GSIII Screen Question

I think I'll go bash the EVO 4G LTE in their forum for a while. They seem to love coming over here to do it to us.

"I don't need to actually spend any time with the S3 to tell you that you're wrong!"

:D

You guys are the ones that keep mentioning the EVO over here, and half of what gets said is inaccurate at best or just plain wrong.
I'm not bashing, just making a personal observation. And I made it clear that whether you prefer one display over the other is a matter of personal opinion. Nothing wrong with cross-talk between the forums, in fact it's probably good thing for all of us to get accurate information out for those that are cross-shopping the two phones.

lol. You are so right. What is it.. they jealous or something. Absolute truth here looking at my s3 screen now, and ain't seeing no blue tint. If i turn it to the side then YES you do begin to see some blue. But i don't know about other people but i usually look at my screen head on. Screen looks gorgeous and no haters ain't gonna make me think different.

I had the EVO LTE and it had too many problems for me. The multi tasking on it is terrible. If you try to switch back and forth between 3 apps it will have to reload the app data. I never notice that with the 2GB of ram on the S3. Also, i was habing issues with my 3G dropping out frequently on the EVO and I haven't seen that on the S3. Personally I tend to prefer the S3 screen over the EVO. It just looks better to me.

Lol, s3 and its predessors have the worse data connectivity issues I have ever seen, I have yet to see a single connectivity issue with my EVO LTE. Oh and this was just with one day of playing around with my friends s3 which does the same thing my old s2 would do. Samsung sucks when it cones to radios.

Hmm maybe because the post literally is a EVO Samsung comparison question. It's pretty funny because I see more ppl hating on the EVO on their forums than the other way around. Exact contradiction to what uve just said. Nice try there bud

Very true I seen 20x the people switching from evo to the gs3 than switching from the gs3 to evo.

And yes I do see something wrong when evo users spend more time here than there. I'm willing to bet right now one of these guys are on the evo forum right now pm ing their evo buddy's that the bad gs3 forum is talking bad about their evos.
Really go away.

Does anyone complaining about the blueish screen on the gs3 even own one? Or is it just that mine isn't like that? Unless I'm looking at my screen from a very hard side angle, there is no blue. My whites are actually very, very warm. Too warm actually.

I own a SGSlll and I don't have a blueish screen, not even when turned to the side. . Oh and my radios work just fine, I have absolutely no connectivity problems. Maybe I just got lucky with a great phone!! :D

Hello,

Like many others I am on the fence between the GSIII and EVO LTE.

Biggest drawback for EVO - non-removable battery

Biggest drawback for GSIII - Screen

I did a head to head screen comparison in the store and on the GSIII there was a pretty strong blue tint. I had the screen brightness at 100%. I tested by bringing up websites with a white background. The whites definitely looked sky blue.
I have also read that in direct sunlight the screen was very difficult to see.

Any firsthand experience on either of these issues?

Thanks

Like many making this same decision, it is very possible I am over-thinking it!

Quoting OP with emphasis for those that didn't read it and think that EVO users are not qualified to comment. Who better to comment on specific EVO questions than someone who has lived with one since pre-orders shipped on May 24?

Yep, you're completely right. It has nothing to do with me going to latest posts on the AC Forums app and seeing half the EVO mentions in the S3 forum.

Most of the initial EVO to S3 switchers are fence-sitters that planned to do it from the beginning. Hell, if I was in my return window, I probably would have done so myself just to check it out. Once the S3 appeared in stores and in a couple of friends' hands though, I realized it wasn't for me. I'm no fanboy; I just know what I like and what works for me.

Spending more time here than there? My stats just don't bear that out. 218 posts as of this posting: 29 in LG Optimus S, 3 in Android Contests, 29 here, and 157 in EVO 4G LTE.

I'll continue to post where I see fit. If the thread specifically mentions the EVO, and I have something to say about what's been posted, I will post my opinion. I invite everyone else to do the same.

My GS3 battery is just as good as my buddies Maxx. But from the threads the EVO LTE battery pretty much sucks, who would want a phone with a fixed battery that sucks? Besides, I have had nunerous HTC phones and usually after 12 months their batteries start getting short on charge performance and I ended up replacing them. That is why I passed on the EVO LTE.

I am very pleased with battery performance on my GS3.

Not sure where your Evo battery stats are coming from. Easily the best phone life i've had since my blackberry curve.

I don't have a problem with other device users commenting in this forum and expressing a preference for their own particular choice of device. I personally don't go or comment in other device forums because I find that pointless. However, as has been said, its everyone's right to post where they want. It's when some users just patrol forums and look to bash any phone that is not theirs with untruths and subjective arguments that annoy most users. Comments like " The S3's screen is rubbish!! or the S3's design is plastic crap!!". I do not like when people can only see their side and say things like " the iphone/HOX screen is miles better than the s3 screen and that's a fact!" or " the s3's screen has a horrible blue tint and that's a fact!! Millions of people obviously think differently as evidenced by sales.

I had the EVO LTE, by returned it for the GS3. As far as the screens go, the EVO def had a Brighter display, but I prefer the Super Amoled. I wish it was a little brighter, but I still prefer it. I like the Gs3 overall over the EVO LTE. The GS3 has a much better radio than samsungs of the past, and the 2 Gig of ram paired with the software make for a great device.

Nope, don't own an S3, don't need to own one to make an observation.
Hold the two side by side. 100% brightness on both for an even comparison. Load up something that has a predominantly white background (Flipboard, web pages, whatever). There's no denying that the S3 displays a decidedly blue tint, and I'm not the only one that has made that observation. Whether or not you think it looks better is a matter of opinion.

Not that I can see how this would matter, but it seems like the people who claim to have seen a blueish white screen all have been using either a demo phone at a store or a press phone for reviews. As you can see by many of the owners in this thread, no one has a phone with any sort of blueish hue. I never claimed one screen was better than the other either. Coming from an EVO 3D, my S3's whites at all brightness levels are much warmer than the HTC. This was something I noticed right off the bat, especially when using the same apps.

I agree, I have yet to notice any issue with my radios vs my EVO's. I do have friends with older Galaxy phones who do have pretty crappy radios, but that's not the case with the S3

I have went through 3 HTC EVO's 4g lte, it was all manufacture errors and defects. I finally had enought and went to the S3 and so far its great, only draw back that i see so far, is my battery it drains a little faster than the EVO. The internet has greater speeds on the s3 aswell.. Hope it helps, id go with the S3:cool:

I got the S3 yesterday. I was having a hard time deciding between the Evo 4g LTE and the S3. The screens seemed about equal to me. What drove me to the S3 was the 2gb RAM.

Why do people keep saying there is a blue tint to the screen? There wasn't one on the demo unit nor is there one on my phone.

Are people being like Apple zealots and trashing something they never used ?

I don't know why people are so fixated on the battery.
"What if my phone locks up and I need to pull the battery to reboot?" Holding power button down for 10 seconds forces a hard reboot. If you're worried about battery life, carry a portable charger. Not much more bulk than carrying a spare battery and you can get more than one charge out of it, depending on the model.

The other EVO issues mentioned are software related and are easily fixed. You can't fix the Samsung craptastic radios or bluish screen with its over saturated cartoony colors.

I'm still not convinced about the s3 radio issues. All of them are on board the cpu and the snapdragon (Qualcomm) is used in many other devices so I just can't figure how Samsung is involved in that issue unless its software or a physIcal desIgn problem (and thIs Is def possible). I may not know what good radios are like but I'm fine with my S3's up to now.

To accommodate display preferences, find software to adjust all your levels. Displays are meant to be adjustable which is why you don't shop for a t.v. based on what looks good on the best buy wall that day.

Can you suggest such app's?

Well, I've got an S3, I've never had an Apple product (other than a IIe a few decades ago), and my screen is slightly tinted blue. It doesn't bother me, and it's not very dramatic, but yeah, it is slightly blue.

I haven't looked, but being a chronic customizer it's only a matter of time.
I use Lux for auto brightness and it has a night mode which shifts the color palette.

I have no doubt that the display attributes are addressable via software so most likely something is out there. I'm not surprised a phone manufacture would choose a color range based on things other than photo realism, especially given the conditions a phone display is used in.
