Galaxy S20 Launch = Complete FLOP !

The cost based on materials is such a bad argument. There are so many things involved engineering, product roadmaps, research, marketing, sales, manufacturing, logistics, support and of course profit margins. Why the hell do companies make products and sell at cost. They aren't running charity and yes they want to have profit margin

Of course there are different models of making money. Sell hardware as commodity and make money thru ads and services on phone. But that's mostly Chinese phone makers who go for that model and sure there are exceptions where companies make lesser profit margin to begin with so that they can get market share or they aren't in position to demand high prices. At the end going by material cost of the phone is silly and there are lot more factors that go into the cost.
At least in my opinion.

Dead on...

True. Don’t have those numbers to prove or disprove. But two of the biggest companies in the world and Samsung one of the biggest global manufacturers in the world, I can’t imagine a huge disadvantage in other costs added in like r and d and marketing and labor, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if at the end of day it those costs were a wash between the two. But yes, I have nothing to base it on.

Dead on...

Here in Ireland there is two websites that people usually flog phones on, selling carrier upgrades to get the money etc.
Normally both sites are flooded with new models but this time I have seen just one S20 Ultra 128gb on one of the two sites, no other models at all.

I think a lot of people are waiting to pull the trigger so to speak because they want to see a price drop. I'm on a Samsung forever program so I jumped as soon as I could... and I'm in love with this phone. when I was at my local sprint store to upgrade my husband's phone there was a lot of people there for the galaxy devices... so we shall see only time will tell.

Why are any of you guys paying this much money for a phone? It's just overspeced hardware that you'll never begin to utilize, and for lots it'll probably go in a drawer next year and be a ton of wasted money when you pick up next year's version. And most of you won't even get to use the 5G you're paying extra for :-[

There really is a lot better things you could spend $1500 on... for you or even for your family ;-)

I guess I'm just a cheap skate..... last year's flagship for half price will keep me happy for several years to come lol.

I kinda like my Note 9 with a headphone jack and rear fingerprint reader that still takes great pictures and offers all day battery life.

No need to waste so much money especially when they value my phone at only $300, LMAO.

I guess there is a sucker born every minute and those are the people that keep these companies making mountains of cash.

Preach it brother!! ;-)

With all of the trade-ins & rebates, almost no one on here paid full retail price. Next year, I'll just trade it in for an S21.

I'm getting steady 5G reception in my home area, I get better 4G reception at work (previous S10+ couldn't get a signal inside the building), and the battery life is better (64% left after a full 8.5 hour workday).

Other than autofocus (manual focus seems fine to me), the typical Samsung issues with smoothing & zoom past 30x being terrible in most cases, this phone is great.

You're right, there's things like purposely slowing down phones with "updates" to force people to update sooner, and then getting slapped with a class action and hit to your reputation. Or using substandard parts on your "premium flagship model" and getting hit with multiple class actions for being a scumbag company multiple times..... which usually happens when you use the cheapest Chinese parts and labor on phones you want to try and sell in the American market as premium.

There is definitely other factors that go into the cost of making/selling phones... most of which I don't trust or respect. The modern phone industry is very similar to the modern car industry.... and none of it good :-[

Both galaxy s-series, and note series are basically identical in specs each year, besides s-pen and screen size being the main difference. Idk why note fans always feel the need to think that the note series is the best Samsung phone. I knw plenty of people who have galaxy phones - no one i knw has a note
There are some saying that the note series may even get discontinued.

I agree. There's a slight variation in specs, but not enough to warrant a completely different line.

With 200 $ credit and trade in my ultra 128 cost me 660
I traded in S10+. And got freebies
No complaints here
I am enjoying my ultra

You forgot to tell which model is this in reference to?

I'm glad it's a complete flop and I waited out . New deals are in the horizon like a true BOGO. A lousy Samsung credit to buy overpriced accessories wasn't enough to sway me. A quick look at swappa will show brand new phones going in for over $200 off MSRP.

WON'T BE LONG BEFORE I CAN SCOOP UP A S20 FOR $600

If it's a complete flop why on earth would you buy it at all? Just curious

Because it is not a terrible phone it is terribly overpriced.

A big reason why this phone is not going to sell well.

meh.. Premium/flagship/high-end phones are always priced very high. If people have to complain about the pricing (which happens every launch) then they do have cheaper models for their price range. Just wait until the iPhone 12 with 5G price is released. Not going to be any cheaper than the ultra - I will bet on that. And I am sorry - but the ultra is a great phone. I like the camera, and with the updates it will get better, just like the s10 did.

Can someone TLDR this thread for me?

Flop or not?

I believe for Samsung the launch is definitely a flop. The phone it's self is not bad at all.
Sure, the Ultra's camera has a slight focus/hunting problem and the price is mighty high, but it's a fantastic phone overall.
For me the FPS actually works way better than the ones on the S10+ and Note 10+ did.

Just call me the "Green Bubble Boy" for at least the next 6 months :p

Well it's seems to be a downward trend with last few released of high end phones so it's hard to say it's a flop or just the current natural progression of things. I guess if we had a spreadsheet of the 3 or 4 years of all pre-order high end phones it might paint a better picture. Also, are we just seeing a pre-order flop with higher sales shifting post release?
