Help - Want to revert back to 2.1 and/or de-brick your X

Im looking at RSD Lite v4.7 right now. File Name C:\VRZ_MB810_1.13.6.2_1FF_01.sbf status: Connected But the start stays greyed.

Going back through the thread, it seemed like the people that had the problems with the start button greyed out fixed it my replacing the pst_flash.ini file in the RSDLite folder.

yeah, i did that too. Can I do this on XP? I brought my laptop today which is xp.

Hi, this might be a dumb question but do I have to be able to connect to my computer in PC Mode to go through this process for getting back to Android 2.1?

For some reason, my computer (running Windows XP 32-bit) only recognizes my device when I connect it in USB Mass Storage Mode. I called Motorola and they walked me through the Driver installation twice, but the computer still wouldn't recognize my Droid X when I tried to connect in PC Mode. If I can do this in USB Mass Storage Mode though, then I'll go ahead and try it. Otherwise, guess I need to try on a different computer.

Thank you in advance!

I really cant say for sure if it needs to be. Some others in this thread claim to have better luck with RSD Lite and flashing their phone when they put it in PC Mode, but frankly you shouldn't have to. At least, from my IT perspective. What happens if you bork your phone and can't boot into the Android OS? Is the phone permanently bricked? I say no, but then again the only way to find out for sure is to try. I will definitely be flashing my phone, again, for like the 10th time sometime this week or next week in preparation for official Froyo release, so I will be sure to see what happens then. This may not be early enough for you, and if thats the case all I can say is try it but be safe.

Thanks so much for the help. I know absolutely nothing about techie stuff, so I was nervous trying this but your instructions worked perfect.

Just a heads-up to anyone who gets through everything but has problems re-booting or is able to re-boot but can't activate the phone: if you take it to a Verizon store and tell them you did a factory reset because you were thinking about selling the phone (or any other valid reason, because telling them you downloaded the leaked 2.2 will void your warranty), they'll either fix the phone for you or send you another X if they can't.

I backed up all of my apps and data to my phone's SD card with My Backup Pro ($5). I followed the instructions here for going back to Android 2.1, got stuck in the boot-loop so pulled the battery and did a factory reset. For some reason after the reset, when my phone booted up and came to the "Welcome to Droid X, touch the android to begin" screen, I'd go through the activation process, but then my phone would take me back to that "Welcome to Droid X, touch the android to begin" screen.

Went to the Verizon store here to see if they could get it worked out. They asked why I did a factory re-set and I said that I was thinking about selling my X so I could get a Droid 2 and wanted to wipe out my personal stuff. They said if they couldn't fix the problem then they'd order me another Droid X. After about an hour of messing with my phone, they found that a couple of settings in it had somehow changed and were keeping my phone from connecting to the network. They fixed it, I re-downloaded My Backup Pro from the market (it recognized I'd already paid for that app, so it didn't charge me again) and restored all of my Data and Apps, now everything's right as rain.

ok i got it to work and everything is perfect thanks for all the post guys it helped alot

Unless you guys object, I changed the title of this thread, because it also helped me unbrick my X (couldn't boot past the Moto logo).

DaRkL3AD3R - I'm not sure where the "thanks!" button is, I clicked the 'add to ... reputation' button and put thanks.
Either way, your post was most helpful!
There were a couple parts where I was kinda unsure, but still got through it with common sense. Specifically, the part when/if your phone goes into bootloop, which mine did, you said to unplug and pull battery, then put in battery and start up holding home key...yadda yadda. I wasn't sure about
A) how long to keep out battery, cuz when people say to pull the battery out to keep out for 30-45 seconds. I just assumed to put right back in and not wait any time since you did not say to wait.
B) whether or not to plug the phone back in to usb/pc. I didn't because you didn't say to. however, back in RSD on my pc it was still saying to manually reboot my phone, which is when I originally noticed the bootloop, when I went to close the RSD program, it was scolding me cause it had not finished it's process and was still waiting for me to connect a rebooted phone, warning me of the device not working properly if I closed it now without finish. I called it a dirty name and closed it anyways, my phone was already happily updated to the new 2.3.15 OTA already anyways.

*Takes gasping breath*

Sorry for the long windedness, but I am just very happy everything came out and thankful for your post which made the whole process possible.
Have a great humpday.

Could you please help me? I have the same problem (can't boot past the moto logo) and the sbf flash failed. I tried uninstalling the drivers that came with the phone and installing the one's that came in the zip dark provided and now my pc won't even recognize my phone.

EDIT: Restarted my computer and got the phone to recognize. Every time I try to sbf flash through RSDLite it gets all the way to "waiting for re-enamulation" or something like that, waits a few mins, then says "failed to flash" and this happens every time. I'm getting very frustrated and any help would be greatly appreciated

don't mix it up with the sbf_flash 12kb file.

What's the point of having this file in the zip then? Does it need to go somewhere? I've read through your post a few times and it does not say what exactly to do with it. Is this the reason my flash keeps failing?

EDIT: I guess this does not work with windows xp? I tried it on my roomates laptop w/ vista and it worked perfect first try.
