Help with a Samsung Galaxy Centura

When I am disconnected Bluetooth off and headphones off the speaker is not working. Sidenote. About 2 days ago when I was using my Jambox Bluetooth speaker I turned it off the speaker worked for about a minute after. Also I did do a factory reset already

yes you can silence a text. just go to system settings and where it says default notification click on that and at top of page it says silent click on that and hit ok bottom right screen. and it will silence all incoming text notifications and voicemail notifications.

I am having quite the issue with my Samsung Galaxy Centure phone. My volume button got jammed when I simply pushed the button down normally and does not work. My phone randomly turns off, and I turned it on, a screen appeared and I took the battery out to ignore it, then restarted the phone, and the same screen popped up. It asked me for safe mode and without every choosing a choice, it chose safe mode and now my phone is on safe mode, with no internet connection at all, I need to have Wi-Fi to use my phone now. I need my phone for many reasons and right now, it's unusable and I need someone's help. What can I do?

Welcome to Android Central! It sounds like the phone may be failing. You could try removing the external SD card (if present), because a corrupt card can cause various glitches. You could also try a new battery. But my guess is that you'll end up having to get a new phone.

I just bought a samsung galaxy centura today, and it has been on the charger for two hours so far. There is no charging light, and I can't turn it on. Does it need to charge all the way to be able to turn on? Shouldn't I be able to see some kind of charging light come on when it is hooked up? I have tried three different cables on it, and no lights have showed up.

Welcome to Android Central! Did you buy it brand new from a wireless provider, or used from eBay or some other reseller? If used, I would suspect some kind of hardware failure, which is why it was being sold.

Maybe the battery is faulty. Take it out, lay it flat on a table, and try to spin it. If it spins freely, it's bulging in the middle, which indicates battery failure. But even if it doesn't spin, it's worth trying a new battery.

You mention you have 3 different cables--do you also have 3 different charging blocks? If you're using the same charging block, that might be faulty--try a different one.

If none of that works, return it from where you bought it and ask for a refund or exchange. Do it sooner rather than later!

Use google "hangouts" instead of the stock messaging app. solved all my problems with group texts and picture message downloads. If your Samsung galaxy Centura was like mine it had the old talk app instead. Just search for "hangouts' in the google play store. it'll say "installed", click it, and it'll give you the option to "open' or "update". Click to update and open it, so it's not "talk' anymre but hangouts". Then it'll be in you list of apps as hangouts. :) Open google Hangouts and in the SMS settings check the box to allow it to receive SMS message too, so it'll do the message retrieval rather than the stock messaging app

Just recently, I updated my Youtube app and then it quit working. I figured it was the update, so I uninstalled it and then re-installed it, but didn't update it. It works now. Then the same thing happened with the TextMe app. After I updated it today, it wouldn't even open. I'm thinking about deleting it and re-installing it too. But why would this be happening?

Actually its not a dud. Mine does that all the time. I call it a silent charge. If you plug it in when its red the phone would beep when the battery gets lower on power right? Well I plug mine in and I turn off the screen. If I don't here that beep and the other sound it makes when being plugged in or unplugged then its charging its just not making any sound. I walk away for like 30 mins and its half way charged. No they will proberly never fix this issue at this point. So if you can back up all your stuff and just set it back to factory it should help a little. If not then just buy a newer phone. My problem is the camera. It wont connect and it takes me almost 3 days to get it to work again.

Welcome to Android Central! Can you give us more details? When is it freezing? Does it seem to be associated with any particular app?

Try booting into Recovery Mode and wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data:

  1. Turn off the device
  2. Remove the battery about 10 second and reinsert.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously until the screen turns on and the Samsung logo blinks twice.
  4. Then release the Power button, but keep the Volume Up button pressed until you see the Android system recovery screen.
  5. Select wipe cache partition using the Volume Down button to highlight.
  6. Press the Home button to execute.
  7. When done, select reboot system now, and press the Home button.

If that doesn't work, try unmounting the SD card (in Settings>Storage), remove it, and reboot. A corrupt card can cause freezes.

It might also be some app you installed that is causing problems. Try booting into Safe Mode, which temporarily disables all 3rd party apps. If the problem goes away, then you know something you installed is the problem, and you may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem goes away. If the problem persists in Safe Mode, then there's probably something wrong with the firmware or hardware, which is much harder to fix. To get into Safe Mode, you typically press and hold Power until you get the Power menu. Then press and hold Power Off until you get a Safe Mode option. Tap OK, and the phone will reboot in Safe Mode.

I just received my refurbished Galaxy Centura phone that i purchased from Straight Talk. I can't get it to do anything. I put it on the charger approximately 10:am this morning and took it off the charger around 5:00pm and i can't get it to turn on at all..no kind of lights to tell me if it charged...nothing. What can i do or do i just have a bad phone?

Thank you,
Linda Wilson

Welcome to Android Central! Are you able to try a new battery? Try removing the battery, placing it flat on a table, and trying to spin it--if it spins freely, it's bulging in the middle, which is a sure sign of a failed battery.

How long did you try holding the Power button? Sometimes you have to hold it down for 10 seconds or so.

But it sounds like you'll probably have to contact Straight Talk and ask for a replacement.

I haven't had the galaxy centura but for about 3 weeks and when I started the phone would freeze constantly. i did what i usually do and i took the battery out, put it back in, and turned the phone on. then the touch stopped working... sometimes it does but not much more than to unlock the phone then the phone freezes. I really could use some help

Welcome to Android Central! If the phone is new, you may want to bring it back to the store and see if you can get exchange it.

Otherwise, see what happens if you unmount your SD card (in Settings>Storage), remove it, and reboot. If the card is corrupt, it could cause various problems.

Another thing to try is to boot into Safe Mode, which prevents all 3rd party apps from starting up. If the problems stop, then something you installed is causing the instability. I can't find the exact method of getting into Safe Mode for the Centura, but the general steps on Samsung devices is to power off, then power on again, and when you see the Samsung logo, press and hold the Volume Down button until you see Safe Mode appear in a corner of the screen. If that doesn't work, you may have to press the Home or Menu button instead of the Volume Down button.
