haha im on the same boat...i've gone through 3 ROMS and a bunch of themes and i've only been rooted for about 24 hours but i think i found a combination i could keep for at least one day

Can I run Stupidfast with the stock rom and which rooting method would allow me to do so? Thanks and awesome write-up!

Should work. Rooting is what lets you flash. Flashing method is the question. Just pop it in via green cwm and you should be good. Stock roms won't take a theme unless you use a deodexed one though.

Thanks for the reply. If rooted, what would I have to do to be able to move my apps to my sd card instead of having them take up space on my memory card or is there even a way? And does one click root give me the privilege of loading superfast to my phone, and if so, what would be the procedure? Thanks again for all your wonderful help.

Not to duck the question here, but it seems that you really need to do some more reading on android in general. App to SD is a feature of android 2.2. Whatever method you use to flash will allow you to flash stupid fast once you're rooted. Try Rom manager from the app market.

Thanks again. I wasn't sure if the new leaked 2.2 Froyo ROM was able to. I knew it was a 2.2 thing. Just didn't know if developers were able to incorporate that into the new ROM's somehow. Thanks again for the help. So what's the difference in procedures to load a kernel versus loading a rom? Do you use something like ROM manager for kernels or what? Thanks again.

Without a doubt, this is the most complete guide ever, thanks for a great job and thanks for sharing!!!!!!!

Not a whole lot of difference in the loading proceedure. Flash via CWM, odin, or Rom Manager. Try to match your roms and kernels appropriately to avoid trouble.

That's why I was asking about stupid fast with the stock rom. If it'd be a good match? How would I find out what makes a good pair like you're talking about? Thanks again. I'm feeling so close to starting. So what's the advantage of using cwm recovery + root over using the one click root and rom manager if they both can accomplish the same thing? Once again... Thank you for all your help. One more thing... Backing everything up... I've heard about titanium and nandroid. Which is best and which is easier? both performed prior to loading something new on the phone?

Stupid fast is no longer under development. Look into another one. Try one of Adrynalyne's test kernels, or go ahead and hop on DL30. For rom you can just stay stock for now. Like I said, it's an experiment. There is no perfect choice, and every phone responds differently believe it or not. The whole rooting thing is very organic in nature.

You'll want CWM because it will allow you to flash anything you've loaded to your SD card pretty much. Rom manager is neat, but very limited since you have to get your phone to boot to use it. When you screw up CWM is your friend.

For backing up I use nandroid and Titanium, I've had my nandroid back ups go bad on me, and had to restore all of my apps and data with titanium. I'm really cautious.

Thanks for the great writeup. Have been thinking about loading different rom/kernal but seemed like there was not a clear easy guide. Have done lots of reading but would find conflicting info. Yours seems to be the clearest and most easy to follow I have seen.

I wrote it thinking that the guides were great step by step instructions, but I was missing a lot of "What's this do?" and "What does this let me do?" So I wanted to compile that stuff. Thanks for the good words, and happy flashing.

Sheepdog - is DL30 the leaked 2.2 update? I see you're running it. How's it been so far. I asked it before, and I think you answered it, but just because it's a quote 2.2 rom, doesn't mean it's true (and we still can't move apps to our sd cards), right? Thanks for the help again.

Dl30 is honest to goodness 2.2 and I'm loving it. That said be ready for some trouble. Flash to dl09 first to get everything lined up right.

yea really awesome job!!!thanks a lot sheepdogg and to everyone mentioned above (droidxcon, gunnermike, adrynalyne)for your guys hard work in this!i am as noob as it gets,im mean sippin'on similac noob.i got a little anxious from reading of all the possibilities of rooting ,soo i dove right in.....back first...error message after error message( ex;file could not be found, signature verification blah blah blah, disk write protected,pc did not recognize device)but i continued to search the forums for some sort of answer but never found just one.thanks gunnermike for lagfix disable walkthrough, droidx for simplifying odin and cwm recovery and sheepdogg for the effort you put into this thread (shoot this took me close to two hours..lol)to help us noobs get off the similac and eat some real food...and some apples too!thanks to everyone in the AC!!!

Thanks!

Wow, I felt so overwhelmed in the beginning. I was wondering what the heck is Clockwork mod? Whats the difference between a ROM and a Kernel? All my questions answered in one place. All my fears alleviated.

Thanks to the information from this thread and in AC in general, I rooted/flashed my OG Droid as practice and now my Fascinate is running Froyo like a dream.

Thanks!

Best Root Option

What is the best and easiest root for the fascinate. I only wanna root it for the wireless tether option and that is it. What would you recommend

I was going to say I recommend you post this question in one of the two sticky threads that specifically mention root in the title instead of starting a whole new thread to ask a question in a topic where threads already exist. But fortunately the Moderators have been super busy lately cleaning up the Fascinate forums of these types of issues. Thank you Moderators. DroidXcon's ODIN all-in-one packages are the easiest way to root in order to get the wireless tether option. You can only get the wireless tether option with the EB16 kernel and you can't use that kernel unless you have a compatible modem and ROM. I think the only compatible ROMs are superclean or one of the other custom EB01 ROMs. I would also recommend some reading:

EDIT - Oops second link didn't take. Just go to Android Forums, scroll all the way down below all the phones to Other Forums and go Android Central Meta=>Android Central Forum FAQ's=>General Forum Usage.
