Google selling pixel phones

You know I've seen this sentiment about the Nexus project a time or two since the Pixel initial launch in '16. I've always viewed the Nexus project as no more than that .. a project. It's time came to fruition and Google Hardware was officially born.

But many feel as you both have touched on. That Nexus should've been continued and perhaps even allowed to be fully fleshed out as an official brand under Google i.e. including on the books.

If anything, I think it should have stayed as either an inexpensive entry level Android device, or a developer phone.

Yeah I have a soft spot for the Nexus line , and didn't want to see it go . I understood they needed something to show case them to have branded phone and that came about with the pixel. The Nexus line could of ruined that happening but just did want to Nexus line go away .

Alright, so if you're Sundar Pichai... you got your developers conference next week.. You just held your quarterlies and your numbers ain't what bad, but they ain't great either... You giving a keynote and 99% chance announcing hardware with Osterloh in tow ..

What's the message around Pixel brand with these 3a's coming out?

I'd almost guess they are trying to reduce the number of Android One devices. Have a really inexpensive one, brand that Android One, and the rest be Pixels.

Thats bad news for the manufacturers on it , probably hurt their sales .

One of the mistakes I mentioned earlier of the Pixel 3 -- something Google can easily fix in the Pixel 4 if they really want to increase sales -- is the RAM:

Google Pixel 3 owners are still facing problems 6 months later, here’s the list

It's better than it was at launch, but it's still a recurring problem that I've experienced myself. This should be a no-brainer fix later this year. Google should squash this worry flat with 6GB optimized with software. I get all smartphones have their few issues here and there; this doesn't have to be one of them for Google.

I'm sure pixel 4 will come with 6gb ram at least , just like anything else specs do have to go up at some point, iPhone couldn't stay with 2gb ram forever .

I think they'll frame it pretty much like how all the other major players with mid-range devices have framed it: a "near-full" experience at a more entry-level price so that everyone can enjoy the Google Pixel experience.

Given the Pixel 3a price leaks and features, I'd say it's not looking bad (strictly talking about value and features. My opinions about the design are another story). It gives me hope that Google could get the Pixel 4 right.

This is the heart of Nexus still beating. Something I think that shouldn't have been cancelled. I can understand a name change. I'm honestly thinking of picking this up, if only to give some sales numbers to a device that is actually more in line with what I want than anything else. I probably would have bought this as opposed to the standard 3....however, my 1st gen Pixel wouldn't have been able to stand up to the additional 6 months of use. No way.

Does this mean I am unhappy with the Pixel 3 original purchase? No. Absolutely not. Given the exact same conditions, I would have bought it.

Funny thing is I hated when they changed the name to pixel. I thought it was a ridiculous name for a phone.

I believe the increase in RAM is already in the works. Will that alone generate big numbers?... doubtful.

By the way, I've been running a Pixel 3XL side by side with a Samsung S10 + 8GB mode since the S10 came out and there is no percievable difference in the way these devices operate on a daily basis. Of course the S10 has the potential to hold more apps in memory without reloading as often, but again no noticable difference in day to day operation. I might lose a second here or there but if I can't tell does it make a difference?

It's quite frustrating when my music player randomly stops playing music when I'm in other apps or when I'm mid-level in a game but have to stop playing only to come back to it later in the day to see it's refreshed and I have to start the level over again. All this happens too often on my Pixel 3.

This didn't need to be a problem. Like I said in my earlier post, nevermind the amount of RAM in the competition. The Pixel 3 in itself deserves more RAM.

You're right. Google would have to make multiple adjustments, not just in RAM, to help increase demand of the Pixel 4.

I have the 3XL, not sure that should make a difference but I haven't had any issues with the music player cutting out. I had the initial problem the first week where running certain camera features would force close music apps but that was related to adaptive battery and fixed itself right away after disabling it temporarily.
