Go to a Verizon store? Post your thoughts here!

I went today myself to look. I seriously can't see this blue tint. Not sure if it matters, but I have 20/20 vision and not color blind. Haha. I like the phone a lot, feels really good in my hand. One thing I like is the new metal coating the use. Some people thinks it makes it feel plastic, but I like it. It actually makes the phone a lot easier to hold, not slippery like the original pixel xl. Sometimes I do use my phone without a case, and always feel like the phone is going to fall out of my hand. This will make holding the phone so much easier.

That's great you don't see it, but most of us did. When most of us see the same issue, it is a legitimate concern.

I vaguely remember a new phone allows people with polarized sunglasses clear view of the screen. Is that the new Pixel2/2XL? I can't remember where I learned that information..maybe some YouTuber. I wonder if it is related.

Now that you mention it, they did mention a circular polarizer built into the display that allowed viewing with sunglasses on. I wonder if that is what's causing some people to see this effect...

Or cataracts maybe. :D

I've been to 2 Verizon stores. I see a sleight blue tint beyond 45 degree tilt, a complete non issue to me. But then blue is one of my favorite colors.

Come on 18th-19th!

Every phone ever released has threads on tint issues and in the end they rarely end up being a real issue or mattering to most people.

The blue tint is not just at "severe" angle. You tilt it slightly the color shifts. Screens are important in a phone just my 0.02.

Not sure why people down play such a glaring differences between 2 and 2XL.

I have never seen a Samsung phone do that. The current Pixel does not have this issue.

I am on your side with this! I did go to the store knowing that people have stated he blue tint issue, so I was looking for it. The slightest tilt of the phone, the colors change. Never had this happen to any other android device I’ve owned before, including the original pixel. I also think the phone feels super cheap it’s almost too lightweight for my liking. I was not comfortable holding it. Even though the pixel 2 has bezels still, this device felt much more comfortable and screen quality looked much better compared to the XL 2. For whatever reason, I felt like the screen looked plasticky to me. This would have been the first 18:9 ration device I bought and it is REALLY tall. I don’t really find it necessary to be that tall in a cell phone. Glad I saw it in person because I cancelled my preorder for someone else to hopefully grab!

Well I popped into VZ as well. I noticed the blue tint on the XL vs the regular. It did not bother me seeing I do not view the screen at such an angle. But I do understand the disappointment seeing we are paying $900 for a phone, we want it to be perfect. I loved the new coating on the back, much more grip than smooth metal.

Now I know looks are subjective but I thought the front of XL was very odd looking, almost goofy and comical. Did not like it at all! It looks like they made the the screens to small or the frame to big and someone said “heck with it, we can make it work” and slapped them together. The regular pixel 2 surprisingly looked very classy. Did not expect this.

Glad I went in and checked them out, going to cancel my black 64gb XL. May order the regular pixel 2, but unsure. The V30 was really nice, but only if I had the Pixel software...

I too did not like the look of the pixel XL2, it had an awkward look with the curved edges and the rounded corners...just didn’t look right to me!

I too was extremely impressed with the pixel 2, just hate to buy another phone with chunky bezels since most devices are now steering away from that.

Btw, for everyone who can’t see the blue tint...I found a great 13 second video on YT demonstrating it right next to the pixel 2!

I had the exact thought as you when I held the 2XL. My immediate reaction was "WTH something looks odd here" followed by "I thought the bezel is suppose to be smaller than the 2".

Ok so when you look at your phone from an angle you'll never use it looks tinted. Got it..🙄🙄🙄🙄

Your right, if it was only seen at a severe angle no big deal. But it doesn't only happen at severe angles, it happens at even the slightest angle. For a premium device it should not do that.

The note 8 does this on some devices too (mine included). When you tilt it it has a blue shift but then it goes away until you get to an extreme angle. There may be a technical reason for it related to OLED. (But there's also the fact that not every pixel that people have seen does it, so it may just be panel by panel basis)

I didn't see anything in that video posted earlier, unless you tilt it on to it's sides and are looking at the chamfered edges head on, but who does that? No one. I think people are over reacting to demo units. Just wait until you get your phone, then you have 30 days to decide if you want it or not.

Where did you see it was 30 days? Appears to be 15 on their website.

For any angle I would actually use my phone from, the XL looks fine to me.

I went to my local corporate Verizon store and immediately found the very prominent Pixel 2 display. They had a Google Home speaker playing music pretty loud, and it actually sounded pretty good. I found that to be pretty impressive, but I digress.

I found the larger of the 2 phones and started playing with it. I was messing with it for a good 5 minutes before I realized it was an OG Pixel XL, not a Pixel 2 XL. In my defense, I've never held a Pixel of any sort before today.

I asked the CSR if they had any of the 2XLs, he said they did in the back. It turns out that this particular store couldn't get the XLs to charge through their security dongles.

Once he brought out the Pixel 2 XL I was able to inspect it, and I did in fact see the blue tint. I strongly disagree with those who say it appears at "the slightest angle". I would estimate that the tint didn't change until I brought the display to at least 15 degrees off normal. Would the blue tint bother me? Not even a little. When I'm looking at my phone I look straight at it. Would it bother some? Well, obviously it does.

In my mind, the display is in fact behaving as a polarized display would, and I believe that the circular polarizer is what's causing this phenomenon. Of course, if this bothers you it probably won't matter what is causing the issue, but that's what it appears to be to me.

So the bottom line is, if this bothers you you'll have to rethink your purchase of an XL. I personally don't think it will bother most people.

Apart from the change in tint, the display looked fabulous to me. It was bright, crisp, sharp, the colors nicely defined, not over saturated. Close to perfect in my estimation.

I didn't have any issues with the feel of the coating on the aluminum back, the entire phone felt plenty premium to me, though it's not really a fair test since all of the various cables and security dongles were still attached. I loved the feel and the look of this phone.

The front facing speakers sounded great. They won't replace my home speakers anytime soon, but they sounded great for speakers in a phone.

My experience did not make me want to cancel my pre-order for even for a femtosecond. If anything I'm more eager than ever to get my phone in my hands.

If the blue tint is going to be an issue for you then you may want to go see a phone in person.

While I was at the Verizon Store I took the opportunity to buy a tempered glass screen protector for my eagerly awaited Pixel 2 XL. When it arrives it won't be naked for long...

Does anyone think a screen protector, glass or not might be able to combat the blue tint? I couldn't see the screen of my htc 10 when i wore polarized sunglasses but when i put a screen protector, i was able to see it. So hopefully a screen protector would help with the blue tint.
