Has anyone gotten the sideloading update yet?

Several people have gotten the update, myself included. AT&T's customer support may be unaware (any traditionally non technical users might not understand what you're asking for), but to call it a hoax is a little ridiculous. Do a check for updates over wifi, then power cycle the phone, regardless of if it downloads an update or not. I'm not saying that will do it, but that's what I did. After maybe 15 minutes the option just showed up.

sorry to sound silly here but how do you get this.. I see everyone talking about the unknown source. but anyone explain me how you get this? I am rooted.

I think this update is a total hoax. I've called AT&T many times and they have no clue what im talking about.

Yeah, all the people that said they got it (including me) are lying. If you're asking AT&T about the "sideloading" update, that's why they don't know what you're talking about. It's called "enabling unknown sources'. If you would just read through the threads (there are multiple ones on this subject) you would see a few posts that people in contact with AT&T were told that there's a problem with the system that's pushing the update out.

For anyone that hasn't received it, and is too impatient, just use the Sideload Wonder Machine.

I have heard of the sideloading update myth....but it has been so long that I dont really care anymore...I mean I kinda ran out of things to install on my phone haha

That's it. I am tired of waiting for this update. It's been a week and a half. I am going to just root my phone and be done with it. ATT forced me to do it by making me wait this long.

I got a custom ROM installed so I'm able to sideload anything I want on my Inspire 4G.

I have installed the Inspire Ace v2. 1.0. 1st Rom on 2.2. 3rd gingerbread.

Yeah I'm tired of waiting too and I would like to root my phone but it is much more complicated than when I did it on the iphone. on the iphone I could just click one button and it would do it for me. When I went to go find out about rooting there are all of these confusing things like s-off, flashing a rom, creating a gold card. I would definitely root my phone if it was easier.

I attempted AT&T web chat. guy more or less called me a liar even though i linked him to the news update on ATT site =/

edit: for those who cared. the copy/paste of the chat.

What do you mean by power cycled? Did you turn them completely off or press the restart button after you held down the power button on top of the phone?

As soon as I got the text message stating that it was sent to all 4 phones, I powered the phones off for about 1 minute, then powered them back on, and it was there. When I tried to check without powering off, it wasnt there.

I thought it was a silent update so why did you get a text message?

I have a representive from the presidents office of att that has been helping me with the multitude of problems i've been dealing with concerning their costumer care and tech support. they have compleatly messed up all 3 of my accounts for the past 3 months with overbilling, lying, poor communication between their employies, and disrespect. they have called me everyday to update me on the status of the ota push, so I guess when they sent the push to my phones, they sent the message with it, dont know how the process is supposed to go.
