i would wipe data, clear cache partition and dalvik, then format /system. then flash the rom, then flash gapps, then reboot (the rom comes with a good kernel, i would try it out before flashing franco's kernel personally, but if you really want franco's you can flash it after you flash gapps, then reboot).. either way, when it boots up, leave it alone for a few minutes before you sign in to google so the kernel can settle in without being bombarded with tasks.
Yesterday I-
- Did a full wipe, flashed 1.6, flashed Gapps
- Installed all of my apps from the Play store vs using Titanium Backup, installed all updates
- Restored app data for the apps that have pertinent data
- Flashed on the Changes clock to white, adds fast soft keys and gives notification icons a little color (sms, gmail and email)mod for Jelly Belly 1.6 from the rootzwiki thread on jelly belly.
Everything is running well, but I am looking to do 1.7 (although I see talk of 1.8 already in the rootzwiki thread also). So my questions are (I just started fooling around with ROMS last week and have become addicted)
1. Does the little mod I flashed on in my last step above mean that I can't do a dirty flash? If I can do a dirty flash, do I need to do anything with the GApps file as I have fully updated everything from the Play store?
2. If I have to do a full wipe, I believe that I should be able to restore all of the apps/data from Titanium Backup, now that I have created a fresh backup off of the apps which I installed clean from the play store?
Thanks. Do you think I am OK with a dirty flash (1.7 and then GAPPS as of 7/1) even though I applied the small mod?
Most will recommend against it, and for good reason - if you have any issues, you can't expect any support or fixes to problems. It's best to just do a full, clean wipe if you want to make sure all your bases are covered.
Just my $0.02
That's good enough for me. Full wipe it is.
Just wipe cache and dalvik

The mod won't do a thing, it'll be replaced. Dirty flash is fine for this rom.

Had a post overlap. Just finished doing a backup, and will give it a try with the dirty flash
What's going on guys? I found this site through an add on crackberry but the G1 is one of the phones in my arsenal so I thought I'd have a look see at the community. I work for T-Mobile too.
So, when you get a text message, isn't the notification for it in the pull down menu supposed to have a button to immediately text back? The one time (so far) I've gotten a text since running JB, it didn't have that, and I had to click the notification and go into the app to answer back, as in previous versions of Android.
Anyway, JB is nice, I like a lot of the little "effects", and whatnot, that they seem to have added. I just hope Apex Launcher updates soon to work with it, as I became a big fan of that launcher, and it feels weird being back on the more limited stock launcher. Also not too crazy about the new persistent search bar, because it stands out too much against my wallpaper; at least with the old ICS search bar, it was just a white border and nothing else, but I'm not too crazy about this big grey very slightly transparent bar at the top of my screen.
are the new notifications working? i remember reading somewhere that they werent, but it could have been a port/version issue
wah, i still cant get GPS lock... this is bothering me. any good ways to test that my GPS isnt fried? im thinking of wiping everything and going back to AOKP b37 (my last running build) to see if GPS works then, but hoping theres an easier way to check.
dm, i know you said it isnt the ROM, any other ideas what it could be?
Considering every rom (ICS, JB, whatever), a lot of phones, and many GPS devices are having this issue, wiping your phone and going to something else wouldn't help you. Just stay patient and wait; perhaps it's your area.
Mine's been fine the past two nights but a bit whacky during the day. Perhaps it's the heat? Perhaps the electricity in the air? Who knows.
