other posts. http://i.imgur.com/v6TwpZG.jpg that'll put pressure on the motherboard pushing it down. What you NEED to do is take mobo out and either build up the ground with solder under the mobo where its not getting a good ground right beneath that screw.
IMO tinfoil is dangerous if it comes loose & makes contact with something it could fry your phone. !

Peace

After my earlier rant I opened my phone and have managed to fixed my knee smacking problem. The problem was a bad ground between the screen and motherboard. I have added a picture of the two metal surfaces I cleaned (circled in yellow) to get the good connection back. These are not pics of my phone because it was apart obviously but it is the same phone. My sound is 100% crystal clear:cool: I believe the problem comes with dropping the phone and the connection going bad due to lack of enough screws in the area of the connection. I also ran the screw directly into the motherboard instead of through the plastic backing in the same area I circled. Stop smacking you're phones!!

great thanks dear
