Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

Some people are reporting that Verizon won't carry this till late Jan/Feb. If thats true then this is even worse than we thought.

If that source doesn't work a d or c street job for Google or Verizon, I'd ignore them. If the Play Store device works on Verizon out of the box...

Yes but can't Verizon simply block imei's of phones that weren't sold through them? If so it wouldn't matter if the phone technically works, it might still be blocked from working on their network.

Yes they could, but they typically approach it from a white-list approach and will rarely target a specific device that way. The Nexus 7 LTE works on Verizon and pretty much always has - you just couldn't buy it directly from them and had to use an existing "line" of service.

Then they might as well block all the iPhones that were bought in an Apple Store. I would only see them blocking IMEI's of devices that were bought at a carrier specific store such as T-Mo or Sprint.

Just curious, how does the Moto X/VZW work then if you buy a Moto X unlocked from Motorola/Moto Maker sites? Isn't buying a N6 from the PlayStore following the same scenario? I know several people who bought their unlocked Moto X from Moto Maker website and didn't even have to step foot into a VZW store to activate.

Again, maybe N6 is going to work differently, just curious...thanks!

Re: Google Nexus 6 voice and data

Are the problems with simultaneous voice and data limited to certain carriers? More specifically, is it a problem with AT&T?

No.. It is a CDMA problem. The galaxy s3 and the note 3 were the last to do voice and data on the sprint network.

Thanks for clearing that up. So basically a problem for Sprint and Verizon?

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

2 Signs the Nexus 6 will not be a Nexus on Verizon

When you boot the Nexus 6 up on Verizon and you see a splash screen that says "Verizon" you are not holding a Nexus in your hand.

When you have to buy your Nexus 6 from Verizon and not the Play Store you are not buying a Nexus.

Let's face it most of us lived through the VZW Samsung Galaxy Nexus debacle.....why if this happens will it be any different? That is why I switched to AT&T and will never look back.

Hahaha... Classic.

But you bought the Verizon (branded) version of the Moto x or the at&t or sprint branded versions. Or the GSM unlocked non branded version which doesn't work on Verizon/Sprint. So far everyone is assuming one Nexus 6 on all carriers. Which isn't written in stone at least as far as Verizon is concerned.

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

L has special code to detect the carrier the phone/sim belongs to, and download software/bloatware specific to that carrier as part of the setup process. This was covered in the Ars interview with execs.

And thus this confirms that it is possible to make the phone behave differently based on where you bought it and who you activate it with. So lets please stop with the 'its one model so it will be the same' theory.

Yes. CDMA requires two antennas to provide voice and data at the same time whereas GSM only requires one.

Some good news is that all phones that include the Snapdragon 800 or newer include VoLTE and some phones from LG, Samsung, and Apple now provide voice/data simultaneously on Verizon.

Wow... There is A LOT of paranoia in this thread. Some of it is plausible. Some of it makes me wonder if your pharmacists work outside.

This... I feel bad for those less informed that stumble upon this thread and actually believe some of the stuff posted here.

If I understand correctly, however, even if the phone has VoLTE, as it moves from one area to another the VoLTE might not be supported, so the phone call may be disconnected when moving into an area without VoLTE support. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct. It's like driving down a highway and going through dead spots, but with LTE.

Haha, so true. People are overreacting to the Nexus 6 announcement and preorder.

Re: Google Nexus 6 voice and data

Ever since Verizon started 4G, I can do voice and data at the same time. On Android anyways. VOLTE and such are possibly something else.

Re: Google Nexus 6 voice and data

The IPhone 5s could do voice and data and is not enabled on VOLTE. All Verizon 4g LTE phones can do voice and data at the same time (minus the original iPhone 5). VOLTE is a whole other thing. Yes it causes problems with calls because if you hit a non Verizon 4G LTE area VOLTE calls will drop. But as someone stated above VOLTE only works with other VOLTE enabled phones on Verizon.
