re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

They said this with the N5. All they have to do is add the imei and it'll work. You'll have to go to a corporate store most likely. Don't ever trust an online tech, they know nothing

When I got my Nexus 5 from the play store I had to call the Sprint technical support line... took a good hour but eventually you get to someone who submits a ticket to add the IMEI to the system... then it takes 24 - 48 hours for the phone to be able to be activated on their network. I am going to guess it will be the same way with the Nexus 6 and Sprint (if you bought from the play store)

For whatever reason I heard from several people if you bought your phone outright from T-Mobile and then wanted to switch to Sprint they wouldn't activate those IMEI #'s.... Just something to think about if you are going to try and get one from T-Mobile and take it to Sprint (or Verizon)

Re: When will the play store allow more orders for the N6?

Ha well if you're spending $649 already I don't think the extra $50 is where your problems lay.

I've given up on the play store for now... I'll only circle back to the Play Store if the carrier stores are just flat sold out come November 12.....

Yeah $50 shouldn't be that big of a deal... Tax alone is going to be $50 - 60.... When they first announced it and before the preorder date there were people wanting to preorder from Motorola instead because it was going to "Save" them $15 in shipping charges....

I'll probably get the 32 GB and "SAVE" $50 because I just don't use up that much memory.. I don't play a lot of games (matter of fact I don't even have a single game on my phone) and I stream a lot of content.. I upgraded to the 32 GB Nexus 5 last year and currently have 22 GB free of the 26 available after the OS..... Can't imagine I'll be making 4K video's since I don't even own a 4K TV (and still feel 4K full adoption is a good 2 years away at minimum).... I have my device set to auto upload all my pictures to my home computer when it latches on to my WiFi at home and then usually clear out what is on the device anyway....

At time of preorder I would have gotten 64 GB if that was all that was available because it's just $50... T-Mobile says they will have the 32 GB in stores on November 12 and if they do that is what I'll buy... If there is an outrageous line and or they sell out I'll order online and if the 64 is all they have I'll order it.......

but $50 shouldn't even be a big deal when it comes to "I have a mortgage/rent and bills to pay."

Re: When will the play store allow more orders for the N6?

Moar Gee-Beez. 32 GB is probably enough for me as I'm currently using a 16 GB phone, but if I'm going big, might as well go all the way. It'll be nice not to worry when I'm taking lots of photos and videos on vacation.

In the course of that thread I linked, which is an *****'s guide to customer service exasperation, customers were indicating similar difficulty at the store. If Sprint is not educating its front-line associates (web-, phone-, and retail-based) on the steps necessary to accommodate a user in that situation in order to grow (or retain) their business, then the vast majority of people who are less educated than we strive to be on the matter will simply take what they are told as gospel and return the device or go to another carrier.

Mostly this was towards the point that Sprint can, at a minimum, make customers go through extensive hurdles to sign on with a Nexus product even from the Play store, and may or may not allow devices from other carriers.

Re: When will the play store allow more orders for the N6?

It's more when you factor in sales tax and shipping

It's also worth more should you decide to sell it down the road, especially should as the 'standard' minimum memory on new devices continues to climb.

and they just announced 2,000 more employees are going to lose their jobs at Sprint.. so I can't imagine their customer service is going to get that much better any time soon..... They got a big hole to climb out of....

When you have a mortgage and really shouldn't be buying a new phone to begin with.

LMAO...dumbest post of the year my friend! If your already paying that much for a phone, it's not going to matter if you have mortgage. HAHAHA

Read all of that thread on Sprint's forum. Posters are reporting that if a phone wasn't purchased directly from the Play Store or Sprint, that Sprint will NOT allow the phone. Perhaps there are people who have had success and they aren't complaining, but I purchased directly from the Play Store and wouldn't risk purchasing from T-Mobile intending to bring that phone to Sprint.

Re: When will the play store allow more orders for the N6?

You are going to have a more wide range of potential customers with a used 64 GB vs 32 GB.... but actual getting more for it? Technically yes but you also paid more for it too... In a year to 18 months you probably won't have too many issues selling the 32 GB used..... and you'll probably get the extra $50 back out of the 64 GB when you go to sell it in a year or two...... In a year when the next version comes out you'll probably be able to get $400 - 450 used..... if you wait two years you'll be lucky to get $250 back out it regardless of storage capacity..... Could still be a decent little down payment on a new device.....

I think it's a pretty safe bet that someone looking to sell a 32GB model in comparable condition to ones being sold w/ 64GB will have to ask for less regardless of the age of the devices. One might not be able to expect the full $50 difference, but even if you wait 2 years and the 32GB is selling for $250, the 64 GB would still likely command $275 - meaning your total effective difference in cost of ownership is only $25 (well, ok, a small tax difference as well).

If you are sure you won't have need of the extra storage, no point in getting it. But if you think you might, or that you'll have to restrict yourself to make 32GB work, it's well worth considering.

You have to decide which device you want and which device serves your immediate need and usage patterns... Some people need more storage... For $50 I'd just get the 64 GB... but I am also perfectly okay with the 32 GB as well as my needs don't require me to have 64 GB..

Your earlier point was the 64 GB would also be worth more should you decide to sell it down the road... which technically is both true and not..... If you spend $50 more (plus as you stated the added buck or two in tax) just on the premise you'll be able to sell it for more in a year or two but in reality you only get $25 - 50 more when you resell it your either out an extra $25 or breaking even on the deal....

which is all crazy talk to start with... $50 shouldn't be a deciding factor here at all.... here in Texas after sales tax the difference is going to be $54.49 between the two devices.... What 8% of the total cost of the device? I know some people have tighter wallets than others.... As has been stated before if $50 is that big of a deal for you then just MAYBE you shouldn't be buying a $700+ device....

Technically you can't. You can request a PUK code and that will unlock your phone. Then your should be able to move around as long as the radio supports a certain carriers bands

Well, yes, you're only getting back part of your investment, but that's my point - you are getting back part of it. So while it's $50 up front, your total cost of ownership of the device, assuming you eventually sell it while there's still some market demand, is not $50 more but probably somewhere closer to around $25. The device is worth more, no matter how you look at it. I didn't mean to imply that it was a better investment that would net you greater than a $50 difference at point of future sale.

And yep, the deciding factor should be what one needs. If I couldn't envision a scenario where I'd be hindered by only having 32GB, I'd go with it. As it stands, I've been in a situation where I was, so the 64GB is a no-brainer. And as you point out, the cost of the additional memory as a % of device cost is not significant - the reality is that it is a substantially percentage of cost than the memory upgrade had been for the Nexus 5.

PUK code would only be required if the phone is carrier-locked by the carrier whose service you want to leave. While it is not confirmed if any Nexus will or will not be locked to their issuing carrier, the concern here is largely about whether a carrier might choose to decline to activate a phone, even if it is unlocked and fully compatible with their network, if it is not in their database of 'approved' IMEI's.

Re: When will the play store allow more orders for the N6?

you are getting back part of it

If you can live with 32 GB put the $50 in a regular savings account at the bank and in two years you'll have $50.03 (guesstimation).... a true net gain on your $50 investment... :p

At the end of the day there is no way to know what a 1 or 2 year old Nexus 6 will sell for used even in Mint condition.... So we are just guessing what the return would be.... so the $50 "Investment" shouldn't be part of the equation... You either need or don't need 64.... and you know if you do or not.... If you don't know... You don't....
