Go to a Verizon store? Post your thoughts here!

I currently have the Nexus 6p and was going to upgrade to the P2xl but am now questioning that after seeing them today in the VZW store. The P2xl was almost the exact same size as my 6p and I was hoping it would be a little smaller. I was most impressed with the V30. I have owned almost every Nexus device in the past but I'm a little bummed I wasn't as impressed with the P2xl as I hoped.

Same size with a bigger screen. So smaller.

I went to the Verizon store and I paly with both the smaller Pixel 2 and 2xl. I have an order for the black and white 2XL with Verizon. I don't care about locked bootloaders, I have not rooted a phone in a few years.

I like both phones. I'm getting my 2xl from Verizon by the end of the month and then I ordered the smaller white Pixel 2 from Google, just in case i am not completely in love with the 2xl. The Google phone arrives in 4 to 5 weeks. I'm looking forward to going back to stock Android.

I went to my local corporate Verizon store and immediately found the very prominent Pixel 2 display. They had a Google Home speaker playing music pretty loud, and it actually sounded pretty good. I found that to be pretty impressive, but I digress.

I found the larger of the 2 phones and started playing with it. I was messing with it for a good 5 minutes before I realized it was an OG Pixel XL, not a Pixel 2 XL. In my defense, I've never held a Pixel of any sort before today.

I asked the CSR if they had any of the 2XLs, he said they did in the back. It turns out that this particular store couldn't get the XLs to charge through their security dongles.

Once he brought out the Pixel 2 XL I was able to inspect it, and I did in fact see the blue tint. I strongly disagree with those who say it appears at "the slightest angle". I would estimate that the tint didn't change until I brought the display to at least 15 degrees off normal. Would the blue tint bother me? Not even a little. When I'm looking at my phone I look straight at it. Would it bother some? Well, obviously it does.

In my mind, the display is in fact behaving as a polarized display would, and I believe that the circular polarizer is what's causing this phenomenon. Of course, if this bothers you it probably won't matter what is causing the issue, but that's what it appears to be to me.

So the bottom line is, if this bothers you you'll have to rethink your purchase of an XL. I personally don't think it will bother most people.

Apart from the change in tint, the display looked fabulous to me. It was bright, crisp, sharp, the colors nicely defined, not over saturated. Close to perfect in my estimation.

I didn't have any issues with the feel of the coating on the aluminum back, the entire phone felt plenty premium to me, though it's not really a fair test since all of the various cables and security dongles were still attached. I loved the feel and the look of this phone.

The front facing speakers sounded great. They won't replace my home speakers anytime soon, but they sounded great for speakers in a phone.

My experience did not make me want to cancel my pre-order for even for a femtosecond. If anything I'm more eager than ever to get my phone in my hands.

If the blue tint is going to be an issue for you then you may want to go see a phone in person.

Thanks for the info. Good to hear.

I did not notice the blue until I rewatched the video. I agree with everyone here about that would not bother me either.

I saw that you posted you cancelled your 2xl order and got the small pixel 2. What phone do you have now and are you worried about battery life?

Re: Just tested pixel 2 and 2 xl at verizon store (my thoughts)

I'm a big fan of blue as a color.... Kind of blue us meh. It's a weird faded light blueish gray. I put a case on my phones so as long as the front is the color I want (black) I'll choose whichever phone I can get quickest. I wanted the panda but went black. I'll never see the color of the back anyway

Gothcha. Thanks

I'm hoping one of the carriers up here has it in Kinda Blue so I can check it out in person.

I checked out the phone at another verizon store and took a video of the blue tint issue.

Here's a video:

https://youtu.be/KtwgJHhY90Q

The blue tint doesn't just occur at extreme angles, it occurs at small angles too though not as pronounced as at 45 deg or more angles. I compared it to the pixel xl and the regular xl didn't have the issue. I also think the regular xl screen is better due to the vivid colors though the 2 xl probably has a sharper screen.

This looks like it wouldn't bother me at all. Actually in this video I prefer it and see kind of a yellow tint to the Pixel 2. I Prefer the XL here. I know this is not gonna be an issue for me with the 2 XL.

Hopefully the video exaggerates the tint but that would be unacceptable for me at the price they are charging, even if it didn't bother me.

Well... I went to Verizon stores the last 2 days to continue my check of the Pixel XL2. If you look back at the first pages of this thread, you will find my opinion about the phone, which many of you disagree with and few others agree with my opinion. Putting that aside, I did not mention the blue tint when the phone is at certain angles, why? because that's software, and google will fix it in no time. They are the software Maestros, so there is no issues with that, but I found that many of you been ******** about it like no tomorrow. However my original statement about the lack of phone premium feel, materials finish, and wow factor are reinforced after my last 2 days visits to Verizon stores. First of all I understand that most of us are Google enthusiast, but having said that, some of you can not cover the sun with a single finger, statements like I put a back cover, IDK about the finish, etc, etc, are plain BS ,IMHO, why? because a $1000 phone are suppose to be the best in all fronts, we can not deny the hardware shortcomings because of the software and updates leadership. Why I will have to settle for an average cheap hardware as a trade for the best software and pay premium price? This phone in my hands feels like a cheap below medium range $300.00 phone, that's unacceptable. Some of you said that the back aluminum panel has a coat of powder coating, I agree with that , but at least they can choose a better quality powder coating finish, been working in powder coating for many years of my life, so definitely that powder coating finish it's not the best to be polite. Look at my avatar and there you will see top notch powder coating. Now about the stereo speakers, my current single speaker Pixel XL sounds much better that the "stereo" LG XL2 speakers, period, way below the quality sound of my real stereo speakers of my HTC M8, I like to hear phone music, with no headphones, hence my complaint, I do have a set of high end headphones, but that's not the point that I discuss, I'm talking about OEM equipped speakers, and in that department they are far away of what I was expecting. I love the phone, but we have to be realistic, not fanatics, and my $1000.00+ expenditure deserves a complete package. One good hardware example is the Essential phone made out of titanium and ceramic, with a proper bezel less screen display, that's what I like for hardware for a top of the line Pixel. Can Google do it? off course they can. Let's see how the Pixel 3 evolves next year. In the meantime my inferior Pixel XL can do a decent job for the next 12 months.

Here is a picture between the Pixel 2 XL and the original Pixel XL:

The 2 xl doesn't seem to have deeper and more vivid colors than the old xl even though both displays are oled. I also noticed that the v30's p-oled display is more vivid than the 2 pixel.

you know what I am thinking? the attachment on the Pixel 2 XL at VZW probably was the cause of the awkward feeling in the hand.

I went to my Verizon store to check them out. Spent more time with the xl as that's what I pre-ordered. I really like the design. They only had the black not the panda phone. But the black looked really nice. It feels great in hand. Liked the thinness of the phone. My wife has the pixel xl and this definitely fits nicer in the hand. Thinner and more narrow. I did try portrait on both cameras (front and back). On the back camera it worked flawlessly, but I'm no photographer. I took a few different pictures. You can see the blur on the screen prior to taking the picture. On the front facing camera though, as I was taking a selfie, I did not notice the blur effect when taking the picture. But after I took the picture, the background was indeed blurry and looked really good. It seems like the front facing portrait processes the blurred background after the fact but I could have been mistaken. It was a quick shot and I was pretty sure it did not show prior because I was like, "this isn't working". Lol. But it did. And looked great. Can't wait to get this thing in my hands for good.

I wonder how the back of the panda phone will feel compared to the black xl? I bet it will feel different.

When I looked at the phones in the store, I thought the black finish had a nice feel to it. The blue display phone felt cheap and like plastic. I'm happy because I ordered black but I'm wondering which feel the white will have. My money is on plastic and smooth like the blue one.

Why would it feel different? They are both going to have the same coating on them.

The backs of many phones have a different type of coating for the different colors. Some of the nexus phones for example had different feels for different colors.

The blue Pixel 2 was one of the demos and it felt different to me than the Black Pixel 2 and felt smoother.

That's some crazy supposition there. How do know it's not a limitation of the hardware? And even if you are correct about this, you're stacking on another wild assumption that Google would issue a fix in "no time".
