Hotspot Unlimited Data Loophole Question

Whomever got this plan changes, enjoy while you can and take full advantage of it! Knowing Big Red the way they are, I smell an audit coming down the road?

Ok, update. I called back and actually went to add the unlimited hotspot. She assured me it was only unlimited for the hotspot, and I'd retain my 4GB data package.

Well, low and behold when she actually went to add the feature, she told me to hang on. She comes back and says "well I'll be damned, it actually changed your plan to unlimited!" I had her check with the supervisor, and note the account. I am now grandfathered into an unlimited data plan.

Now, I have no doubt that Vzw will actually come around and take back the unlimited plan, or at least stop this from continued abuse. But I can verify that as of right now, this still works.

Dont see how they can revert you if you took a plan they offered you and did not cancel your hotspot feature. Now if you canceled the hotspot i can see them bumping it back down.

Exactly. I'm leaving my hotspot for awhile till this all calms down. I signed up today and got the unlimited and didn't get "the call" yet... knock on wood. I'm hoping if you slid through before today, they'll let us keep it. Here's to hoping.

Because its a violation of the contract you signed. The date of your contract does not entitle you to unlimited data if you signed up after they switched to tiered. Your contract with Verizon also allows them to change your contract at any time. Its as simple as that.

It won't matter. As soon as you remove Hotspot, you will be bumped back to your original plan.

I have a suspicion that this will be the case. They will only keep unlimited data unless you keep the MHS.

That don't matter. If you call up and they offer you that service then its yours until you change it. Now if you have it and you drop your mobile hot spot then they can drop you back down since it was a bundle deal even tho they say its not and its clearly separate when you turn off your mobile hot spot. Needless to say this could be a pretty big class action law suit waiting to happen if not handled right on their part.

However. For those who got the plan and then canceled your mobile hotspot this is a gray area. You did it to defraud them however when you canceled your hotspot you were given the option to cancel the unlimited data or keep it. I mean clearly you did it to defraud them but they did give you the option to keep it so this is a pretty gray area. I could see if it was cancel the mobile hotspot why you open another account management window and do something like that that would of been bypassing a attempt to remove the feature or did some hacking and hacked their database and added it.

I mean no crimes were committed. Actions may be frowned and this may be morally wrong but legally no one did anything wrong. Like i said its a huge gray area.

Personally i would not want to be in Verizon's legal dep. right now.

bait and switch n. a dishonest sales practice in which a business advertises a bargain price for an item in order to draw customers into the store and then tells the prospective buyer that the advertised item is of poor quality or no longer available and attempts to switch the customer to a more expensive product. So lets see. We call up Verizon and they offer us unlimited for $60 a month with a hotspot. The next month they say that's not plan and say for $60 a month you get this. Seems pretty close to bait and switch. Advertised on the phone to draw us in and then the next month they pull the old switch.

Bottom line i don't see this ending smooth or well for those who canceled their hotspot as well as for Verizon because they knew about it for so long.

Sorry, but you plainly don't know what is in the contract you signed. Further, Verizon never advertised this unlimited data, and it was, in fact, a glitch in the provisioning system. (users were never able to upgrade to unlimited data from a tiered plan) They are not responsible for honoring that mistake. Verizon is allowed to make changes to your contract at any time, especially when it comes to returning you to a current plan.

If you change your device or receive a Service promotion, you may be required to change your Plan to one that we are currently offering at that time.

We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we'll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service. If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you're accepting the change.

Real and look just a mere few hours and look at the post . Vzw has caught on and that option is by by
That sounds like the biggest BS of all time. LOL

Still have mine on two lines. If it happens it happens I just hope I revert to my 4gb for 2gb promo back that I signed up for.

They'll revert you to whatever plan you were on before the change. Or they may add on the tethering. (but they'll probably call and ask first)

I don't understand one thing, you always seem to be so negative in the face of a forum member. There have been people who removed the hotspot a month after they signed up for it and they still have unlimited. I don't know what will happen, but so far they have had unlimited. May be it will happen and may be it won't. Why sound so sure of yourself when you have nothing to back it up with.

Why not just be realistic for once. Do you have any proof of it?

This has been happening since last july and I have had the plan for 3 months now and I still have the hotspot feature because I actually use it.

Just tried this yesterday and it worked for me.

The trick is NOT to call the 611 customer service line, according to two reps that I've spoken to, they do not have the authority to add this feature. You have to call the Orderings and Activations line 1-877-807-4646 then ask to add feature code #76153. Did this on my first try and it worked. Saw the changes posted on my account 5 minutes later.

Yes we have proof of it. Since gizmodo decided they hated Verizon customers and posted about it, Verizon's auditing department has been systematically going through accounts and 'fixing' them. The consumerist posted numerous accounts of this happening. Just because it hasn't happened to some people yet, doesn't mean it wont. I'm sorry if you don't like the truth, but it is what it is and verizon has caught on.

Just wait. See if you still have it in a week
