Kind of interesting that we're all giddy about a feature that many/most of us have had in our previous phone. Whether it's LG's Always on Display, Samsung's Ambient Display, or Moto's Active Notifications/ Active Display.

Coming from Moto I'll personally miss wave-to-wake. - Gravity app is doing that now. Heck, it's even possible I'll stick with Gravity if the new software isn't up to par.

Ambient Display, which traditionally has included raise to wake, has been on Nexus phones for a couple years as well - it's obviously in Nougat as well, but wasn't functioning as desired for a lot of people on the Pixels.

i guess they didnt have the time to have that feature at launch.

its better to wait and have it implemented properly rather than work half the time

Battery killer?

Since the feature was built into the aforementioned phones, there's really no Baseline to be sure. But it doesn't seem to have made any major effect that I think anybody would comment on.

I personally don't think raise to wake is going to be anymore of a battery killer then picking up your phone by using the finger print scanner

But the Pixel isn't a nexus. I believe raise to wake simply wasn't included originally. Which is why the gravity app became so important to pixel users. Looks like google heard the complaints, so they added it back along with the double tap to wake feature.

Sure, I meant to say that it's built into Android, including on the Pixels (ambient display, not DDTW) and was for some reason not properly functioning on Pixels.

If only they had the power to miraculously make another speaker fill the other bottom port, it would really round this device out

With no home button / fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone (I am not a fan of that design choice), tap to wake is pretty handy. I sideloaded the canadian OTA yesterday and very happy wih the way its working so far.

It doesn't include wave to wake does it?

I tried the gravity app. Wave to wake was sketchy at best, wouldn't work all the time and wasn't consistent. The app was also misbehaving when trying to take a photo from a certain height (mobile check deposit for instance) and kept turning my screen off. I uninstalled it. I did like the drop on table to make it go to sleep option, that was nice.

Wave works perfect for me. Same with the camera though, where it turns off when I look at pictures

I think that it can be a battery killer because you'll find your phone is making calls while in your pocket and it tends to stay on many times when unintended. That annoys the hell out of me. I won't be using raise to wake or knock knock. I just think they're gimmicks and totally unnecessary. You'll know you have notifications by the flashing LED. And, 99%of the time when we see a flashing LED, we will completely unlock the device and either clear the notification or respond. In either case, it makes raise to wake inconsequential. IMHO! LOL!
