Google Messages vs. Samsung Messages: What's your preference and why?

I prefer Android Messages and heres why:

- Ability to archive messages (for work I text about 15 people at the same time and it helps me stay organized)
- RCS which Verizon doesn't support in the Samsung app
- Ability to text from my computer
- The interface is clean and not ugly like Samsung's
Those are good reasons too

Since I have a watch and tablet I'm only able to use Samsung messages to sync across all devices, but I have no major issues with their messages app. Would be nice to have rcs though since all my friends use galaxy devices.

I like Google messages over Samsung messages:

1. Web access and on my tablet I even have a shortcuts so it looks like an app.
2. It's easy to copy 2FA codes. A popup comes up when it detects a 2FA code and you just click to copy to clipboard.
3. Renaming conversations (groups).
4. RCS, this is minimal because not a lot of people have Google messages installed, so it only works with a few people.
5. Spam filter, caught some political messages for me this weekend. That was nice.

I am on Verizon, but I don't really text THAT much, so impact is minimal. I mostly get 2FA texts.

I use Samsung messages over Google for several reasons.

1. It has conversation mode
2. You can pin conversations to the top
3. You can categorise your messages
4. It follows my phone theme
5. It is super fast
6. Works well with dual sim
7. It isn't clunky
8. My version runs RCS and backs up my RCS messages to Samsung cloud. Google messages doesn't backup RCS messages properly.

Those are my reasons. Google Messages has messages for Web which is handy, but if I am wanting to use my phone features in a desktop mode I use Dex anyway.

The fact that it follows your phon's theme is phenomenal.

Anyone having issues on the note 20 ultra using Google messages and not able to send hi quality videos? It'd all grainy. Bad. My friend can do it to others with it but not with me.

I always send links the images are better and the receptiant can choose to keep or trash. This is where apple shines on the iPhone.

Yeah just my friend said he does it all the time with other android friends with Google messages and it works just not with me.

Been using Samsung Messages lately, like that I can send a link to my full resolution picture or video. Or I can choose to let it compress them.

I was wondering how you choose to not have the Messages app compress your pictures? I am having my pictures compressed by half (AT&T phone). My daughters on a Note 20, and hers aren't compressed but mine are. It takes many minutes for my picture to go thru - even if it isn't the full (108mg) resolution photo, it tries to compress them even further and takes forever to send. I am having the same problem receiving photos. My N20U is trying to compress picture, and many won't even go thru at all? Any thoughts?

Been using the Samsung Messages app a lot lately because of its extra features. It also works better on the Fold 2.

When you select to send a photo, on the bottom right is there a small cloud looking icon that says on/off?

I've used Samsung Messages for a while now. I have no need for RCS as only receive messages from maybe 2 people that I actually respond to.

With the You Phone app on Windows 10 and the Note 20, you can text from your PC. I use WhatsApp for family group chats when needed.

No, when I add the picture, either from the picture icon or the + icon, nothing that looks like a cloud. Ever once in a while I saw an icon that looked like 100%? But, I can't seem to make it happen again. But, even when I did see it, it still compressed done like 2/3rds. I did fine a post that suggested that the fact that I am on a AT&T phone, could be why it won't send the picture or MMS. In that post they suggested to turn of the WIFi, and when I do it does send the text with the picture. Strange huh? But it still compresses the picture at least 2/3rd, and is not very clear. As I said, my Daughters Note 20 doesn't compress down. When she sends a picture that is 4000x3000 it comes thru that way, but my N20U, sends it like 1200x900? I am very disappointed in that.

Google messages, just my preference. I tend to like most of Google's software. I do wish the edge lighting notifications worked with google messages, though.

I've wanted to use g-messages but without scheduled send it was a deal breaker (and I didn't want to install an app just for that) so i used samsung. i just got the scheduled messages...and now realize that like someone mentioned earlier, there's no pin to top feature. Which means to send a text to my immediate family it's either find an older text or go through the motions of starting a new text. hmmm...
I'll give g-messages a shot though to see how much of a deal breaker the lack of pinning is with text msgs.

Google messages for RCS on unlocked, samsung for it's customization ,I switch back and forth
